NYT: For Obama, An Unsuccessful Campaign ["He Could Not Even Muster The Silver Or Bronze"]

For Obama, An Unsuccessful Campaign

By PETER BAKER October 2, 2009

COPENHAGEN — President Obama not only failed to bring home the gold, he could not even muster the silver or bronze.

A dramatic 20-hour mission across the ocean to persuade the International Olympic Committee to give the 2016 Summer Games to Chicago proved such a miscalculation that his adopted hometown finished fourth of four candidate cities.

Rarely has a president put his credibility on the line on the world stage in such a personal way and been slapped down so sharply in real time. While Chicago may have lost to Rio de Janeiro for all sorts of reasons that had nothing to do with Mr. Obama, the fact that he made himself the face of the city’s bid invariably meant it would be taken as a stinging rejection of its favorite son.

The defeat will be used as a political metaphor and raise painful questions. Why did he invest so much time, taxpayer money and, perhaps most important, presidential prestige in a losing effort? How did he misjudge the potential vote so badly that Chicago evidently was not even in the top tier? What does it say about a leader who may be far more popular abroad than his predecessor yet has trouble converting that esteem into tangible benefits for the United States?

The rejection of Mr. Obama’s plea for Chicago came at a time when he could have used a feel-good victory. After racking up legislative and policy successes in the early months of his presidency, he has entered a phase where progress is more difficult. He has run into turbulence trying to pass health care, climate change and financial regulation legislation, and his poll ratings have slipped notably since spring.

saying “the gloves are off” and they would “take no prisoners.”

Stupid words from Stupid People.

Those phrases where translated in every Euron Language and the reaction to them was what would be expected.

Funny how obambi said America was arrogant then launches into a tirade of HomieFromTheHood Speak.

from the original article: ““Nearly one year ago, on a clear November night, people from every corner of the world gathered in the city of Chicago or in front of their televisions to watch the results of the U.S. presidential election,” Mr. Obama told the committee. “Their interest wasn’t about me as an individual. Rather, it was rooted in the belief that America’s experiment in democracy still speaks to a set of universal aspirations and ideals.””

America, c’est moi.

RE: Hottie in bikini on guy’s shoulders flashing Victory hand-sign in
lower photo:

After I heard all the rationalizations, even on ESPN Radio’s
“Mike and Mike Show” explaining how Chicago was a shoe-in for the
2016 Summer Olympics...
I have to admit I said that was BRAVO SIERRA.

Because I, dare I admit it, was thinking pragmatically.
That is to say, like Bill Clinton.

Summer 2016 in Chicago, IL: oppressive, high-humidity temps by Lake Michigan,
pasty Chicago females still looking for a tan, not to mention the
danger of getting whacked by some of Obama’s ACORN personnel if
you took the wrong off-ramp.

VERSUS

Taking a break from the 2016 Olympic contests to stroll the beaches of
Rio during their moderate season (basically winter) and taking in
the sights (there’s a reason there was a movie titled
“Blame It On Rio”!).

Yeah, there’s crime in Rio. But not patronizing Obama’s Gangsta-ACORN
Nation at the 2016 Olympics...PRICELESS.

Indeed

—Check out 0’s ego trip—

“At a rally in Daley Plaza, Obama drummed up enthusiasm for the bid. He said: ‘In 2016, I’ll be wrapping up my second term as president, so I can’t think of a better way than to be marching into Washington Park alongside Mayor Daley, alongside Rahm Emanuel, alongside Dick Durbin, alongside Valerie Jarrett as President of the United States, and announcing to the world, ‘Let the games begin!’”

Umm, zero - you’re not going to be announcing anything during the 2016 Olympics.

This news really brightened up a crappy day for me.

has any other president done this? I tried to google to see if any previous presidents have made themselves the pitch guy for a cities bid for the Olympics.

Nope, and the results are why it had never been done previously. This arrogant poseur "lead with his chin", and quite predictably, it got popped for a "knockdown"...

Maybe The Marxist Onada should stick to midnight basketball.

He was obviously out of his league in Copenhagen.

Everything this guy touches turns in to a loser. Michelle looks angry in the photo posted earlier. She always looks angry.

This may sound strange, but I’m beginning to wonder if the push to put B Hussein in the White House may have been very closely tied to getting the Olympics in Chicago all along. It is very telling how many of his cronies, I mean advisors, were set to reap immense benefits from getting the Olympics in Chicago.

This is a HUGE blow to many of his supporters (Chicago Political Machine).

Michelle needs to be a little cautious from now on so as to not become an USA version of Emilia Marcos with here stopping D.C. traffic to run around the corner to by Tuscan Cale (also called lacinato, black, or dinosaur kale), to her latest excursion there in Copenhagen.

Being fair to both of these Chicago and Illinois political heavyweights, but national and international "ultra featherweights", talking a good game or street "trash-talking" is more than just saying "yo mamma."

"Bringing Home the Bacon", means delivering something substantial for everyone, and we see here that their combined mindsets are on buying or paying off Chi-Town politics. With a projected cost of $1B for the proposed Olympic village within eyesight of the Obama's home, could that have increased property values there just a little in their favor? Can we all say, YES IT WILL, Yes It Will, yes it will.

If taxpayers would be on the hook to pay for a Chi-Town slum renovation, why wouldn't we clean up a similar slum at Kibera (Nubian: Forest or Jungle) a neighborhoods of Nairobi, Kenya? Let the Obamas start helping Mr. "No We Can't" brother living in a dirt floored hut before we start slum-renovation and crony enrichment there in Chicago.

"Drain the swamp" there in D.C. was to rid the city of mosquitoes, not the US Treasury. But who am I to complain about extravagant shopping sprees, fancy dinners in NYC, and a completely jobless recovery, as long as we can have "Change We Can Believe In."

Hey buddy, got a dime? My dollars are worthless.

Jusr look at Axelrod’s response and you can see he was mad about his future money or payback from Chicago. He made Millions from the firm he sold who pitched the program for CHICAGO. His son still works there and the firm also was working for many Democrats and on the Healthcare tv spots earlier this summer.

So yes there needs to be a linkage - Corruption investiagation regarding the CHICAGO connection in the Whitehouse. There I a lot of Dirt there. Will it take Obama down?

Let’s pray for our country!

A sense of stunned bewilderment suffused Air Force One and the White House...

They think they're invincible. What a shock to them to discover they are mere mortals just like the rest of us.

Maybe already said but - Zero travels the world telling everyone how terrible this nation is - and then expects the committee to believe him when he tells them Chicago, USA is the place to hold Olympics?

He better get his stories straight.
