The Tough-Love Dictator of My Dreams
TIME ^ | Oct 2009 | Joel Stein

Posted on 10/15/2009 11:22:59 AM PDT by swarthyguy

I'm all for Liberty but I'd sacrifice some rights for a tough love leader and a law against Big Gulps.

......And people love a good dictator — or at least get over their hatred of one pretty quickly — provided that the dictator doesn't put up too many pictures of himself. We instinctively object to new forms of paternalism, but we also quickly accept them:

......President Obama should probably get a little bit dictatorial up in here. He's the only person in the U.S. unaware that we elected him dictator, giving him both houses of Congress and the major television networks whenever he wants them.

.....In fact, we need a dictator to do all kinds of things. I want a law making .....

Sez he's for Liberty but he's a Liar.

This one hit a nerve; this is one of the most scariest, depressing and nauseating columns in my memory.

Along with Thomas Friedman's paean to the Dictatorial Politburo and his verbal fellating of the Chinese Communist party, this one makes me apprehensive, to say the least, when this yearning for a American Dictator seems to have become entrenched in the Modern Urban Male, with the educated literati opinionati openly pining for a Totaliatarian Society.

Just WoW! Not in a good way.

Read this last week and was stunned.

Shouldn’t have been but still.

Suppose this may have been the same tone used by the literati who were wowed and wooed by Stalinists back when.

Dictators have no friends. The people are sacrifices to them to be thrown out for whatever maniac whim they dream up at the moment.

I refuse to read Time, and have for 20 years. I am very reluctant to click on its website. The magazine’s Left-wing bias has sent it circling the drain, and it is making a heroic publicity effort, with the help of Google News and the MSM, to survive. I don’t want to participate in that effort. I want it to go bankrupt and fail.

Stein is a jack...! This is jaw dropping even for a liberal. We (the media?) elected a dictator?

Rats act like they are fearing a conservative backlash. This means they do not yet think they have managed to Acorn the vote safely away from angry conservatives.

Well, that was a mouth full. I suggest he make himself Barry’s person slave since he;s so keen on giving up his liberties. However, we all understand he’s speaking in royal terms...you not him.

Fair enough, and I can’t recommend a piece which would make you wanna pull your hair out, I don’t have any so that’s not an issue with me.

But for insight into the mindset of the urban media elite, it’s an illuminating piece in a dire manner.

>> jaw dropping

No kidding. Grabbed the magazine for a quick read thru, started this piece, wanted to skip it, did, went back and read it to my great chagrin as I had anticipated from the first few lines.

Just had to share it.

I am glad you did — we need to see what these jerks in the media think. It just shocks me to no end to read this.

He’s for dictatorship until they take his pen away....then he’s for the Constitution

It’s satire. Big magazines don’t put this at the end of sentences </s>

At least there is some outrage here.

I bet if I showed this to some around here, BostonMetro aka Obamastan, they would completely agree, which is also scary consider that my contemporaries and old buds and spouses are thinking in this fashion.

To all previous posters: try reading Stein’s essay as sarcasm. Wanting “a ban on guns not used for hunting” is over the line even in sarcasm, but most of the essay is... well, not *funny*, McGee, but a pretty good upside-down look at BHO. Just sayin’.

I’m sure he saw things the same in 2000 and 2004, when Bush had a Republican congress....
