The coming war with Iran
The Washington Times ^ | Sunday, October 4, 2009 | Jeffrey T. Kuhner

Posted on 10/06/2009 7:12:47 PM PDT by topfile

War with Iran is now inevitable. The only question is: Will it happen sooner or later?

-snip-

Washington now has two choices: Sanction an American or Israeli military attack to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities or allow Tehran to go nuclear. Either option means war.

A devastating strike would likely trigger a fierce Iranian response, including waves of suicide bombers targeting Israeli civilians and U.S. troops in Iraq. Iranian missiles would pound Israeli and, maybe, European cities. Vital shipping lanes in the Persian Gulf would be disrupted, driving the price of oil to more than $300 a barrel - plunging the West into a possible depression. Hezbollah sleeper cells might be activated within the United States, unleashing deadly atrocities on American soil.

Yet, allowing a nuclear-armed Iran is likely to lead to an even worse regional war. Once the ruling clerics get their hands on nukes, a military showdown with Israel is inevitable. They will seek to destroy the Jewish state once and for all. Jerusalem will not stand by and commit existential suicide. It will retaliate. The result would be a nuclear holocaust in the Middle East.

The winds of war are blowing across the Persian Gulf. Following this summer's crackdown on pro-democracy protesters, the Iranian regime is weak, desperate and fracturing. Washington should vigorously pursue a policy of internal regime change; otherwise, Tehran will drag the Middle East into a certain conflagration that could lead to the slaughter of millions.

Instead, Mr. Obama has ruled out "meddling in Iran's internal affairs." His peace-at-any-cost diplomacy guarantees military conflict. It is no longer a question of if this will happen, but when and on whose terms. Mr. Obama is sleepwalking into disaster. America and the Middle East will pay the price.

Obama wants all his muslim brethren to have nukes. Anything to destroy this country. And as we go down his “followers” will continue to make excuses and say he misspoke.

My suspicion is that the Madman is not going to start blowing things up after he gets his bomb, but is instead going to try to intimidate, much as the North Korean pygmy does. That spectacle won’t be good for Obama’s apologists, either.

The rumor is that the Saudis are quietly prodding the Iraelis to act, but I suspect they will act if Israel does not.

So the sollution is to go to war????

Good grief. Can no one think of a solution to anything besides destroying property and killing as many people as possible?

I believe that the Saudis have given Israel permission to fly over Saudi airspace when the attack on Iran finally comes. Naturally, the Saudis will deny this, but they hate, and fear, the Iranians.

Obama can't meddle in Iran's internal affairs...he's too busy meddling in Honduras'.

He thinks the Iranians are like the Sunni Muslim kids he went to school with in Indonesia. He needs to learn that the leaders of Iran are much wackier than that. He may think he can get away with voting "present" if Iran tries to attack Israel, but the Israelis will retaliate, and then what does Obama do?

That sounds reasonable unless Ahmadinejad and the Mullahs are indeed fanatics. Godless North Korea certainly has a different ideology agreed?

Obama desparately does not want war with Iran, and his leftist supporters in the Democratic Party are adamantly against it. The usual crowd of leftist and liberal types are already whining about Afghanistan. There is the possibility, however, that Obama will be dragged into a war with Iran, whether he wants it or not.

So the solution is to go to war????

Not the solution, but the likely outcome. The writer is advocating that "Washington should vigorously pursue a policy of internal regime change". The problem is Obama has seemingly ruled that out.

Obammy will kick the can down the road for the next Republican administration.

That way more American soldiers will be killed, and the Democrats can blame the GOP for every casualty. Both ours and theirs.

Obammy will have his off-shore accounts, his faculty position in the Ivy League, his ceremonial UN job as “ambassador at large,” and his Nobel prize. He’ll be living large when this thing blows excrement-high.

Let’s all chip in and buy him one, or what the heck, buy him a pair for the sake of the missus. Withdraw the troops from Iraq for Afghanistan by way of a devastatingly bombed Iran dispatching as many of those who respond belligerently as possible and as many of those who happen to be in the way as we whack the belligerents during a pre-announced time for transit of U.S forces across Iran to Afghanistan to deal with that bunch. If Alexander the grape could do it without air support, Obama can do it with air support and nukes if he has one or two of what he needs. If he already has some, he has certainly concealed the fact heretofore.

That’s a possibility, but I think even the Madman realizes that if he uses the bomb, he’s toast (assuming we can trace it to him).

Of course, if Obama is still President, maybe he’s not toast.

1. Maybe this is what Biden meant by the cryptic comment about Obama being tested to do something his supporters won’t like?

2. On the other hand, maybe Obama IS the hidden Imam?

One Nation should put the insignia of another nation (some western European country) on its aircraft and bomb only oil production and oil shipping targets. Then the rest of the world would get the job done.

The question assumes Obama is thinking. I'm afraid all of his cognitive abilities have been adapted to running for office. Foreign policy? Defense policy? Obama doesn't think about such things, he merely emotes.

Obama will never start a war with Iran, however he will be unable to escape reacting to attacks on the United States following Israel’s inevitable attacks against the Iranian nuclear sites.

Israel will start it, and Obama will be forced to react; the only question is whether he goes after Iran or Israel...
