Sima Samar, women's rights activist in Afghanistan: "With dogged persistence and at great personal risk, she kept her schools and clinics open in Afghanistan even during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime, whose laws prohibited the education of girls past the age of eight. When the Taliban fell, Samar returned to Kabul and accepted the post of Minister for Women's Affairs."

Ingrid Betancourt: French-Colombian ex-hostage held for six years.

"Dr. Denis Mukwege: Doctor, founder and head of Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. He has dedicated his life to helping Congolese women and girls who are victims of gang rape and brutal sexual violence."

Handicap International and Cluster Munition Coalition: "These organizations are recognized for their consistently serious efforts to clean up cluster bombs, also known as land mines. Innocent civilians are regularly killed worldwide because the unseen bombs explode when stepped upon."

"Hu Jia, a human rights activist and an outspoken critic of the Chinese government, who was sentenced last year to a three-and-a-half-year prison term for 'inciting subversion of state power.'"

"Wei Jingsheng
, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China's communist system. He now lives in the United States."

This act has devalued the award. I don’t think that even Obama himself expected to get it.

Don’t forget Billy Jeff Clinton. He always coveted a Nobel to help hide the DNA stains on his legacy. Poor egoist must be seething with rage at all the all the ridiculous accolades heaped on Obama that could have been his were his libido lower and his melanin higher.

I don’t think Obama expected it either.

I heard a story that somebody called the White House press office early this morning, asking for reaction, and the very first White House press people reaction was wondering if it was like an April’s fool joke. They were caught flat footed.

Hey, what can we expect when the same prize was passed over a woman who put herself in bodily-harm’s way aiding Jews in Nazi Germany for some attention-starved guy who made a slide-show (Al Gore)?

Few things really surprise me.

Obama winning the Nobel prize for doing absolutely NOTHING did.

Even Mike Steele can hit this ball out of the park

“What has President Obama actually accomplished?’ It is unfortunate that the president’s star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights. One thing is certain -– President Obama won’t be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action.” - Steele

BTW Tim Pawlenty who wants us to vote for him for President says “the “appropriate response is to say congratulations” .”.

Yes, he should give it back. But he’s not that kind of a man.
Let us hope that he keeps it and shows the world what a farce this has all become.
Also, giving it back would make people swoon, and the idol worship would only increase.
Any one of the other nominees deserved it more, and could’ve used the money to further their causes.

I’d like to say something like Obama is bringing shame on this nation, but his followers did that. What must people around the world be thinking, as they see this light weight child pretend to be a statesman?

The Nobel Committee has embarrassed themselves, but I don’t really care about them. I care about our nation, and a man with an ego that has his followers comparing him to not only a rock star, but a deity as in The One.

This NPP will inflate his ego even more. He says he doesn’t think he deserves it, but don’t believe him for a second. He thinks he deserved to be president. He thinks the world loves us once again despite the evidence to the contrary. And for what’s on his mind and has justified his perceptions, he most certainly does think he deserves the prize.

This guy could keep an army of shrinks busy for five lifetimes, but he won’t be seeing one. If anything, he would only explain to them how to get their lives back in order. There’s no question in his mind if he has problems or not. Hell no he doesn’t think he has problems.

People with his problems never do.

A law degree, a book advance, a fat raise for the wife, a sweet real estate deal, a grammy, a Nobel - a presidency. What will they give him next for doing next to nothing? It’s getting harder for him to recognize that it’s come all too easy and harder still for him to realize that more people are starting to see the pattern.

On the London Times web site, a comment: "However, I do now understand the President's ambivalence over the past couple of months since he received the recommendations from General Stanley A. McChrystal to send tens of thousands of more U.S. soldiers to war in Afghanistan. What a shame that those soldiers who have fallen in the interim might have been sacrificed by the indecision of the President while waiting the awarding of the Nobel prize. I pray that the award will not guide his decision making to reject the general's request for troops."

If you watched his “acceptance speech” you might have thought he did seem a tad embarrassed. At any rate it seemed like he was fully aware that he was a laughing stock because of this.

I put the speech on and listened for the first minute, then got bored tho so maybe i missed something.

The guy does go on and on. Why does it take him 20 minutes to say something that could be said in 5 minutes or less? ...oh wait...i forgot...he loves the sound of his own voice and especially that TV time.

If only someone like GWB or his Dad had the "vision thing"...(LOL).

They (or conservative tycoons like Steve Forbes) should divert some of the funds from their Prez. Libraries (or other projects) to found a "REAL Peace Prize Fund", that would honor actual heroes like the ones on this list or Irena Sendler, who was passed over for the Goron.

Then the "Nobel Appease Prizes" would fade into a deserved irrelevance!

He got this for bowing and kowtowing to Arab leaders. His contribution to peace was that he, the President of the United States, bowed and scraped before the leaders of tiny Arab nations. And he allowed it to be photographed while the leaders of Japan and other countries looked on and smirked.

They are rewarding him for his contribution to belittling the Presidency. Truly, we are the world. We are the children.

Reading the list, I would support any of these people as a Nobel Prize winner. The committee could have sent a strong human rights message by any of these selections and have supported diversity at the same time. But then they wouldn’t have necessarily sent the political message they are so intent on, would they?
