Thanks to DJ for finding this.

Albuquerque was an Obama stronghold last year. The tide appears to be turning.

Well, it’s easier to win when a second Democrat runs and gets over 20%. We need Romero to run as an independent for the ABQ congressional seat. : )

That’s the same Richard Romero who was Heather Wilson’s opponent in 2002 and 2004 (getting 45 and 46% in each race). He’s an ex-Republican. If it goes to a runoff, there may be an even chance he endorses Berry, since he hammered Chavez pretty hard (and Chavez’s campaign attacked him in turn, calling him a disloyal Dem for being a prior Republican).

Looks like either ACORN is not providing voters or the people are waking up to Democrats and don’t like what they see.

Martin Chavez has holed up in his campaign HQ, and it’s not a good sign for the candidate when that happens.

Monahan dubbed me the “NM political expert from TN.” :-P

In another article from the same reporter, it’s pointed out that the number of early and absentee votes are double what they were four years ago.

Iremember Romero very well from his races against Wilson, which is why I thought about how nice it would be for him to run as an indy inthe House race in 2010.

I recall some controversy thatled many Democrats to desert him. Did he make a deal with Republicans to stay as Senate president or something? I can’t remember what it was.

Yeah, saw that. Chavez may still win ultimately, but it won’t be like in ‘05. I was in ABQ around this time 4 years ago when he was campaigning for his prior term and he didn’t have much but desultory opposition.

Yeah, he bounced the venerable (and very corrupt) Manny Aragon from his perch as Senate President Pro Tempore in 2001 (after a whopping 13 years), although Aragon got the Majority Leader position later in the year when the DINO Tim Jennings left the job (I forget whether he was deposed or left voluntarily). Aragon is now in prison.
