WASHINGTON President Barack Obama said Wednesday he planned to nominate an openly gay lawyer as the U.S. ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa.
If confirmed by the Senate, David Huebner would become the third openly gay ambassador in U.S. history and the first pick by this administration. In a statement released from the White House, Obama said he looked forward to working with Huebner and is confident he will represent the United States well in the Pacific region.

The Independent State of Samoa used to be a New Zealand territory - New Zealand captured it from Germany in the First World War (the first military action by New Zealand troops after it became an independent nation) and after the war it became a New Zealand dependency under League of Nations and United Nations mandate until 1962. Since independence it has still maintained reasonably close contact with NZ, and so it’s not all that surprising for a US Ambassador to New Zealand to also be appointed to Samoa.

Now that’s funny! I wonder if Obama realizes when he reaches out like this to gays he further alienates Muslims, especially the militants.

I really don't think the Kiwis are really going to care that Our Man in Wellington is a "man's man."
The Brits have been sending their foppish ambassadors to bugger the locals for centuries now anyway...

They do not like swisheys down under. I beg to differ, Melbourne vies with San Francisco as the gayest large city in the world.

This is all about fighting the churches and we can never lose sight of that! They want with government help to force gay marriage on churches.

The Brits have been sending their foppish ambassadors to bugger the locals for centuries now anyway... So America should be just like the Brits and follow suit?
Give me a break.
