Commandos Free 39 Hostages, Ending Militant Siege in Pakistan
VOA News ^ | October 11, 2009 | Ayaz Gul

Military officials in Pakistan say a siege by militants near the army's headquarters in Rawalpindi, near the capital, Islamabad, is over.

Commando forces raided a building where militants were holding hostages just before dawn Sunday. Four militants, two soldiers and three hostages were killed during the operation. Another wounded militant was captured.

The violence began just before midday Saturday when a group of heavily armed militants in army uniforms tried to enter the Pakistani military headquarters. As soon as they were stopped at a main check post, the attackers lobbed several grenades and opened fire with automatic weapons on the soldiers there. A firefight erupted, instantly killing six soldiers and five militants.

The rest of the attackers fled during the firefight and took hostage more than 30 people, mostly security personnel, in a nearby building.

Pakistani Defence Forum poster has an idea:

these madirchod harami taliban must be killed and wiped out using chemical weapons Pakistan army should launch another full scale all out assualt and get medieval on the taliban and cut all thier heads and make pyramid of skulls like Mongols used to do to teach them lesson they will never ever forget

The sentiment, however, is not pro-America in the slightest. Many think we're involved.

“not pro-America in the slightest. Many think we’re involved.”

Yeah, we were. We trained some of their POS army to be commandos.

...Bravo, soldiers do their job, prisoners are rescued, enemy is eliminated, or incapacitated...

...IMO, press releases should avoid the use of words, Commandos, Hostages, Militants...

Why omit those distinguishing terms?

Well you certainly do not want Mongols to get their hands on Nuclear weapons. Many here in the West are ambivalent to the shear terror and destruction that was the Mongols. Started off by laying waste to Beijing. Then the Steppes. Then they laid waste to just about all of Islam.

Funny, I saw some brief commentary yesterday that ISI was involved.

“Militant Siege”

I was just thinking how “militant” is just a euphemism for terrorist.

They change their words, and they think they are changing public perceptions, but often it’s just a euphemism.

That’s why no one wants to be associated with “liberal”: it’s just a euphemism for LEFTIST.

They think they change the language, but they just create new euphemisms. Good.

I really agree and like the idea of the Pyramid of Skulls.

course, that would be unsupported in our congress.
( another good place for a pyramid...ha. Put the pyramid on the congressional floor as a visual reminder of WHY we need to back up our military.)

Yeah, after hmmmmmm...that’s too far, HA.

I guess my point is that we are so hypocritical about not clearly showing WHY we go to war, that there are really evil people in the world...it is now politically incorrect to use the media the way we did in WWII...to villify the evil.

re: there are really evil people in the world

That needs to be shouted from the highest rooftops over and over! Remember the crapola George W. Bush took when he dared refer to “the axis of evil” and then name three countries that fit the description. The Left went wild with their denunciations of using that kind of ‘hate speech’. to the Left any speech that expresses a truth they would rather not hear is hate speech. OTOH, they can say anything they want, true or not, and it's not hate speech if it expresses their beliefs.

Even Rod Serling couldn't have envisioned a world as upside down as today in America.

The why is easy. People know. What you and I think, I believe is that we should fight total war. Use what it takes to win the conflict as soon as possible. Saves lives all the way around and makes a better world.

The Marxist Propaganda Media is sedious and needs to be exposed. Sic the CIA on em and we would find out soon enough who their masters were. And this needs to be done. It wouldn't be PC but but it is a job that needs doing. And I completely agree they are evil. Their economic philosophy is theivery. From this basic evil all their other evils eminate. So how long have you been an ex hippy? And why did you change?

I have been an ‘ex hippy” for the same reason that David Horowitz changed from being a “lefty”...I saw that the Left , while many young people had admirable values of ‘being free and compassionate” the Left certainly wasn’t going to provide that in reality, and actually had become very violent and dictatorial....an ironic twist on the rock song... “new Boss, same as the Old Boss.

I demonstrated for equal rights and many changes that were needed (ie, victim rights groups, health clinics )....these actions mostly came from values we had all grown up with. And the young are always idealistic and very impatient and have the time to “march’ cause they don’t have their own responsibilities yet.

I never demonstrated against the VN war because I hated actual communists and was always very pro US military....had grown up with those values too.

The change came about in the early 80’s and by the 2004 election I was a confirmed conservative.

Thanks.

The sad thing many people don’t understand about conservatism is that it truly IS compassionate and truly DOES respect the downtrodden. Ironically, conservatism , not liberalism( ie Progressivism) is for freedom, dignity of the person, equality and compassion to those less fortunate and a betterment of all mankind.

The most major failing of conservatism has been , Reagen was the last one, to communicate this to young people.

You are so correct. Our core principles IMHO are liberty, morality, and personal responsibility. This will resonate with the young if the message is ever sent. Especially if it comes with a comparison of the "freedom" provided by the left. I suspect the reason our "Conservative Leaders" don't do this is twofold, either, they don't understand the founding principles of our nation or they are so craven they don't think it will "sell" and are afraid to espouse them. What a mess we are in.

The first few words that were used are actually VERY OFFENSIVE language in Urdu. Not something you would want to use on FR. Just FYI.

Offensive, but descriptively accurate if you’re not a big fan of the Taliban. They just had a 13 year old kid blow himself up.

If you actually read through the commentary including the ones in Urdu, by general consensus they consider the “madarchods” to be Americans and Indians. They dont actually view the Talibans from the same POV as you and I do.

Well, I would imagine many of the Pakistanis think the Americans are MF’ers, but if they think we were involved, that’s just sad. Not unexpected, though.
