George Will: Obama Went to Copenhagen to Speak About Himself

George Will: Obama Went to Copenhagen to Speak About Himself By Noel Sheppard Created 2009-10-04 12:10

On Sunday, ABC's George Will uttered an inconvenient truth about Barack Obama that his adoring media have been ignoring since he first threw his hat into the presidential ring in February 2007: his rhetoric is filled with constant references to himself.

To prove the point on the most recent installment of "This Week," Will counted the number of times Mr. and Mrs. Obama used the words "I" and "me" during their speeches in Copenhagen Friday.

The numbers are shocking making it likely in Will's view that the word "vain" is going to eventually attach itself to Obama (video embedded below the fold with transcript):

What's alarming is whether it indicates a belief on the part of the President which is that there is no problem that will not melt before the sunshine of his charm. And this is evidence again that it's not so. The President and First Lady went to Copenhagen and gave little speeches about themselves. She, Mrs. Obama, used the first-person singular pronoun in some form or another, "I" or "me", sixteen, 34 times in sixteen paragraphs. He used it 23 times in thirteen paragraphs. It was all about them, and the danger is an adjective sooner or later attaches to presidents. Honest Abe, Tricky Dick Nixon. All kinds of adjectives. The danger to the President is that Vain is going to attach to him.

Precisely.

The only question is when will other Obama-loving media members begin to realize this?

This seems especially important given the press's complicity in helping Obama create his Cult of Personality [0].

Thank you, George Will. We need more and more of this type of information brought up on the alphabet Sunday talk shows.

The World see’s it, now the Lame MSM needs to acknowledge it.

Never. They have too much invested in him and besides, they all have teenybopper crushes on his semi-blackness.

narcissistic in chief?

Let's see: his most significant accomplishment before running for the US Senate and then the presidency was writing two books--both of them autobiographies.

His own grossly-inflated ego is the tool he applies to all problems. He doesn't know any other approach.

Narcissist-in-Chief sums it up nicely.

I don’t think the right words were “ personal charm”. The words should have been “litany of grievances”. Despite their own success stories, the Obamas are a bitter pair.

I for one am sick of hearing how tough they had it. Other people have faced bigger hurdles and worked harder and don’t have nearly the “outcome” that this pampered pair has achieved.

....of course they behaved that way!...they’re full of themselves...Michelle has learned that in this country an educated black person can get white approval by giving a “how-I-triumphed-over-adversity” speech...that’s because so many liberal whites automatically assume a black person is a “victim”....apparently Europeans on the IOC weren’t moved to tears by her tale.

Obama is a rap star competing with his idols like Jay-Zee. Jay-Zee gets his self worth from how many CDs he sells while Obama measures his self worth by the polls. White idiots make the rap stars rich and same idiots got Obama elected

I think what we need is to recognize that social mores require government nudges like the ones Bloomberg creates and Obama adviser Cass Sunstein advocates.

Dear Joe: if they were really social mores, they wouldn't require government "nudges". Is it Joe Stein, or Joe Stalin ?

This article is nothing more than testing the waters for dictatorship. Count me out, baby.

Right now it’s one or two “reporters” here and there (outside of Fox and talk radio) who are willing to step out of the “mmm mmm mmm Barak Hussein Obama” chorus line and actually do their friggin’ job... I wonder if other reporters might say to themselves, “you know, why do I have to continue playing the low-IQ fool... why can’t I be a real reporter to?”

And if that starts to happen... if that starts to snowball...

What this President will never understand is individual Liberty and Freedom for all is making sure each one of us is accountable and responsible for our words and actions.

Anti-American's do not understand this idea is born out of men given the gift of free will by a creator, whether this is a being or their conscious, not some faux utopian gov't.

This is why liberalism all the way up to totalitary communism is so incredibly evil and selfish. This is why Obama talks about himself because not only is he spitefully arrogant, his thoughts are small minded garbage!

And Michelle went to Princeton and got a degree in Herself.

Her thesis: "Princeton Educated Blacks and the Black Community."

And it was all about her.

That's what she studied.

Herself.

That's what she's an expert in.

Herself.

A great many people in our country would be successful if the only criteria they were required to have to get into Yale or Harvard was to have skin.

Barack The Vain Obama

Barack The Vain Obama

Barack The Vain Obama

Barack The Vain Obama

Barack The Vain Obama

Barack The Vain Obama

Barack The Vain Obama

Barack The Vain Obama

Excellent point...I heard this has been a problem once these affirmative action people get to college and they hit the real world. I'm for the type of AA that's in the NBA - you gotta produce no matter what your color.

“A great many people in our country would be successful if the only criteria they were required to have to get into Yale or Harvard was to have skin.”

....a while back I saw a study that Harvard did on their minority scholarship students....the overwhelming majority came from intact families and had both parents working in decent jobs....say the mother was a school teacher and the father was a mid level manager at the VA hospital...the typical minority student was not some poor kid from down in the ghetto....somebody who really could desperately use a hand up.

Despite their own success stories, the Obamas are a bitter pair.

I'd say that's because when they're alone with themselves, they're forced to realise that they don't actually have a "success" story. They haven't actually ever achieved anything, the so-called" successes" which are attributed to them are the result of Affirmative Action, and they know it. This is what AA does to people-destroys their confidence in themselves, forcing them to put up a facade of achievement. But they themselves can't hide from the truth. They need limitless amounts of adulation to live with themselves and the truth.

But then I realized that Obama is so conceited he surely doesn’t use confidence building exercises (although he may read his own books now and then for inspiration).

Karl Marx once gave a four hour speech in which he never uttered a personal pronoun.
Obama missed that part of his mentor’s lesson.
