Guam Sen. "Tolls" the US Military to receive War Reparations for what Japan did
Guam Legislature Bills Introduced (PDF file) ^ | 13 Oct 09

If I'm misinformed about any of this, please correct me.

First glance at this old topic:
Topic: "TAKE ACTION: We're Paying War Reparations to Guam for What Japan Did"

Here's the summary on the above. War reparations were claimed by the government of Guam and introduced through the "Guam World War II Loyalty Recognition Act".

The reasoning is that Guamanian people suffered from WW2 and the US already gave Japan a "get out of jail free card" after the war. Hence we treat it as any other internal crisis and pay for it with our tax dollars. I understand... really.

Yes it sound ridiculous that US taxpayers should pay for atrocities Japan comitted, so you would imagine anything that follows suit should be equally ridiculous.

Feast your eyes: http://www.guamlegislature.com/Bills_introduced_30th/Bill%20No.%20B253-30%20(COR).pdf

Sen. Judith Guthertz passed last friday a bill that would place 24-7 pay tolls in front of the islands military bases in order to recieve compensation for WW2 reparations.

12th October, she put the bill "on hold".

Ironically, the US military is Guam's second largest source of income. Guess what the first is?

Japanese Tourists.

I lived on Guam for over 4 years. Loved it and most of the locals were great people, but the island's Senators were never considered the brightest bulb in the box. Their non-voting representative to Congress usually ended up embarrassing themselves and the island itself when they move to DC.

Isn’t Guam where we are moving a Marine (USMC) operation from Okinawa? I think I saw where one or both of our Hawaii Senators rigged this so that they had to use Hawaii Union Labor for work on the base improvements.

Sounds like it would be more logical to place tolls at the off ramp from flights from Japan.

Guam is a U.S. territory, doesn’t their local legislation need to be approved by the U.S.? (States are sovereign, Guam is not.)
