Death of what is most distinctly human, huh? Fine. Let’s exterminate billions of people so we can go back to the pure human race as it existed before “consumerism”. Can’t see any flaw in that argument.

What an “f”ing fool! If all of the farmers in the world only produced enough to feed their own families (zero growth), billion of people would starve to death.

What an idiot! People WILL DIE without producing food and water! Where does the Archbishop of Canterbury think they come from - air?

Dr Rowan Williams said that economic growth based on consumer power had led to towards 'the death of what is most distinctively human'.

He's right, assuming dysentery is what is "most distinctively human."

well, my former cat, now deceased of old age, had that “most distinctively human” characteristic once, at 3 a.m., on the bed, less than 3 feet from my breathing mechanism..let me tell you, it woke me up faster than a bad dream about my ex-wife..

Talk about Al Gore's large house and carbon footprint.

What about Lambeth Palace, where the Archbishop of Canterbury lives, with a full staff of servants?

Quite a large carbon footprint, I'd say. Maybe he'd better tear it down and live in a tent.

Nah. The conservative Anglicans will go back to the Catholic church, the liberals will become Wiccans. I suspect that Queen Elizabeth harbors Catholic sentiments.

Tell the Bish to let us know when his church vaults have been emptied, his church properties sold, and his comfortable perks & income have been reduced to zero, ok?. THEN he can preach about the virtues of poverty.

You may have no idea how many so-called christian preachers, of all denominations, would gladly see millions of innocent men women and chldren starve in the dirt as the price of them feeling morally superior.

This demented fool is one of the more visible, but his buddies pimping poverty on the world are legion. Just consider for starters, the poisonous ideology that goes by the Orwellian name of "social justice," The most evil joke played on the poor since "welfare."

I wish he was as concerned about preaching the Gospel and obeying all that Christ commanded us, as he is trying to “save the planet.” The Archbishop has never contributed anything to the economy, but he doesn’t mind living off those that do. Maybe he should sell all the cathedrals and chapels in the UK and give the money to the poor? He hardly appears as someone that has ever experienced poverty.

Balderdash!!!!

When clerics embrace a watered-down version of the Christian faith, loaded with heresies and prostrating before modernism and islam, they have nothing to offer but politics. And even their politics is nonsense and delusion!!!!

Anyone under the jurisdiction of this pseudo-bishop and those like him is well-advised to run far, far away. Run all the way home—to Holy Orthodoxy!!!!

That last brings back a memory.

It was 1972 and my fraternity house always hosted a bunch of kids from a local orphanage for a Christmas party. That year, unfortunately, the brother playing Santa Claus happened upon a bottle of Beaujolais while getting changed. He polished it off, struggled into his outfit, and staggered down the stairs. Upon seeing the kids he called out “Ho F**king ho, kids!”, missed the bottom step and fell flat on his face. That was the last time the orphanage showed up at the house.

From then on he had a new nickname. Uninformed persons always thought that we called him “Ho” because his name was “Jose” ....

I'm sure he's only targeting the developed nations in this call. I can't imagine anyone demanding that Zambia or Suriname (or North Korea or Cuba) de-industrialize.

You know, today's lefties sound more and more like 1930's-era right wing Southern agrarians all the time.
