I post this because I want something fun. A sportscar, the open road, lots of soda pop, jerky, and the better half.
There are only a handful of drives outside the US. It says drives of the world, but it really means drives in the US.
Cool. I’ve done a few of those drives. The Road to Hana and finding the Red Sand Beach would be my most memorable. I also want to trace the old Route 66 from Chicago to LA. Thanks for posting.
We have traveled all over the world and some of the most beautiful sighs to behold are right here in the USA. Not to mention some of the most wonderful people you meet along the way.
God has truly blessed America from sea to shining sea.
BTW, I wish John Madden would write a book on what some of his favorite scenic drives he has experienced over the years in his RV driving from stadium to stadium.
Boy, I sure miss John! Hope he is enjoying retirement.
A few years ago I took the route from Vancouver up to Whistler along the coast. My self and some friends went there skiing so we rented a stretch limo to drive us up there. I sat with my back to the ocean all the way up and all the way back. Looking over the cliffside was just to creepy for me...........The wall of the mountains looked the same all the way there.
Brandywine Valley has been placed among the great rides.

Good point about Madden and the Maddenmobile. Thinking now of Charles Kuralt's "On the Road" segments, and John Steinbeck's "Travels with Charley" ...
I-80 across Nebraska; I-70 across Kansas; I-10 between Tallahassee and Pensacola.
Drives of a lifetime or just drives that seem to take a life time?
A GREAT place for a family vacation in the outdoors. Great hiking opportunities for novices (stretch yourselves) and experienced hikers. Climb Old Rag Mountain! You can do it! (Not for Mamby Pambies though).
Wildlife galore!! Lions & Tigers & Bears! Actually more like Deer & Skunk & Bears. Turkey Vultures (HUGE), don't let them puke on you.
A wonderful fall foliage trip. Shenandoah National Park, one of my favorite places on earth. You will agree.
The Fish Rock Road isn't even on the list. Drive it if you've got the chance. It's about 100 miles north of San Francisco cutting from SR128 to the PCH. It's got one of those warning signs at the start that says your car should be in good shape, which sort of reminded me of the Disney Space Mountain signs. It's about 20 miles long and takes a couple of hours. When I drove it I only passed three opposite direction vehicles. There are forests of huge redwoods (not quite the same as huge redwood forests), great mountain views and when you stop the car, turn off the engine, and get out of the car, you can listen to NOTHING. I once tried a road that "parallels" the Fish Rock Road about 20 miles closer to SF and was severely disappointed.

Go West, young man.
I remember being impressed by the Skyline Drive when I was younger. But then I did a USA tour with my family which included the Skyline Drive near the end. After driving around out west, everything on the Skyline Drive looked very small to me.

The authors have apparently never been to Taiwan.
don’t bring the sportscar to cape cod. it says you should drive rte. 6a from sandwich to truro, then take rte. 6 to provincetown, then go to chatham and follow rte. 28 back to the bourne bridge. i strongly suggest that you not do this. the trip along rte. 28 during tourist season will be one of the most unpleasant experiences of your entire life. traffic is nightmarish. national geographic says the whole trip will take 3-4 days. i think driving from harwichport to centerville will take that long in july.
for whatever reason, it also omits the cape cod league, which is an amateur baseball league around hyannis. wanna the upcoming todd helton, mark texiera, billy wagner, jason bay, david aardsma, and nomahhh? go to the ccbl games.
The Sea to Sky hgwy is GORGEOUS!! GEESH....JADED???
That is a beautiful drive.
It's sublime how those high jagged peaks arise bordering that flat plain.
Great image you've posted there.
imo, the trip across kansas on i-70 is one that every american should be made to take. take a good look, everybody, this is how you can live in chicago or miami and have food.
IT’S NOT THE OCEAN...IT’S PUGET SOUND.
how about the drive from monte vista to gunnison...or maybe from quebec to bangor....very nice !!!
Wow - I’m amazed at the number of them I’ve done.
Great picts there
Just after Memorial Day, wifey and I jumped up from Destin and headed toward Tallahassee.....it was terrifying fog the entire way; just kept tail lights in front of me and jammed along at the going 'rate' of 70 -- with fingers crossed that the guy behind me wasn't going 71.
In general, we had the trip of a lifetime - almost five weeks in the old Camry and 7000 miles covering the entire lower third of the US, coast to coast, as much on back roads as possible. Great fun.
Wow. That was some thick fog!
You forget one of the most memorable drives in America. I-94 from Fargo, ND to Billings, MT.
Done I-25/90 through Wyoming to Canada....and yeah, forgot about that till now.
Highway 1-A and 1-B out of Banff, Alberta Canada along the Bow River Valley
The Beartooth highway into Yellowstone and down to jackson Hole past the Tetons....An incredible memory with the wife and kids a year ago. Pure Heaven!

