While his trip is certainly within the province of presidential duty, it begs the question, why did he do it?
As the Brazilians celebrate, he looks foolish, not to mention weak to the world. If the president had been able to peddle his influence and bring the games to Illinois, he would have looked effective now, and not coincidentally, effective at the end of his second term (provided he wins one) when the games would take place.-- Talk about historic grandeur and a sure way to memorialize one’s legacy!

I think BO thought it was a “done deal”. A freebie “victory” that he could take credit for. It didn’t work out.
Hitler didn’t need a teleprompter.
Anything to attempt good PR and avoid doing his job. In this case I’m glad he was out of the country. It would save an untold amount of money, effort, and most importantly lives if he just went on vacation and never came back.
Like Carl Rove said on FOX, BO made it about him. He wanted to look good as he was leaving his second term. He wanted the Olympics not for the USA but as a stroke to his ego and that’s why he lost.

Maybe because his is weak and foolish. Sometimes what you see is what you get.
Why did he do it?
Easy question.
Obama thinks he’s the state, like King Louis the Sixteenth.
His effort reminds me of a crude insult hurled by a woman I knew about a guy who thought he was God’s gift to women. “He thinks foreplay means showing up at the front door,” she said.
Obama thinks his mere presence is sufficient to get what he wants. God willing he won’t wreck the country by the time he’s done.

His Chicago mob bosses probably ordered him to do it since they already knew things were not going well for them (money to be stolen).

I understand they already had changed the call for opening the games from "Let the games begin" to "Let the looting begin"!
