Obama loosens missile technology controls to China
WashingtonTimes ^ | Thursday, October 15, 2009 | Bill Gertz

President Obama recently shifted authority for approving sales to China of missile and space technology from the White House to the Commerce Department -- a move critics say will loosen export controls and potentially benefit Chinese missile development.

"It's as though Commerce's mishandling of missile-tech transfers to China in the 1990s never happened," said Mr. Sokolski, a former Pentagon proliferation specialist. "But it did. As a result, we are now facing much more accurate, reliable missiles from China."

Mr. Sokolski said he expects the U.S. government under the new policy to again boost Chinese military modernization through "whatever renewed 'benign' missile technology" is approved.

"It was foolish for us to do this in the 1990s and is even more dangerous for us to do now," he said.

I wonder if Hussein did it for money (like Clinton) or if he is an ideologically motivated traitor.

Obama and the Democrats are giving missile technology to China in exchange for some other support from the Chicoms(secret funds, etc). The Chinese will then provide the technology to North Korea. This happened before in the 1990’s with the Clinton's and Johnny Chung, etc.

The Year of the Rat and Betrayal by Bill Gertz give more inormation on this. The MSM covered all this up to protect the Democrats.

&*)&(^)&*^&*)^0!!!!!

This Administration is )^(^%$%^$ clueless!

During the 1990's, China violated EVERY SINGLE NON-PROLIFERATION TREATY IT SIGNED, including it's own White Papers. It violated the MTCR, the NPT, the CWC, and IAEA safeguards.

Moreover, it transferred this technology to North Korea and Iran, both of which have become a threat to the United States.

What they couldn't buy through the lax Clinton Commerce Department, they STOLE. Bambi is WORSE than Clinton, who signed waivers to allow China access to technology typically prohibited to them.

TRAITOR!

Here’s the actual beginning of the article: (more at link)

President Obama recently shifted authority for approving sales to China of missile and space technology from the White House to the Commerce Department — a move critics say will loosen export controls and potentially benefit Chinese missile development.

The president issued a little-noticed “presidential determination” Sept. 29 that delegated authority for determining whether missile and space exports should be approved for China to Commerce Secretary Gary Locke.

Commerce officials say the shift will not cause controls to be loosened in regards to the export of missile and space technology.

Eugene Cottilli, a spokesman for Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security, said under new policy the U.S. government will rigorously monitor all sensitive exports to China.

The presidential notice alters a key provision of the 1999 Defense Authorization Act that required that the president notify Congress whether a transfer of missile and space technology to China would harm the U.S. space-launch industry or help China’s missile programs.

The law was passed after a late-1990s scandal involving the U.S. companies Space Systems/Loral and Hughes Electronics Corp.

Both companies improperly shared technology with China and were fined $20 million and $32 million, respectively, by the State Department after a U.S. government investigation concluded that their know-how was used to improve China’s long-range nuclear missiles.

Section 1512 of the 1999 law requires the president to certify to Congress in advance of any missile equipment or technology exports to China that the export will not harm the U.S. space-launch industry and that “missile equipment or technology, including any indirect technical benefit that could be derived from such export, will not measurably improve the missile or space launch capabilities of the People’s Republic of China.”

The new policy appears aimed at increasing U.S.-China space cooperation, which has been limited since the Loral and Hughes case. It follows the Chinese military’s test of an anti-satellite missile that produced potentially dangerous space junk after the missile destroyed a Chinese weather satellite in a January 2007 test.

Unfortunately, a lot of today's "proliferation" simply comes from the fact that the majority of the folks that know how to build this stuff are no longer Americans.

Just take a stroll through any University engineering department.

The Chinese pump out over 500,000 scientists and engineers a year, whereas the U.S. pumps out 500,000 native-born lawyers, psychologists, and journalism majors.

"why are Chinese products such crap?"

Not all products "Made in China" are crap, but I would agree that a lot of them are.

Many of the "crap" products that are Made In China are outsourced manufacturing of non-Chinese companies (in many cases, American). The Brand ultimately bears the responsibility for quality control issues. The Brand is happy to sell you crap if you are willing to pay for it.

“A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely. His sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men.” Cicero, speech to the Roman Senate

After Clinton sold critical missile guidance technology to China for campaign money, now Bozo is giving them what little Clinton didn't sell.

And all the while Bozo is planning to cut our own missile arsenal, not just to the bone, but to way below the bone. All of which could possibly reduce the risk to China sufficiently for the Chinese communists, (remember, they're still doctrinaire COMMUNISTS) to risk launching a nuclear first strike that could possibly overwhelm our very limited missile defenses and take out whatever few nuclear missiles Bozo hasn't dismantled before then.

No matter what China or Russia decide to do in the next few years, as long as Bozo is in office we're in danger of a world of hurt coming from almost any point on the globe where America and Americans are hated.

Democrats are either traitors or they’re insane.....IMO they’re both.

When Clinton did this as a pay off for Red Chinese cash toward his election, I knew it would result in a great increase in Chinese Military capabilities. Though a part of me ignorantly hoped I was wrong and that “our” government officials knew what they were doing and had our best interests at heart...and would never do anything that would harm our security in the slightest. WRONG! Thanks to these corrupt treasonous scum, prior to Clinton they hadn’t the missile technology to accurately target US cities, now they do! And now Obama wants to boost the Red Chinese’ Military capabilities even more. Unbelievable!

They sold most of our production capabilities to the Red Chinese. They sold our debt to the Red Chinese with options to buy US properties. They light up the Empire State Building in the colors of the Red Chinese flag to honor the anniversary of their Communist Revolution. And they give them the Technology to kill us.

What does it take to be charged with treason anymore?

Basically, the Hughes participation was a review of a failed Chinese attempt to launch a Loral Satellite into orbit. Hughes engineers reviewed the rocket design and launch procedures and made valuable recommendations to improve their reliability. When the Pentagon found out they referred the case to Justice as an illegal export of defense technology, in this case dual use technology.

I fear the Chinese more than the Russians and the last thing we need is to teach them what we know about military technology.
