Skip to comments.Comment: absurd decision on Obama makes a mockery of the Nobel peace prize
Posted on 10/09/2009 6:03:54 AM PDT by Zakeet
The award of this years Nobel peace prize to President Obama will be met with widespread incredulity, consternation in many capitals and probably deep embarrassment by the President himself.
Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of Americas first black president and hope that Washington will honour its promise to re-engage with the world.
Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace.
The pretext for the prize was Mr Obamas decision to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples. Many people will point out that, while the President has indeed promised to reset relations with Russia and offer a fresh start to relations with the Muslim world, there is little so far to show for his fine words.

The world reacts to the Big Wee Wee's big honor
Now his narcissism will really kick in.
The Big O is in good company—Al Gore, Jimmy Carter.
The new name for this award:
The Ignoble Piss Nonprize
Are you kidding? This probably has Obama's ego inflated even more, something many experts thought impossible.
Our guys are spilling their blood in the sand and this b*astard can’t decide what to do about it and getting peace awards...I give up.
Carter and Gore had to do more than vote "present" to get theirs.
You had me up until "the President himself",Mr Binyon.Hussein believes he deserves everything he's ever gotten....and more!
Embarrassment? Don't make me laugh.
Don’t forget Arafat.
No, 0bama winning this prize doesn’t make a mockery of the Nobel - it already was a mockery.
This just puts the cherry on top.
This is from an ABC article:
“The deadline for nominations is February 1, meaning Obama would’ve been nominated after being in office for just 11 days.”
It’s a blatantly transparent move to keep any military action from being taken on Iran, and to influence Zero’s decision on Afghanistan.
It will probably work, too. Zero only mirrors.
The peace prize is now the Nobel “Miss Congeniality” award.
Don’t forget the money. It’s a payoff.
Can it be that our president and the security of our country can be bought so cheaply?
Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent.
Actually, I think it's quite traditional to award a booby-prize to whoever comes in last in the Olympic race.
The Nobel Committee should be praised for being so considerate.
It would be improper to have the Messiah appear on the World Stage and let him go home empty handed.
What a joke. Almost as silly as Algore's Nobel Prize win!
Oh....puhleeeeze. This narcissistic a-hole is loving it.
If it’s not a payoff, let him donate it to the Federal Government to help reduce the brobdinagian debt.
A joke of an award for a joke of a ‘president’.
The Kenyan next should receive an Oscar for ACTING like a Natural-born Citizen
