OH Supreme Court rules in John Husted's favor
Montgomery County GOP | 10/7/09 | LS

Posted on 10/07/2009 5:56:34 AM PDT by LS

At last night's central committee meeting, John Husted announced that the OH Supreme Court, by a 7-0 vote, had declared his residency in Kettering valid and legal, ending all Dem attempts to keep him from running for SoS. He also said he had been approached by high-level Dems with a deal to let him run unopposed for Treasurer, but of course the goal is to get Jennifer Brunner out.

and if Mike DeWine (I know, I know) gets AG

Seriously??? This is what the Ohio GOP is offering? DeWHine as AG and Kasich as gov? I really need to get out of this state!

And your beef with Kasich is?

If we are to make any progress moving our state and our country forward, we need to quit recycling professional politicians like Kasich and DeWHine.

Honestly, I'm only now starting to look at Kasich and his record. My initial reaction to him is based solely on watching him on FOX a few years ago and thinking, why on earth am I watching this guy, before turning him off for good.

He had 18 years in CONgress and DeWine had 12. Isn't that enough? They had their shot and now have their hefty pensions, at my expense, to live off. Why give them more? Are they not part of the problem? Did they not help push Ohio to where it is today?

I would rather vote for you for Governor -- or AG -- than either of them. If I'm wrong in my initial gut reaction, please feel free to educate me. The general consensus of those I've spoken with around here appears to be, he/they are better than what we have now or who else is there to run. Another "lesser of evils" election is my interpretation.

Again, this is just my gut reaction and/or opinion. This is the first I've spoken publicly about the choices.

Brunner MUST be held to account. I have read that she is considering a run for Senator. Her misdeeds and outright criminal activity must be brought to the forefront. She is plain evil.

I know what you mean, but we need to get real. The cost--personal, time, reputation, etc.---not to mention MONEY, to run for any office is outrageous. We're talking $250k for some local offices, $8 million at least to run for the U.S. senate. Only people with terrific name recognition have a chance. That means celebrities, sports stars, or professional pols who can get their name in the papers all the time. Then, right or wrong, once you get in office, you have so many people who owe you favors that it becomes nearly impossible for an "outsider" to run for that office.

Kasich had a terrific record as one of 435 congressmen. Don't know how much more he could do. DeWine had a fantastic record up to about 2002---his ACU lifetime rating was 96. Now, come on. Up until the gang of 14 and some of the other lunacy he got involved in, he was exceptional. 100% pro-life, good on taxes, supportive of the WoT, solid GOP vote on most issues. He had the horrible ANWR vote that cost us ANWR, literally, and he went soft on guns and along with his tin ear for the electorate, it cost him his seat in 2006. But if you looked at DeWine in 2000, you'd say, well, this guy is pretty much what we need.

Yes, she’s running and as of the last poll, Rob Portman was slightly ahead of her, and Fischer (don’t know which one will win the primary).

Sorry Larry...your response got buried yesterday and I'm just now trying to catch up.

I see everything you just wrote here and understand what you are saying. HOWEVER ...

Only people with terrific name recognition have a chance.
That means celebrities, sports stars, or professional pols who can get their name in the papers all the time.

... adding in the money factor you mentioned and all we are left with is the same old same old. Well, if that is getting real, I pass.

Apparently I have been naive in thinking the American people had finally woke up and will no longer accept the status quo. If what you have said is indeed the mind set of the controlling authority, I will not waste anymore of my time, energy and money going to Tea Party's and other such meetings.

Did you happen to see the old Cheers episode last night?
It was the episode where Dr. Craine conducted an experiment by running Woody Boyd, the bartender, for Boston City Council. He bet the bar patrons he could get Woody 10% of the vote by doing nothing more than entering his name on the ballot and printing up a few posters, placing them in strategic spots around the city.

That is what we need to do. Run "Joe the Plumber" types using a truly grassroots organization to make phone calls, go door to door, write letters, call radio stations, blog etc. etc. As you said, not to mention MONEY, to run for any office is outrageous.
It is outrageous and that would be a great campaign issue -- fiscal responsibility begins with me!

With the economic condition we are in currently, and God only knows what it will be next year, this is the perfect time to change course and give us real hope.

Brunner MUST be held to account.

There is talk about a class action lawsuit against her for participating in the fraudulent election last year, but that is all it appears to be...talk.

But this is done every single election. I just heard two different guys at two different tea parties, "ordinary joes," whom I had never even heard of before. That's the point. No chance.

Moreover, there IS something to be said for having won a lower office and proven yourself. Even baseball players work their way up through the minors. It's ridiculous to think "I'm just going to be a U.S. Senator." Hence, Al Franken. (He, btw, proves my thesis that name recognition alone can win a race).

There is no such thing in American politics as "revolutionary change." Jackson's "revolution was eight years in the making. The American Revolution was ten years in the making. Even Newt's 1994 Revolution had been bubbling for about five or six years. This is of course part of the genius of the FOUNDERS---they wanted it that way. But that means that undoing crap takes at least as long via incremental change, and now the Founders' vision works against us. So, we have to overcome that as well, but it can be done.

At any rate, I like Kasich, not just "don't dislike him." I think he will be an excellent governor. And I like Rob Portman a lot.

Ihope both win and have the chance to investigate what went on in 2006! Jennifer Brunner should be sitting in a jail somewhere and prevented from ever holding office again!

Exactly. And I think both will indeed pursue that. But just in case, I plan to have a little talk with Husted and DeWine.

What is done every election -- Ordinary Joes?
The point is to work for them, not the establishment pick.
You never heard of the 2 guys before, but did you like what what you heard from them? Would you be willing to support them with your time, energy and money?

Moreover, there IS something to be said for having won a lower office and proven yourself.

Hence the usurper squatting in the People's House!
Two years as a US SINator is not a qualification for POTUS.

...undoing crap takes at least as long via incremental change

So the answer is to elect less rinoish candidates with each election until we have something resembling a republican and eventually perhaps close to a conservative, thus slowing the drive to communism, but not halting it?

And I like Rob Portman a lot.

So do I!

Still researching Kasich.

DeWine had a fantastic record up to about 2002---his ACU lifetime rating was 96. Now, come on.

Where are you getting that figure?
According to the ACU website, his lifetime rating in 2002 was 83%. However, if you add their figures for his 8 years and divide by 8 you get a lifetime rating of 77%. The same is true of his entire recorded lifetime rating of 79.8%. When you divide their own numbers by 12 you get a lifetime rating of 74.7%

Mike DeWine NEVER had a rating of 96...not even for one year out of 12. He had a 95 in 2002 -- his only year even close to 90%. 2 years he received an 85, 1 year at 84 and 1 year at 80. 5 out 12 years...the rest were in the 60s and 70s with 2005 @ 56.

Hm. Could have sworn he was higher. But you have to admit that an 85-86 is pretty darn high. But I admit his post-2002 votes were horrible, and said so.

Obama is not what I call experienced, nor is experience alone a qualification for staying in office, or attaining higher office. It is a DISqualification for a higher office if you can’t show that you’ve ever done anything at any level to represent others. Hence, problems such as those seen with Schwarzenegger and Ventura.

Perhaps if you are referring to a DemonRAT or a Republican, but certainly not for a Conservative.

It is all irrelevant anyway since we are discussing DeWine and he never came anywhere close to 85-86.

Mike DeWine's ACU lifetime rating = 74.9 to 79.8
depending on whose figures you use.

Sounds pretty good, but could use something more objective rather than subjective.Do you have an actual record of his votes?
