According to the left, I am now a member of a treasonous group. I cheered when President Obama and his newly-made over milquetoast wife made asses of themselves in Copenhagen while attempting to wheedle the Europeans into granting Chicago the 2016 Olympics. And I gnashed my teeth when the Nobel Prize Committee decided to fete Obama with the Peace Prize. So that makes me an America-hater.
Why, oh why, do conservatives hate America so? asks Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post, singling out Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck as paradigmatic of the conservative hate America movement. The problem for the addlebrained Obama-rejectionists is that the president, as far as they concerned, couldnt possible do anything right, and thus is unworthy of any conceivable recognition.
No, Eugene, that isnt the problem for us. Heres our problem: President Obama seeks an America that resembles modern France far more than the free and prosperous America our forefathers fought and bled and died for. President Obamas America is not America: it is the United Nations writ large, with socialist redistribution at its center and moral relativism at its core. I root against President Obamas America, because I dont want to see it become a reality. And the only way it will become a reality is if President Obama is able to make it a reality.
And so I root for events that drain away Obamas political capital.
I rooted against him when he visited Copenhagen to bring the Olympics home. Thats not because I opposed the Olympics going to Chicago a Chicago Olympics would have been great. I rooted against Obama because if he had achieved his goals with regard to the Olympics, too many Americans would have thought that such success somehow legitimated his agenda here at home an agenda totally at odds with all notions of Constitutionality, limited government, and liberty of enterprise and thought. By winning in Copenhagen, he would have raised his chances of ramming through his domestic and foreign policy programs and thats the last thing I want to see.
I was enraged when Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. Thats not simply because I think he didnt deserve it, though he clearly doesnt. Its because the Peace Prize was just another sop to Obamas inflated ego. It was a blatant attempt by the world community to hand Obama a personal consolation prize for his fiasco in Copenhagen. It was their attempt to screw his courage to the sticking place, to reinforce his self-inflicted perception that he is a world leader destined to direct America toward a more global future. The Nobel Committee gave Obama the Peace Prize because he has already demonstrated real commitment to undermining American strength on the world stage, and they want to see him follow through on that commitment.
In short, I dont root against President Obama because I hate America. I root against President Obama because I hate his vision for America.
It is those like President Obama who see America as a dark and dangerous place that requires earth-shaking change along European lines. It is those like President Obama who feel that Americans are nothing special and that America is nothing special. As Obama himself put it: I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism. In other words, America is not exceptional its just because we live here that we feel it is. And the American people are not exceptional they are merely Greeks or Brits or Russians or Chinese or Frenchmen born within our borders, with values no better or worse than their foreign compatriots.
Obamas belief in Americas unexceptionalism -- his view that Americas government, not her people, is the formative force in her values; his view that the American people bear the stain of racial, sexual, and military guilt; his view that America must abandon her scrupulous adherence to equality of opportunity in favor equality of result, traditional morals in favor of alternative ethics, and liberty of enterprise in favor of redistributionism that set of beliefs is antithetical to what makes America great.
So yes, I hate Obamas America. Because Obamas America isnt America its the European view of America, implemented from high office. Opposing the total redefinition of America isnt anti-American its patriotic. And opposing those, like Obama, who push for that drastic redefinition, isnt hating America its fighting in favor of the America that ended slavery, built the greatest economic empire in world history, and liberated tens of millions around the globe. If that isnt patriotic, I dont know what is.
Very, very well said, Mr. Shapiro.
I love this country. Zero’s failures in the political arena give me hope that it can be preserved. Therefore, I hope he fails.
Yeah, what Shapiro said.
Obama has not failed at anything politically on the domestic front. He is implementing his agenda, which is to destroy America and remake it in his image. At what has he failed?
And there are those of us that will continue to withhold
our talents until the fool is gone.
Galted out so to speak.
While I agree with Mr. Shapiro’s essay, it seems to me that people are still dancing around the main issue. That is, Obama is working to replace our economy with socialist principles through Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals and others that I do not know.
I am not expressing my point very well, but hopefully you understand what I mean.
Great article, but I can't agree with that part. BO was attempting to fill up a trough with money for his crooked degenerate pig friends. One could literally see Daly salivating at the prospect.
Milquetoast, good description.
Obama’s America is a bunch of weasely yes men, pissing their pants every time something comes up. It is full of cowering and graft. It is evil and worthless. The America I love is proud of itself despite our shortcomings. God Bless America!
Obama, his handlers and minions hate my country and its Christian foundation. They are enemies to the America envisioned by our Founding Fathers.
“What do you mean “Wow”? That should be said every day till the one is gone from memory.”
It isn’t “the one” it is the democrat party, it is their unions, their lock on education, it is their judges, and their media. We have to end all of it or they will win eventually. Hopefully, we can do this through peaceful means, but I am losing hope in that.
Gotta agree - WOW - that is exactly how I feel.
I agree with you in part. The economic destruction is proceeding nicely and God forbid, we may get some iteration of this health care mess.
But he is running into trouble on image and PR fronts and is beginning to be seen as a fool and push over on the international relations front. This will weaken him.
He is beginning to be mocked by the left and angering some of them. Yes, they have no where to go, but ugly things they say about him also weaken him.
As he is weakened, his opposition takes strength and his erstwhile but self interested supporters get nervous. One or two of the real opposition are even on our side. LOL. So it all helps.
I hope you are right. But complaints about Obie from the left will evaporate at election time.
Yes. As I said, they don’t have anywhere to go. But their numbers are not overwhelming.
We have a chance.
He’s in good company. I love America but I hate this Obamanation. I am a patriot that happens to think we need to fix this problem. Some how some way.
Yes, indeed, but we have a problem with a little group called the American people who disagree with us.
I wasn’t enraged over Obama getting the Peace Prize; I had the best laugh (laughed myself silly) that I’ve had during these dreary 9 months. It was so incredibly absurd.
I suspect that it will eventually become the “Peace in our Times” Prize.
I thought that I had somehow picked up a browser hijacker that had taken me to a fake-headline page, seriously.
“But complaints about obie from the left will evaporate at election time.”
Yup. Family feuds don’t count at election time.
(Even adolescent psychotic families stick together.)
