George Will: Obama Went to Copenhagen to Speak About Himself

George Will: Obama Went to Copenhagen to Speak About Himself By Noel Sheppard Created 2009-10-04 12:10

On Sunday, ABC's George Will uttered an inconvenient truth about Barack Obama that his adoring media have been ignoring since he first threw his hat into the presidential ring in February 2007: his rhetoric is filled with constant references to himself.

To prove the point on the most recent installment of "This Week," Will counted the number of times Mr. and Mrs. Obama used the words "I" and "me" during their speeches in Copenhagen Friday.

The numbers are shocking making it likely in Will's view that the word "vain" is going to eventually attach itself to Obama (video embedded below the fold with transcript):

What's alarming is whether it indicates a belief on the part of the President which is that there is no problem that will not melt before the sunshine of his charm. And this is evidence again that it's not so. The President and First Lady went to Copenhagen and gave little speeches about themselves. She, Mrs. Obama, used the first-person singular pronoun in some form or another, "I" or "me", sixteen, 34 times in sixteen paragraphs. He used it 23 times in thirteen paragraphs. It was all about them, and the danger is an adjective sooner or later attaches to presidents. Honest Abe, Tricky Dick Nixon. All kinds of adjectives. The danger to the President is that Vain is going to attach to him.

Precisely.

The only question is when will other Obama-loving media members begin to realize this?

This seems especially important given the press's complicity in helping Obama create his Cult of Personality [0].

There isn’t a speech yet, that wasn’t about him...

True enough. Last night, I watched “Call Northside 777”. It should be required viewing, at least once a week, for anyone who calls himself a journalist.

“A great many people in our country would be successful if the only criteria they were required to have to get into Yale or Harvard was to have skin.”

....a while back I saw a study that Harvard did on their minority scholarship students....the overwhelming majority came from intact families and had both parents working in decent jobs....say the mother was a school teacher and the father was a mid level manager at the VA hospital...the typical minority student was not some poor kid from down in the ghetto....somebody who really could desperately use a hand up.

Let’s look on the bright side. Who better to run government motors than motor mouth himself?

Anyone remember the song (Carly Simon, I think)...

“You’re so vain
I bet you think this song is about you...”

Despite their own success stories, the Obamas are a bitter pair.

I'd say that's because when they're alone with themselves, they're forced to realise that they don't actually have a "success" story. They haven't actually ever achieved anything, the so-called" successes" which are attributed to them are the result of Affirmative Action, and they know it. This is what AA does to people-destroys their confidence in themselves, forcing them to put up a facade of achievement. But they themselves can't hide from the truth. They need limitless amounts of adulation to live with themselves and the truth.

Great minds think alike...I almost posted the Stuart Smalley speech underneath the photo!

But then I realized that Obama is so conceited he surely doesn’t use confidence building exercises (although he may read his own books now and then for inspiration).

Karl Marx once gave a four hour speech in which he never uttered a personal pronoun.
Obama missed that part of his mentor’s lesson.

Funny, so did Moose-chelle. They deserve each other, but 47% of US don’t deserve them.

You got that exactly right. The whole nation is dumbed down because the government indoctrination centers known as public schools teach to the lowest common denominator in order to "pass" those whose whose true abilities wouldn't allow them to pass, if objective standards were utilised, as in the distant past. The leftys have never been able to come to terms with the fact that though all men are equal before God and the law, all men are not equal in abilities, intelligence, character, perseverance, and achievement.

Reporters aren’t paid to give their opinions. They’re paid to give the corporation’s opinion, and GE needs the perks of positive affiliation with Obama. If they don’t toe the line, GE will replace them with someone who will.

Or he may read them to see what Bill Ayres wrote about him.
