Chicago torpedoed by anti-U.S. sentiment? (Bush's fault)

Some Chicago officials say anti-American resentment likely played a role in Chicago's Olympic bid dying in the first round Friday.

President Obama could not undo in one year the resentment against America that President Bush and others built up for years, they said.

"There must be" resentment against America, the Rev. Jesse Jackson said, near the stage where he had hoped to give a victory speech in Daley Center Plaza. "The way we [refused to sign] the Kyoto Treaty, we misled the world into Iraq. The world had a very bad taste in its mouth about us. But there was such a turnaround after last November. The world now feels better about America and about Americans. That's why I thought the president's going was the deal-maker."

State Rep. Susana Mendoza (D-Chicago) said she saw firsthand the resentment against America five years ago when she was in Rio de Janeiro. "I feel in my gut that this vote today was political and mean-spirited," she said.

"I travel a lot. ... I thought we had really turned a corner with the election of President Obama. People are so much more welcoming of Americans now. But this isn't the people of those countries. This is the leaders still living with outdated impressions of Americans."

U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) said she was approached by a consul general at the plaza as they waited for word Friday. "He said ... he was hearing that there wasn't enough time for Barack Obama to dispel the old image. ... But I don't know if that's it."

Presidential press secretary Robert Gibbs rejected the notion that the vote was influenced by the United States' standing: "No, I think you saw both at the U.N. General Assembly, you saw at the G20 last week ... I think virtually every measure of our standing in the world is different than it was just this time last year. So I don't read too much of that into this."

Well, Oh, susana, wait until your mailbox fills up with the resentment that Americans have for a vile cryto-Nazi, racist freak like you. Your day is ending. When we start up the American-style Nuremburg trials, I’m sure we can find a life sentence without parole for you. BTW, we’re seizing everything you own as the proceeds of a criminal enterprise. Have a nice day.

Question for all the whining liberals and Bush Haters who are still blaming the abject failure of Obama’s “power play” on smoldering hatred for the US by the rest of the world. Every year why do tens of thousands of people from nearly every country in the world attempt to become citizens of the United States? Are they doing that because they don't like us? Yeah, right!

Regards,
GtG

I didn’t think Chicago had a chance because of the number of Olympics in the US and the fact that none had been hosted in South America.

The Obama’s made it personal about them in their speeches. There were comments about his use of a teleprompter made by some IOC members. His speech was tacky and using a teleprompter for such a short speech was wrong. The other point is that the whole delegation of the Obama’s and the City of Chicago were convinced that Obama would seal the deal so if you look at it from that aspect he didn’t seal the deal.

That’s why other President’s would never lobby for one city in the US but allow the IOC to make their choice. Would say they were much smarter then this tribe in the WH.

I'm surprised Jesse didn't blame Bush for slavery.

Gosh, I'd love to see somebody ask Jesse, "Rev'rund Jackson, how does it feel to know that somebody else became the first black president?" That'd make a great YouTube clip...

I believe you are right.

Imagine if the IOC had awarded the Olympics to the U.S. The event would have been trumpeted as yet more miracle performed by the Anointed One. Seeing how the Obamas behaved, I am beginning to think they believe their own hype, which is dangerous for a politician.

I agree with you! Can you imagine the hype of the media if Chicago had won?

Was talking to my son on the phone from Chicago (he is in college there) when it was on the radio but he couldn’t tell if Chicago had lost in the first round because they kept talking around it until the one announcer finally gave the names of the three cities surviving. I felt like I won the lottery when Chicago got knocked out first.

Sounds like they are blaming it all on Bush. Why not - everything is his fault, why my God it is going to take Hussein at least three terms to get things back to normal. I post comments on the days news on a local paper website - everyday the looney lefties are blaming Bush and bemoaning the fact that their messiah just has so much to clean up after that we all have to be patient - BARF.

"People are so much more welcoming of Americans now."

Bulls' spit. I'm over in Europe fairly frequently and even in France I've found the locals friendly and accepting of this obvious Americain (sans Français -- even when they lectured me personally in bars about how Bush's planned of Iraq was a bad idea).

And I've seen no end of stories of Americans visiting Iran, of all places, who receive a great welcome not afforded to those of other Western countries, including (especially) Britain.

But in the longer run, better for us all. PLEASE keep them believing in their own hype, until we can replace them with someone capable of the job!

It either had to be racism or Bush’s fault. If those don’t work Obama will be left with no alternative but to throw Oprah under the bus.

They’ll be equally confused by the “anti-American” sentiment of the American voters in 2012 when Barry is shown the door. LOL.

I got a feeling it'll take at minimum of 4 years for the
international “Anti-Bush” sentiment to dissipate.
