ALE agents seize 929 gallons of moonshine

Wilkesboro, N.C. — State Alcohol Law Enforcement agents seized 929 gallons of moonshine Wednesday and arrested a Wilkesboro man, authorities said Friday.

Roger Lee Nance, of 1117 Shew Ridge Mission Road, was charged with possession of non-tax paid liquor, possession of non-tax-paid liquor for the purpose of selling, and possession of equipment and ingredients intended for the use in the manufacture of an alcoholic beverage.

“This is one of the biggest seizures of white liquor I’ve seen come out of the mountains in my career,” ALE Director John Ledford said in statement.

The arrest follows a two-month investigation by ALE agents, assisted by the state Highway Patrol. In addition to the liquor, large amounts of sugar and other items were seized during a search of Nance's property, authorities said.

It's awful when the State doesn't get their cut of the alcohol trade. Just awful.

Moonshine A typical jar of moonshine. It was wrongly believed that the blue flame meant that it was safe to drink.

Actually, there’s “drinkin’ liker” and “sellin’ liker.”
“Drinkin’ liker’ can be quite good.

The first big mistake of the American experiment was when George Washington put down the Whiskey Rebellion. It’s been down-hill ever since.

Let me tell the story
I can tell it all
About a mountain boy who ran illegal alchohol
His daddy made the whiskey
Son he drove the load
And when his engine roared they called the highway thunder road

And there was thunder, thunder, over thunder road
Thunder was his engine and white lightnin’ was his load
And there was moonshine, moonshine,
To quench the devil's thirst
The lawmen swore they'd get him
But the devil got him first

Roarin’ out of Harlan, down by ___???
He shot the gap at Cumberland and screamed by Maynardsville (?)
With G-men on his tail lights
Roadblocks up ahead
That country boy took a road that even angels feared to tread

And there was thunder, ... (Chorus)

I forget the rest, but it ends as:

He left the road at ninety
That's all there is to say
The devil got the moonshine and the mountain boy that day

Strangers ain’t come down from Rocky Top
Recon they never will.

dirt’s too rocky by far.
That’s why all the folks on Rocky Top
Get their corn from a jar.

It was wrongly believed that the blue flame meant that it was safe to drink.

A common misconception. The test doesn't prove it is safe to drink, rather it proves it is good to drink.

Not only is the acronym ALE wierd, you have to understand just who “JOHN LEDFORD” is.

Ledford, is well known in the A_Sheville area was Shurrf John Lidfert. He is the son of long time political BOSS JIM LIDFERT.(KING fer LIFE)!!!

This I have learned from my sister-in-law who resides in the county owned and operated by Achmed Hugo Lidfert.

Locals say that in their memories back past the 1950’s the local sheriffs in that county had never killed a single person. During Lidfert’s tenure, his department killed two small girls, both under ten years of age. Beat a none to promising young fellow over thew head, threw him in the French Broad River with the advice swim if you can. Fishermen found him a month later after the cooters have dined on his remains.

Another young fella died at the home of a drug-lord after being pumped full of a pain killer by the drug lord’s daughter. Not much of anything ever happened about that except the young fella’s family had to bury him.

Shurrf Lidfert held three men in jail for over a year as suspects in a cold case double murder. Doing this on the word of a very unreliable witness. When the witness complained that he too was being held against his will, he died suddenly and was cremated before most of his family even knew he was dead.

Let’s see that is five murders/killings tied to him and/or his department. He gets promoted by the governoress for such good work.

Perhaps we can now surmise that former governor Mike Weasley may be under suspicion for another long past cold case murder. Google Nancy Morgan murder. After that conviction maybe ZERO will make Lidfert FBI Director.

>>>He should claim he was experimenting with alternative fuels and apply for a stimulus grant

He might have even gotten away with that but the law is the alternate fuel alcohol must be poisoned to make it undrinkable, thus to differentiate it from ‘shine. If you can consume it, it’s no go.

>>>Some of that shine is tasty..just take my word for this folks..it’s tasty.

I don’t drink but a few years ago some people brought a jug to a party. I sampled it figuring I’d never get another opportunity to see. In truth it was easier to drink then any conventional brown whiskey I had ever sampled. I didn’t expect that at all.
