If memory serves, the Kenyan Clown would be only the second sitting occupant of the Oval Office to receive the prize, after President Theodore Roosevelt for his work in negotiating the treaty ending the Russo-Japanese War. President Carter also received one, but it was well after his tenure in office.

What a bizarre decision by the Nobel committee. The Kenyan Clown has probably done less for world peace than any previous holder of the office, and certainly 9 months seems like an entirely too short period to make an informed decision if they are going to make the decision on general principles rather than specific actions.

Comment from World News Now Facebook page-

“I guess they took the bribe money for the Olympic bid and sent it to the Nobel committee instead.

The man who accomplished nothing to gain the American presidency but won it because of the color of his skin, has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize by the same logic.

This is not a time to rejoice because an American has won the Nobel Peace Prize, this is a time to mourn the death of reason.

First response: R U KIDDING?/?????? What the @#$%$! did he do to deserve it?

Okay, now - my first question was how? and then why? so I went to Wikipedia, and wa-la: the Nobel Peace Prize is, in itself, sometimes a “joke” - awarded on political basis.... and “Still others are selected for tireless efforts, as in the examples of Jimmy Carter and Mohamed ElBaradei. Others, even today, are quite controversial, due to the recipient’s political activity, as in the case of Henry Kissinger (1973 laureate), Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat (1978 laureates), Mikhail Gorbachev (1990 laureate) or Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat (1994 laureates). A widely discussed[who?] criticism of the peace-prize are the notable omissions, namely the failure to award individuals with widely recognized contributions to peace.”
And here’s the clincher: “Other infamous nominees included Joseph Stalin and Benito Mussolini. However, since nomination requires only support from one qualified person (e.g., a history professor), these unusual nominations do not represent the opinions of the Nobel committee itself.”

Would be VERY interesting to know who nominated this ding-a-ling. UN F***** BELIEVABLE.

The committee is exposed for the joke that it is. Any future winner should be embarrassed and not accept it.

Gonna be pretty tough to send more troops to Afghanistan after winning the ‘peace’ prize. Maybe he can just go show his medal to the Taliban and they will become peaceful...

IBTZ. You should be zotted just for bringing us the bad news. Kill the messenger. Just make this news go away. Take it back, marthemaria, please take it back.

At least the moon gets bombed this morning.

When Obama and his posse go to Sweden to accept the award he’ll give one of his holier then you are speeches, talk about peace on earth goodwill to men, and pull the wool over everyone’s eyes again. If anyone on the Nobel committee had me Rahm they would have changed their minds.

Forget the Nobel committee--the entire human race has jumped the shark.

That this man, who wrote two autobiographies without accomplishing anything of note, and became president because Americans wanted to show Europe that we're not racists, has won this prize after 9 months in the most powerful office on the planet proves only that the Nobel folks want to give him a push so he can institute European-style healthcare.

There is something frightening about that.

IIrena Sendler - 1910 - 2008 ; member of resistance saved lives of 2,500 Polish Jews

By Elaine Woo, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer May 12, 2008

Fate may have led Irena Sendler to the moment almost 70 years ago when she began to risk her life for the children of strangers. But for this humble Polish Catholic social worker, who was barely 30 when one of history's most nightmarish chapters unfolded before her, the pivotal influence was something her parents had drummed into her.

"I was taught that if you see a person drowning," she said, "you must jump into the water to save them, whether you can swim or not." · Irena Sendler

When the Nazis occupying Poland began rounding up Jews in 1940 and sending them to the Warsaw ghetto, Sendler plunged in. With daring and ingenuity, she saved the lives of more than 2,500 Jews, most of them children, a feat that went largely unrecognized until the last years of her life.

...

By 1942, when the deadly intentions of the Nazis had become clear, Sendler joined a Polish underground organization, Zegota. She recruited 10 close friends -- a group that would eventually grow to 25, all but one of them women -- and began rescuing Jewish children. She and her friends smuggled the children out in boxes, suitcases, sacks and coffins, sedating babies to quiet their cries. Some were spirited away through a network of basements and secret passages. Operations were timed to the second.

Last year, Sendler was honored by the Polish Senate and nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, which brought dozens of reporters to her door. She told one of them she was wearying of the attention. "Every child saved with my help is the justification of my existence on this Earth," she said, "and not a title to glory." Sendler, who was the last living member of her group of rescuers, is survived by a daughter and a granddaughter.

SHE LOST TO AL GORE!  NOW SHE LOSES TO OBAMA!

Here's the official press release from the Nobel Committee:

The Nobel Peace Prize for 2009

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.

For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."

What an embarrassment. They are giving the Kenyan Clown the Nobel Peace Prize on this basis? Good gracious, I would think then that John Lennon and Yoko Ono should have also received a string of them.

They should change the name to the Nobel (Affirmative Action) Peace Prize.

He was nominated two weeks after he became president.

This man has done absolutely nothing in his entire life to warrant this award.

This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Nobel Prize in Peace is only a political tool used by far left elements to promote their agenda.

Obama freed no one.

Obama ended no conflicts.

He spoke from a teleprompter. Big deal.

This is all part of the mind meld the newly empowered radicals are trying to foist upon America to warp our values and weaken our thinking.

He was nominated for the prize when he was in office for only 2 WEEKS!

This is a mockery of peace.

This is a man who could not even speak up for days while Iranians were being beaten in the streets.

This is a man who weakens America with his every act.

This is a man who should never be a Commander in Chief.

Now we know why he was dithering on Afghanistan—it wouldn’t look good for a “war-monger” to win a peace prize.

It has come down to this—a teleprompter won a Nobel Prize.
