Comment: absurd decision on Obama makes a mockery of the Nobel peace prize
(London) Times ^ | October 9, 2009 | Michael Binyon

The award of this year’s Nobel peace prize to President Obama will be met with widespread incredulity, consternation in many capitals and probably deep embarrassment by the President himself.

Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of America’s first black president and hope that Washington will honour its promise to re-engage with the world.

Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any tangible outcome for peace.

The pretext for the prize was Mr Obama’s decision to “strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples”. Many people will point out that, while the President has indeed promised to “reset” relations with Russia and offer a fresh start to relations with the Muslim world, there is little so far to show for his fine words.

It’s like declaring an unborn fetus as UN General Secretary.

It reveals the stupidity of the Eurotrash. No sane person would believe Obama is deserving of a Nobel Prize!

My first thought. Here’s this moron embarrassed by the IOC, and 2 days later they ‘rehabilitate’ his image with this worthless POS prize!

Now his narcissism will really kick in.”

What is the line on how long it will be before Europe begs for a George Bush clone to be sitting in the Oval Office.??

Britain is overrun with Islamists, draining that small country’s economy.

The destruction of the Western society will put the world back to the 7th Century.

USA spends billions each year helping Africa with food and medical aid.
Will ANY Islamic nation do that? With 7th century economy?

I don’t see it.

Considering it took 20 years after his presidency for Jimma to get his and only 8 months after being elected for this idiot we are in deep do do. Even AlGore at least made a propaganda movie to get his.

Perhaps, it is the fact that Nobel made his fortune selling explosives that should give us comfort. Would this fit the epithet of “not worth the powder...”?

Al Gore beat Irena Sendler but all she did was saved Jews from death by genocide.

I think Tom Delay deserves the Nobel Prize in Physics or Medicine for Dancing With The Stars with a stress fracture.

Why am I not surprised for this prize? I am currently on a business trip in Norway and I can tell you everyone here is full of admiration to Obama. It is sickening.

When I heard about it this morning I thought it was satire that had broke through the MPM. This is beyond a joke it is obscene. And it cheapens the prize for legitimate awardees.

“The deadline for nominations is February 1, meaning Obama would’ve been nominated after being in office for just 11 days.”

Gawdawful.”

I think that this is fantastic news.

The morning talk radio show that I listen to occasionally pretends to be "Fair and Balanced" but they're really huge libs and big BO supporters. They just have an occasional nod to conservatives...that's all.

Anyhoo - even these liberal grunts were like: "What? They gave it to Obama?! This is a really, really dumb move! He hasn't earned it yet! I'm sick and tired of this cheerleading!!"

And so on.

A FReeper posited that instead of Health Care being BO's Waterloo, that something trivial would pop up instead. Between the (ig)Nobel Prize, and the Olympics....I'm in agreement. BO may have just jumped the shark.

If I ever have to hire an employee in the future—this is the thing I dread most next to the complete incompetance of ‘graduates’ of today’s schools.

I would rather make less and be my only employee.

No. obama's narcissism is so pathological, he will believe he earned it. obama lives in a fantasy world where his ego knows no bounds.

I’m not sure why this bothers me so.

I guess it’s that I still had a tiny bit of hope that the rest of the world wasn’t totally off the deep end.

Yeah, Carter and Arafat were dumb choices, but at least you could make an argument, however specious, that they had “tried”.

But this - 11 days of “work”. Obama didn’t have his desk organized by the time he did whatever he did to “earn” this “award”.

I guess it just makes me realize that this country, sad as it has become under Leftist domination, is pretty much an island in a sea of crap. We darn well better clean up our act here, ‘cause the rest of the world is only getting worse.
