California Speedway Broadcast Schedule for the weekend series
California Speedway California Speedway has a history that you might expect a track just 50 miles from Hollywood to have.
The speedway sits on a 568-acre site that once hosted the first steel mill located west of the Rocky Mountains, Kaiser Steel Mill. The mill produced the steel that helped build the Liberty ships used by the Allies to win World War II.
Kaiser Steel went out of business in 1983. Following that, the site fell into such disrepair that it was used in the movie The Terminator to portray a post-Apocalyptic world where men and machines battled each other for supremacy and survival.
Penske Motorsports Inc. purchased the land and completed the track in 1997. The first race held on the track was a Winston West Series race won by Ken Schrader on June 21, 1997. Later that day, Mark Martin won an International Race of Champions event at the new facility. Jeff Gordon won the track's first Cup race the following day.
California Speedway has also played host to races in the NASCAR Busch and Craftsman Truck Series, as well as events in the IndyCar Series and what is now the ChampCar World Series on its oval and road racing and motorcycle events on its road courses.
In 1999, Penske Motorsports Inc. merged with International Speedway Corporation, bringing California Speedway into the ISC family of tracks. Beginning in 2004, California Speedway's two-mile oval became the host of two NASCAR Cup Series races each year, adding a Labor Day weekend event to is roster of activities.

Thanks Norm, we’ve got a great NASCAR thread and race that’ll be filled with who dunits and who didn’t dunits.
What a minute. I sense Tork is either talking about me and trying to pass along dis-information.
On a side note, I weed-eated snow today for the first time ever. It was left over from our weekend snow-storm; I was trying to clean up the yard. The end result wasn’t bad, just a cold spray in the face. It’s a lot more fun then hitting a doggie “land-mine”.

Since you can’t post to me here’s some NASCAR news:
The 5 & 48 passed their 2nd inspection this week along with the 2 & 14.
I disagree w/NASCAR advising Keselowski not to race w/the chase drivers. Don’t allow anyone else on the track during the chase races then. Geesh, let em race.
Daytona and Talledega fences to be raised. OK.
With the points spread getting tighter among the chase drivers no one can afford an “off” race. There are too many legitimate contenders. While Martin is the sentimental favorite among many (me included) it is obviously that J.J. or any other driver in the top 8 could get hot (or hotter) and win this thing. Has there ever been a tie for the championship?

Yup, has to rank right up there among the best-threads list.
Many more creative responses then the “sperm” thread...that one left a bad test in my mouth.

NASCAR, TV execs agree on earlier 2010 start times CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)NASCAR will attempt to halt its sinking television ratings through consistent, earlier start times that appeal to longtime race fans.
NASCAR chairman Brian France said Wednesday that Fox, ESPN/ABC and Turner agreed to the earlier start times after research showed our core fans want to begin watching NASCAR a little earlier in the afternoon.
In 2010, the bulk of the schedule will start at 1 p.m. Eastern time next season, including the Daytona 500. In all, 28 races next season will begin earlier than they did this year.

Ding-ding-ding, winner!
“There are only four common words in the English language that are nearly impossible to rhyme. What is interesting about them is that three of the four are colors, silver, orange and purple. Perhaps this is because colors demand a certain amount of originality in their naming. The other common word that does not have a rhyme is month. This is an Old English or Germanic word that derives from “moon”, a month being roughly one cycle of the moon’s phases.”
Tubebender knew all 4, he was just to shy to admit it.
