UTICA, N.Y. -- Twelve Utica residents face federal charges for approximately $2 million in food stamp fraud. These charges come after an 18 month state and federal investigation.
Police say those indicted were accepting food stamp benefits in exchange for cash, which is a violation because these benefits are only to be used for eligible food products. A federal grand jury indicted the 12 Tuesday.
Only eight were actually arrested and charged Tuesday with defrauding the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program formerly known as the Food Stamp Program. They include:
· Muteea Alfahdd, 41
· Najeeb Abdullah, 44
· Hamoud Yafal, 60
· Ali Hamoud Yafal, 21
· Yaser Saet, 27
· Bakri Ali Samet, 33
· Setha Samnang, 42
· Rina Samnang, 36
Authorities say they are trying to track down the other four people including Nageeb Alghaheim, 24; Mohamed Alshuja, 30; Hassan Mohamed Nagi Alshegaa, 23; Ali Mulhi Abdullah, 36 who may or may not be living in the country.
Everyone arrested was either a store owner or store employees at the six Utica convenience stores listed here:
· Sure Save Market, 1400 Kemble Street, Utica
· Manhattan Plaza #2, 1321 Oneida Street, Utica
· C&M Deli, 1029 West Street, Utica
· William Street Food Corp., 627 William Street, Utica
· 1038 Food Corp., 1038 Court Street, Utica
· Phnom Penh Market, 1633 Oneida Street, Utica
"Those arrested today are some of the worst profiteers that we encounter, preying on government program that ensures a very basic need is met. Adequate food for those persons who cannot provide for themselves," said USDA Special Agent-in-Charge Brian Haaser.
These charges carry a maximum sentence of imprisonment of five years and a fine of not more than $20,000.
Darn Amish.
Zero wasn’t available for a comment.....
What the hell has happened to my America??? News tonight in Houston covered the complaints of people who can’t get food stamps because of the long processing time. Although most of them were dragging around a whole passle of children, at least they were not of foreign extraction!
Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, it's every where. I think 80%, at least, of the foreigners here just came to rape our country. We need to stop immigration, at least until we can sort out the scum.
You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
Be sure to pay your taxes on time everyone, or you’ll be audited.
Neither was senator chuckie aware of this
Now this is what I call “hope and change!” At least someone is making money in this country! The American dream.
Seems like a low risk/high profit scam. It took 18 months to indict these guys and they have a good chance of copping a plea to no jail time. Hard to prosecute when you have willing "victims".
I would call millions of able-bodied Americans, collecting food stamps month in and month out for generations, fraud on so vast a scale as to make this story a minuscule triviality.
Aren't you glad he's dead so he can't make it worse?
Do they all have affordable healthcare?? I was reading somewhere on FR that the Muzzies are amazed how easy it is to cheat America.
The deal is, it isn't minuscule. I was in a quite small Minnesota town awhile ago. We stopped at a McDonald's there on a road trip. Half of the people there were Mexican. Huh???
Sure, we've always had a share of American deadbeats. We always have and we always will. My point is we can't afford the ever increasing amount of illegal deadbeats raping our system on top of the legal ones. We're beyond the tipping point.
I'd hardly call what the 'new immigrants', most likely illegal, are doing fraud-wise a miniscule trivality. Don't get me started on the overload on our education and medical systems.
What really aggravates me is that I was turned down on my application for a low interest SBA loan after Ike demolished my business because I had insurance-although it paid for less than half of the repairs. Maybe I should start using my Bohemian mother’s maiden name and start working seriously on my tan.
On year where I work we had a huge influx of welfare mothers and people in work release came to find out that the company got a tax credit/break for hiring them through something that slick willy had put into law may of been the welfare reform act.
“The deal is, it isn’t minuscule.”

Right, as a whole, it is a huge fraud and theft from the American taxpayer and that was my point.
But, I was comparing the 2 million dollars of this particular theft with the ongoing theft of trillions over the past 40+ years.
I remember when the law passed; the impact was felt years later as the 5 years eligibilty expired. These people had no English skills, never mind job skills, and behaved in a workplace cubicle the way they did on a tenement stoop. They couldn’t get along with productive workers, really couldn’t even understand anything about a work ethic. They didn’t last long, and now have been replaced by similarly skilled but more motivated Hispanics.
corruption ...of course...but the mob has had its fingers in Utica for many decades.....even a car bombing by the "shore"..(any Utican will know what that means)
and btw....besides Lebanese, there are lots of Italians and Polish there....