Rancher A: It takes me all doggone day to drive across my spread.
Rancher B: Yeah, I used to have a truck like that myself.
My family and I were fortunate enough to see that wonderful view this past summer. DH and I really enjoy road trips and got to have a great one this year.
One of my favorite drives is from the east exit of Yellowstone to Cody WY. Really interesting rock formations. We kept stopping to take pictures and the kids got really irritated with us. I think that is the last trip we will take with the teens, they are such party poopers
Me too. 181 and 221 in North Carolina have some very pretty stretches.
Also the Kankamagus Highway in New Hampshire.
Nice...but nothing compared to Gunnison to Paonia via Kebler Pass. Only open Memorial Day to late Sept 9ish- depends on the snow). Do it high Fall to see the aspens in full gold, and stop in Crested Butte for lunch. PS the road is dirt a good part of the way, but a sturdy car will do fine.
It IS the most beautful drive in the Rockies.
And that's my humble opinion.
Add I-20 between Midland/Odessa and Abilene to that list... lol good thing it is straight and flat...
ZZZzzzzZZZZzzzzzz....I
I want to die in my sleep like my uncle did, not screaming in panic like his passengers did.
Hey, if its water I'm looking over and I can't see the other side, then its an ocean regardless of what it sounds like.......
LOL!! I live overlooking Lake Michigan....I think of it as an acean too!! :)
Deer or Beef?
Thru Zion National Park....is a darn good drive.
It's jst as well, though, since one of the things that makes the drive through the Sand Hills of Nebraska so beautiful is the lack of people.
In Michigan?
I-40 through NM and AZ is a great road trip. Williams, AZ has restored a number of old buildings/motels in that town. Don't forget to stop at the Meteor Crater in AZ.
If you ever head to Germany, do yourself a favor and drive the Mosel River from Trier to Koblenz. From there, turn south along the Rhine, and you'll soon pass the Lorelei.
If you're hungry/thirsty, stop at the Konigsbacher brewery in Koblenz. Their restaurant has a great view of the Rhine, and they serve bock beer year round.
On average, I visited that brewery at least once a month. I drove from my apartment in Traben-Trarbach to Koblenz, and the drive always brightened my spirits.
I loved Germany...a beautiful country.
Either.
Downtown Chicago.
I just cut up some beef to jerky....
Marinating as I type.....
Deer season is upon us...and I will certainly jerky some deer meat soon....
FRegards,
Cornwall, England is beautiful. There are palm trees in some areas! The food is simple, hearty, and good: cream teas, Cornish pasties, local lamb and seafood. Pubs in every quaint village that serve home-brewed, high-octane ales.
I also like the Pacific Coast Highway in CA.
How did they miss Rt. 1 along the Maine coast? And Acadia National Park’s car loop...
The wife and I took that trip about six years ago. Not real interesting. Then two years ago we took the I-10 trip from Waco to El Paso (with one hundred miles off the main road) and found that one great. We are now taking the reverse trip on I-10 from Van Horn to Waco.
