SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California first lady Maria Shriver says she's sorry for breaking a state law that requires drivers to use hands-free devices while talking on cell phones.

The celebrity Web site TMZ.com posted two photographs and a video Tuesday showing Shriver holding a phone to her ear while she was behind the wheel. That prompted Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to write about it on Twitter, where he said "there's going to be swift action."

On Wednesday, Shriver said she will donate her favorite old cell phone to a program that helps domestic violence. She added: "That's my version of swift action with a higher purpose."

Well,OK, Hunny. I'll pardon you this time.. but..

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger went into "Terminator" mode after his wife Maria Shriver was caught breaking the state's car cell phone laws. California's First Lady was twice snapped by entertainment website TMZ with a cell phone held up to her ear, in clear breach of a 2008 law which requires drivers in the state to use hands-free devices. So, she’s sorry. What’s the fine for everyone else?

Maybe she made a cash donation too. It’s not as if this isn’t way below chump change for her.

How about apologizing for what your old man has helped do to California.

“...donating my favorite old cell phone...”

Huh. She’s just like me. Not sure I could give up my favorite old cell phone though. Its place on the shelf next to my favorite old 8-track tape would look awful empty.

Suspend her driver’s license for 6 months.

Make her pay chump change for a chauffeur.

I understand that the “studies” (reputable insurance companies) have shown that yakking on handsfree isn’t significantly better for driver attentiveness than yakking on handheld.

Someone would have to cite her and take her to court. I doubt the media pix would suffice unless the photog showed up in court and vouched for them.

LOL. It’s $20 for first offense, $50 each additional. Maria Shriver was photographed on three separate occasions: $120.

Don't you just love liberals? I mean they get caught red handed doing wrong by breaking laws they themselves or their party/family helped to enact. Laws think think apply to those other people. Then they try to put everyone else on a guilt trip about a completely unrelated matter to make themselves look better. That is my version showing how those in high places are Hypocrites.

So would talking to a passanger. Have you ever seen people that when driving they feel they have to keep looking at the person they are talking to instead of the road? They haven't outlawed talking in a car. Yet! Give them time and they'll have a camera for catching it also.

It would look better if she paid the fine. Or donated the fine money to a food bank or charity. But she is a part of the Kennedy clan & therefore the law looks the other way & they didn't catch her. She ought to learn a lesson from this & obey laws like the rest of us do.

What’s the punishment for people who don’t have diplomatic immunity (as citizens of Camelot)?
