WWII Vets Take To The Sky For Flight Of Honor
101 Local Veterans Visit WWII Memorial
UPDATED: 9:31 pm EDT October 3, 2009

GREENSBORO -- With family and friends looking on in anticipation, 101 local veterans took to the sky Saturday morning for a daytrip visit to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
These were the men and women who 65 years ago stormed the beaches in France, battled at sea, liberated Paris, marched to Berlin and served on the home front, all to squash the surge of tyrannical Nazism and preserve freedom in the world.
The veterans, now in their 80s and 90s, boarded a chartered US Airways flight at Piedmont Triad International Airport, bound for Regan National Airport for a day dedicated to their honor and service to the United States during WWII.
Local dignitaries Sen. Richard Burr, Rep. Virginia Foxx and Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joins all bid the veterans farewell.
Even celebrity Betty Lynn, known for her role as Thelma Lou on "The Andy Griffith Show," went along on the trip to show her support for the veterans.
"They're all so sweet and have wonderful stories. I'm hoping we'll all be together on the plane because I know most of their names now," Lynn said. "I kept thinking, when will they have a monument to WWII veterans? It took them forever and I hear it's beautiful."

The Triad Flight of Honor is a service project of Rotary District 7690, which includes the 11-county region of the Piedmont Triad. Other community organizations and businesses also sponsored the event.
The cost to send a veteran on the flight is $500.

Wonderful post. What a tragedy that the Veterans from WWII receive praise and honor now, respect and sacrifice from the public then, but the 8 men that just died in Afganistan have the President’s refusal to help, his lethal ROE, and the medias’ back turned. The public whistles while headed for the football game. Sad.

This definitely has to be aired out as OB’s “BLACK HAWK DOWN”.
If nothing else it really awakened the sheeple to how WJC was screwing the troops in the field and public sentiment at least forced him to act...
We all know that ‘they’ can screw with the people but you
just get yourself in a ‘bind’ when they screw with the military.....
I hope this is how it plays out. Somehow, the media, Hollywood, the universities have taken this country away from itself and delivered it to the darkness.
This administration seems to hate America.
