Ask David Horowitz: What Do We Need To Know About Maoism?

David Swindle Asks:

The news just came out that White House communications director Anita Dunn is influenced by Communist dictator Mao Tse Tung. This will no doubt prompt further investigations and challenges regarding Dunn's political views.

I recall from Radical Son that when you were still a Marxist and first became acquainted with Black Panther leader Huey P. Newton one of your initial disagreements was over the merits of Maoism. Even as a Marxist you were opposed to Maoism. What do people need to know about this particular school of Marxism? How should we respond differently than if Dunn had picked Lenin, Guevara, or Trotsky?

David Horowitz responds:

Mao is the greatest mass murderer in human history. Jon Halliday and his wife who have written the definitive biography of Mao estimated that he killed 70 million people.

In the Sixties only the Progressive Labor Party, a minority sect derided by everybody else was Maoist. Dunn's comment is a reflection of the continuing intellectual degradation of the left. There are plenty of Maoists teaching in universities however. The radical caucus of the Modern Language Association (professors of literature) is run by Maoist Barbara Foley.

Just to add some direct links courtesy of Mr. Horowitz’s VERY valuable
resource/research website “Discover The Networks”:

Leftwing Monsters

ZEDONG MAO
(or “Mao” as billions of people that didn’t get killed by
his policies know him!!!)
http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2073

Anybody who hasn’t read “Mao, The Unknown Story” should do so.
It’s a lengthy book, but the real pearls are stunning. Such as the
author’s reasoned argument that the one political class that Mao
injured the most was “the peasantry”.
As he took and sold their rice on the world market to get currency to
be able to pay for getting Communist China “The Bomb”.
So that the peasants that didn’t starve could rejoice with Mao
over the new “superpower” status of Communist China.

When I saw an aging hippy (probably an academic) confront the authors
on “BookTV” (C-Span2; weekends) that they weren’t being fair to
Mao, who was “a great man”...then I realized the authors were probably
dead on.
Along with reading that Dubya was spotted carrying the book.

Say what you want to about Mao, but China has owned the US for a while now.

[NOTE: This is not a "yes" vote for Mao. It's just a statement of economic fact.]

“Say what you want to about Mao, but China has owned the US
for a while now.”

I can’t recall the title/author, but within a few years there was
a book that had that sort of thesis...
that Mainland/Communist China has changed the USA...
A LOT MORE
than the USA has changed Mainland/Communist China.

I tend to agree with that book!!!

You have identified the flawed failed thesis which led otherwise patriotic conservatives to support the destruction of America’s industrial base:

That thesis was, that “free trade” with a fascist regime, would somehow magically transform it to a democracy.

What happens, we now know. Is the fascist regime becomes stronger and richer, and it is the democracy which is damaged.
