Speculation is mounting that the story of six-year-old American boy Falcon Heene who was feared to have floated away on a home-made weather balloon was a hoax organised by his family to gain publicity.

I’ll give Shepard Smith credit: He did say that the boy was likely hiding under his own bed.
Shep would know. He’s been under the bed before.

What do you expect the father to say if it was really a hoax? “Yeah, we tricked you guys good with our false police report, ha ha ha”?

This wacky family named their son “Falcon.” Wonder if they wanted him to soar in the sky.
I agree- this remark to me meant the kids were playing at putting on a show, not that the parents planned this.
Reminds me of stunts my siblings and I might have done when we were kids. Especially if we saw Disney movies like “Up”

They just happen to be videoing at the moment the balloon 'accidentally' gets away. ...the hubby is acting all mad and the wife is seen with a big smile, almost laughing as the balloon takes off.
And dad seems all too eager to be in front of as many cameras as possible.

Fox new poll asking if the Heenes should pay for emergency services. 51% say yes, 43% say maybe; yes if an investigaton shows it to be a hoax. Public opinion is not good!
A balloon that size could’nt lift more than 10lbs. The father knew that, therefore the kid could not be in the balloon, and the father held back that info. Total Hoax!
My opinion:
Balloon Boy is a hoax.
Balloon boy dad will be sued by government agencies inolved in the search.
Balloon boy dad will have a book written about him and a made for TV movie, where he will have the income to pay off the lawsuits.
Balloon boy dad will be charged with misdemeanor filing of false police report.
Balloon boy story will occupy all of the weekend news shows and generate ratings boosts.
Balloon boy story will detract from the real story of Obama taking over our healthcare, which Obama will highly appreciate.
I agree something about all of this is off. And the father seems like a real jerk.
After I found out that this family is going to be on Wife Swap it just makes this whole affair seem suspicious. The family should pay all expenses for the emergency services that had to waste their time on this crap.
Who names their poor kid Falcon?
It is easy to work things out in hindsight. At that time the vital information did not seem to be given out by the family. This was to the effect, that was the whole thing enveloping the helium gas? It was that sort of bucket shape at the bottom that still (but maybe has), not been identified properly. A story was put out that a basket had been attached to the balloon. Even someone thought they saw something fall. An immense effort was made by search and rescue people. If it was part of the whole thing, then the helium would have escaped on any entry.
Lastly, I heard Glen Beck call the man who rushed in with a spade as a "dufus". I presume the man wanted to puncture the balloon so it could not be dragged by any wind. Beck is one of those who stands by. Mark that I do not mention any favourable political views he has. Just that he knows all- in retrospect.
The male parent is a combination turd & attention whore, the female parent is a compliant enabler, and the children are screwed up for life.
