Don Imus on Fox: 'You've Got Nuts In This Building' [After Imus and Geraldo Yes, They Have Nuts!]

Don Imus on Fox: 'You've Got Nuts In This Building' October 4, 2009

Radio provocateur Don Imus, whose daily talk show begins simulcasting on Fox Business Network on Monday, said the cable channel “is a much nicer place” than the other networks that have run his program.

That said, “you’ve got nuts in this building, and I’m not one of them,” Imus told Neil Cavuto on Friday. “I love Glenn [Beck], but I’ll tell you this, it doesn’t end well.”

The debut of “Imus in the Morning” on Fox Business Network comes 2 1/2 years after the shock jock was dropped by CBS Radio and MSNBC for making derogatory comments about the members of the Rutgers University women’s basketball team.

Imus said he understood the action they took. “You have an obligation if you work for News Corp. or GE to behave yourself,” he said. “It’s irrelevant as to whether I was kidding or not. It starts with the comment. ... I fully understand that. Probably what I would have done.”

In an effort to mesh Imus’ wide-ranging program with its business news mission, Fox Business plans to intersperse financial news throughout the simulcast, which will start off each morning at 3 a.m. Pacific with news updates from anchors Connell McShane and Jenna Lee.

They will provide market news throughout the three-hour program. Former New York Stock Exchange chief Dick Grasso will be one of Imus’ guests on Monday.

How ingenious of Fox to hire this long-haired, cowboy hatted old hippy imbecile!

It's good to know that he and Lindsay Graham have the same dislikes.

I’m sure Roger Ailes sees something worthwhile in imus, but I certainly can’t.

Of course his having geraldo there is also a real head scratcher. I guess it’s just another one of those business decisions that leave you shaking you head.

Fox and Murdoch are serious about gaining market share...and Imus is a good fit in the "fair and balanced" philosophy. Agree or disagree, he is going to bring new viewers to FOX. CNN's Beck and Van Susteren were traded to FOX for Paula Zahn, who "retired" from CNN what a brilliant trade for FOX

I wouldn’t object if FOX traded Paula Zahn for Imus any day of the week.

Don Imus puts me to sleep.

It's amazing how fast he got the taste of Al Sharpton's backside out of his mouth. What a pu$$y.

Imus needs to be thrown into a washing machine with a bucketful of suds and the door closed permanently, and hit the fast button

Amazing how people think these ‘shock jock’ type media people are a big deal. How tough is it, just say outrageous things all day and have a media campaign to support you, convincing all the followers in this country that you are a big deal. What a joke. Imus, Letterman, Stern, these guys are of such limited ability and offer so little, it’s remarkable people still think they are significant.

You hit this nail right on its head. These bastards go onto make millions of dollars in the race to the bottom and haven’t done a day’s honest job in real life. Same goes for Oprah in a different way that created a nation of victims.

The only time I ever listened to Imus was when driving from the Boston area to NY when there was nothing else more tolerable on the radio. The trick was to turn the volume down to the point where I could hear the voice but not so loud that I could understand anything.

I like Glenn Beck, but you have to admit Imus’ comment about him was kinda witty. Beck does provoke worry of burn-out or something of that order. He’s very emotional, and it’s not all acting, and he’s attempting about 10 projects at once.

There is a lot of name-calling on these threads about Imus, but very little substance in the objections to him. I think he is funny most of the time. In addition, he seems well informed and smart. Finally, he does not brown nose his political guests to nearly the same extent as most interviewers. My sleeping and working schedule will usually keep me from being able to watch him, but I will when I can.

First thing in the morning, I turn on FOX Business. I may not do it much more. I don’t know what I’ll do. Maybe, Santelli can get his own show.

Different strokes for different folks. I know a lot of people like him, including some FR folks. He’s occasionally funny, and he often gets pretty good guests and interviews them under very casual conditions that you don’t get in a normal interview program.

So, thats the good side.

The bad side is that, to me, he’s a creep.

I used to listen to him, and I remember one time he got on a pretty foul rant and at the end of it said, “and if you don’t like it, turn the station”. So I did. Haven’t gone back. But thats just me. He is occasionally funny and occasionally interesting, but not my cup of tea.

Beck can be informative, but I question his judgement. He told O’Reilly that Katie Couric was “delightful”. I sure hope he was being sarcastic. If he meant it then he went down a couple of pegs as far as I am concerned.

Maybe, Santelli can get his own show.

As far as I am concerned, Santelli was the driving force of the inception of the tea parties. Glenn Beck picked up the flag and carried it further and others have helped to broaden the base and bring more and more people into the movement. But I think we owe Santelli a special gold star for having the guts to say what he was saying early in the game.

I will never watch him. He is excrutiatingly boring. He mumbles. But apart from that, anyone who makes a “nappy-headed ho” comment just doesn’t deserve a second chance. I really question FOX on hiring him. Who do they think is going to watch him???
