Airline asks passengers to use the toilet before boarding... and help cut carbon emissions

All Nippon Airways says passengers who empty their bladders before boarding will help reduce carbon emissions

All Nippon Airways (ANA) claims that empty bladders mean lighter passengers, a lighter aircraft and thus lower fuel use.

Airline staff will be present at boarding gates in terminals to ask passengers waiting to fly to relieve themselves before boarding, The Independent reported.

ANA hopes the weight saved will lead to a five-tonne reduction in carbon emissions over the course of 30 days.

The airline began the policy on October 1, according to Japan’s NHK television.

Although it is intended as an experiment lasting one month and 42 flights, the trial may be extended if it is well-received by passengers and if results are positive.

Based on an average human bladder capacity of 15oz, if 150 passengers relieved themselves on board an aircraft, this would amount to 63.7kg of waste.

Pure insanity. If they want to save weight, stop painting those airplanes.

So, if they do reduce their fuel usage by having a mass wee-wee break, will they refund the savings to their passengers?

If they would just let us open the windows we could pee in-flight.

You have GOT to be kidding me?!! They want me to pee before I fly to save fuel? Well, you know, alcohol is a mild diuretic, so you might want to think about eliminating that from flights, too.

This whole environmental “save the planet” crap is just a way to rule our lives!

Well, that’s 63Kg not in the tank. You know, if they said they were doing it for cost control, I would like it better. Less in the tank means less I have to smell.

"Airline asks passengers to use the toilet before boarding... and help cut carbon emissions"

Imagine the reduced carbon emissions if these airline personnel all took a flying shit for themselves before boarding the aircraft. But capricious, freedom-infringing formulas for a 'greener' earth are precisely what the snakes of the green movement want, (Al Gore, et al), so they can control everyone's lives and make themselves God. Unless there is a massive uprising, the left joining the right, this world will become a hell hole for all but the godless earth worshippers, and the irrational. They will think they're in heaven, the rest of us should prepare for hell on earth. Freedom is losing ground quickly.

It’s a Zero-sum proposition. In order to produce 63.7kg of urine, the passengers would have to consume about 70 kg of liquid refreshment.

No, I don’t think so.

You really want the likes of Michael Moore naked on an airplane?

I normally go to the restroom before boarding a plane anyway. I prefer to not have to use an airplane restroom!

Good point.......
I’ve always wondered what the weight savings would be if the carpeting and all of those magazines and B.S. reading material were removed from the aircraft.

Make fat people (excuse....obese) buy two seats (try sitting next to some whale for 9 hours whose body flops over into your paid for space).... I’m sorry but if you’re wider than this sign here you must purchase two seats - kind of like height requirements for amusement rides.

Get draconian with luggage - don’t laugh. We had severe restrictions on weight when flying to Iraq and Afghanistan. You can pack sufficiently with a 44 lb. bag and one 14. lb carry-on.

NASA figured this out years back when the white paint applied to the monstrous external fuel tank was eliminated. I believe they gained another 11,000 lb.of payload in return - or something to that effect.

All Nippon Airways says passengers who empty their bladders before boarding will help reduce carbon emissions

Actually, a great many of those bladders are filled by the liquids consumed at airport restaurants and snack and liquor bars. Then there is the water fountain. And they need to consider the drinks brought on board by the airline itself for distribution or sales during flight. And, it's not just the drinks. What about the food people consume just prior to boarding the planes?

It seems that if they were really serious, the would ban all of those areas in the airport and on the plane that tempt people to "fill up".
