Plainfield An animal control officer was injured late Tuesday night when a pit bull lunged at her and knocked her to the ground.
Animal Control Officer Theresa Foss, a 17-year veteran, responded to the call at the Roberts' residence at 270 Green Hollow Road about 10:48 p.m. after it was reported the dog would not let a resident exit the house. The dog alternated from the front and rear doors of the house, police said. The dog does not belong to the Roberts.
The dog is described as a pit bull, white in color with some brown and tan spots, wearing a thick black collar.
Foss, 47, arrived at the scene and was knocked to the ground by the dog. When the complainants saw the pit bull about to go after the downed officer, resident Ron Roberts fired two or three shots from a .22 rifle at the dog. The dog reportedly yelped and ran away, police said.
Foss remained down and emergency medical services were summoned. She was taken to the William W. Backus Hospital for possible head injuries and later transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The dog remains at large. Anyone with information on the dog's owner is urged to call police at 860-564-0804.

Are you trying to put me out of work?
OMG! I read “Backus” and realized this was Norwich where I lived in back in ‘95-’96! (I visited the ER there and had my EKG.)
Anyway:
“When the complainants saw the pit bull about to go after the downed officer, resident Ron Roberts fired two or three shots from a .22 rifle at the dog.”
OK, so why did it take so long for “complainant” to use the weapon?
I watched a pit attach an animal control officer on Animal planet once....The old lady let the dog out delibertly...It was vicious to watch.....locked onto her arm and wouldn’t let go.....She was screaming and the owner did nothing....
Plainfield... isn’t that where the dog race track is?

Needed Mo’Gun!!!...
Maybe the crazy canine interloper wouldn’t let him get to where he kept his gun either, and only until it was lured out of the house was this possible.
Cross referencing, I guess. Guns and Pit Bulls!
I still need more practice to be comfortable with it. Not as big a kick as I thought. Remington pump, holds 5 shells..If I miss 5 times I'll have to beat someone to death.
“Kaching!” Another $50 to my local pitbull rescue.
Thanks for posting,

This Model 88 Mossberg is my first pump-gun and we love it !
I had to laugh at my son in law...He lives in a hardwood forest about 1/3 off the road. The drive way is just a path back to his (and my daughters) house...He had a large wooded hill behind the pond and that's where we shoot...He told me one of his friends was out in the woods someplace hunting which made me nervous about shooting...So I shot across the pond to the the other edge of the water....
S I L got a wicked grin on his face and said as soon as the guy hears the boom, he'll move real quick....
Guys are a whole different breed and I love them all...
Chet...reinforcements are incoming bro!
about 1/3 of a mile back off the road....
The PDP are keystone cops. It’s no surprise that a citizen had to save this “officer” who’s probably a politician’s daughter or something.
I grew up in that area. This has to be one of the most corrupt and backward police departments around..
I apologize, because I’m not anti-cop at all and you may get that impression. I’ve never had a run in with PDP, but I’ve seen exactly how they operate through others and also by knowing some of them. I truly despise that police force up there. I’d almost bet money that they end up charging the guy who helped the officer, despite their initial gratitude.
Sounds like a great place to shoot,,,
I started out shootin’ over water myself as a 7yo,,,
Got a nice fat mallard hen that winter,,,and,,,
About a dozen of my Dad’s paper decoys! I got ribbed,,,
