A radio station in Athens, Ga., is drumming up publicity by calling itself “Obama Government-Controlled Radio” and playing Hawaiian pop, songs like “Superfly” and “Disco Inferno” and clips from President Obama’s campaign speeches.

A dumb stunt, to ssay the least.
Radio stations are wll know for this kind of silliness.
EOns ago a station in Tucson (KTKT) played a song over and over “until enough folks called in to change it” They lost a lot of advertisers - and nobody called in, listeners just switched stations, D’oh!

Uhhhh, I think the station’s spoofing the Won. A brave move for an Athens radio station.
I’d be laughing my butt off if I heard something like that. Heck, IF I ran a station, this is EXACTLY what I’d be doing!

I think they should play “Flying Down To Rio” from the Ginger Rogers-Fred Astaire movie of the same name.
Well it was 103.7, thats the station doing the odd stuff..
100.1 was like a mirror station or something.. played pretty good music too now its pop crap.. sad really.
Sounds like they are changing formats and this is just a publicity prank to get people tune in.

Radio stations that change formats do this kind of thing called “stunting” as part of the changeover process.
They definitely aren’t playing the Olympics theme song.

It is a prank. Athens is the home of the University of Georgia. College town.
