Amazing: Palin’s book number one on both Amazon and Barnes & Noble bestseller list; Unprecedented !
Hotair ^ | 10/01/2009 | Allahpundit

Posted on 10/01/2009 6:51:48 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Forty-eight days before the release and she’s already topped Dan Brown’s latest conspiracy-theory casserole at both top retailers. To put that in perspective, note that the book doesn’t even have a cover yet. So much for the Page Six hit piece about demand for her being slack.

No way to tell yet, obviously, whether the monster launch will have legs or whether it’ll deflate a bit next week after Palinistas are all done ordering their advance copies. But if it goes on to become a mega-seller, it’s a game-changer insofar as it’ll establish her unquestionably as the most prominent Republican in America, which leaves Huck and Mitt in an awkward spot before the primaries and presents the media with an interesting choice. Do they try to spin the sales as unrepresentative of her support among Republicans given that plenty of liberals are bound to buy the book for campaign dish and insight into the Palin “trainwreck”? Or do they follow lefty conventional wisdom that Palin would be the easiest person to beat in 2012 and talk up her appeal to Republicans to try to nudge her into a presidential run? (Righty conventional wisdom, of course, is that she’s the candidate the left most fears, but given their expectation of future Couric-type disasters during a campaign, I’m skeptical that that’s true.) Only one thing’s certain: If she hasn’t already been signed to write a second book, she will be soon. “Common Sense Conservatism” by Sarah Palin, perchance?

Update: Prognosis for mega-sales: Good ( see here : http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0909/27773.html)

HarperCollins will print 1.5 million copies for the book’s first run, the same number that was printed for late Sen. Ted Kennedy’s memoir “True Compass.”

Kennedy’s book, published earlier this month, currently stands at number six on the Amazon list.

A publishing industry source told POLITICO that they “cannot remember a non-fiction book taking off like this in the pre-order market. It became number one only a couple of hours after nothing more than a date announcement. It is truly unprecedented.”

Much of the 400-page book is based on journals Palin kept during her vice-presidential run.

Psalm 112
1 Praise the Lord!
How joyful are those who fear the Lord
and delight in obeying his commands.

2 Their children will be successful everywhere;
an entire generation of godly people will be blessed.

3 They themselves will be wealthy,
and their good deeds will last forever.

4 Light shines in the darkness for the godly.
They are generous, compassionate, and righteous.

5 Good comes to those who lend money generously
and conduct their business fairly.

6 Such people will not be overcome by evil.
Those who are righteous will be long remembered.

7 They do not fear bad news;
they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.

8 They are confident and fearless
and can face their foes triumphantly.

9 They share freely and give generously to those in need.
Their good deeds will be remembered forever.
They will have influence and honor.

10 The wicked will see this and be infuriated.
They will grind their teeth in anger;
they will slink away, their hopes thwarted.

Allegedly 7 million in advance and (I guess) between 20-30% royalties per book. With her name and the massive sales... I guess she could get more than that.

Getting this book published must have been the subject of the “hell yes” reaction she said she got from a family member (Todd?) when they voted on whether she ought to resign. LOL.

I do hope that the book is well written and extremely well thought out. There is no doubt that a lot of people are going to read it. So this is make or break for Governor Palin by her own hand. If this book puts forward her own agenda in a concise, complete, and coherent manner she will be vaulted from conservative superstar to whatever it is that comes after that. Hyperstar?.

On the down side if it comes across as quickly thrown together or badly written the libs will have a field day and put her permanently into the talk-show brand of conservative.

My hope is that it comes across like the Federalist papers. This is what needs to be done, This is why it needs to be done, This is how we're going to do it. If she pulls that off 2010-2012 is going to be a very exciting time.

I just had an idea. If you have a liberal family member who generally buys gifts for you, ask them for a gift card to B&N or Amazon. Of course don’t tell them you are going to buy Palin’s book with it.... until after the fact. :)

You know that the left is going to pick this fine book apart with a fine tooth comb and over report any and all questionable statements. He team needs to be ready with quips about them tearing about Obama’s books. That will be fun to watch.

Golly, gee whillickers but is she READY to be an author?

Doesn’t she need more “seasoning” and “experience”?

I mean after all, she really “bombed” the legendary Couric interview.

I think she needs to write essays, hidden away somewhere out of the public eye, for years before she seeks public publishing again.

-— I think that covers the Palin troll talking points -—

The synopsis from Barnes and Nobles site

Sarah Palin burst onto the political scene at the height of the 2008 presidential campaign and overnight became a national sensation. Adored by the right, bitterly reviled by the left, she is the most polarizing figure to emerge in American politics in decades. Yet for all the dirt digging and gossip that has surrounded her, very little is actually known about who she is, what she believes, and above all, about her plans for the future. In her new book, Sarah Palin tells the story of her Alaskan upbringing, her marriage and family life, her political career, her religious beliefs, and her meteoric rise to national prominence. With her customary blunt common sense, she sets the record straight about the many myths and lies that have been spun around her and lays out her vision for an America that is strong, independent, and free.

400 pages is a lot of text. I'm sure there is room for a teaser about where we are going from here. After all the title is Going Rogue, not Went Rogue.

BTW, Regarding how she came up with the Title of her book, Yesterday, John Fund, writing in the Wall Street Journal , explained the origin of the title:

Ms. Vincent (co-writer) didn’t reveal any details about the book, but did acknowledge it will describe Ms. Palin’s frustration over her treatment by the staffers she inherited from the McCain campaign after her surprise pick as the GOP vice presidential nominee last year. Ms. Palin was booked on grueling interviews with hostile reporters while talk-show hosts such as Glenn Beck couldn’t even get through to her aides. Mr. Beck tells me he was stunned when he picked up the phone one day just before the election to discover Sarah Palin was on the other end of the line. “She explained that she had been blocked from reaching her audience, so she was now ‘going rogue’ and booking her own interviews,” Mr. Beck told me. “I was thrilled she had burst out of the cage they’d built for her and we were finally talking.”

That incident was the only time Ms. Palin declared her independence from her keepers, and it’s fitting that the title of her upcoming book will be “Going Rogue: An American Life.”

My guess is that John McCain and several of his staffers are going to have a lot of explaining to do once this book hits the stands.

Laura Ingraham and someone from Red State were talking about Sarahs book today on her show. Apparently the reason why the McCain staffers did not like her is because she went rogue. For example, the staffers did not believe that what Obama told Joe the Plumber was important at all. Sarah, YES, Sarah had to explain to them why it actually MATTERED. That just shows yet again the McCain staffers were idiots. McCain surrounded himself with morons and unfortunately Sarah was along for the ride. I thought the McCain staffers were such geniuses..but they couldn’t find any significance in Obama wanting REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH. Good God, the McCain campaign was a train wreck
