Its 2009 and the 2012 presidential contest is underway, a full three years early too early if youre a typical person who hears 2012 and thinks of the apocalypse, and not early enough if youre a political nerd who gets the excitement from elections that he should be getting from football games. Obviously, I fall into the latter category. Sports always seemed to me like an inconsequential exercise in watching big guys run, fall down, and throw stuff.
Give it up for Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, also known in his true ghetto fashion as T-Paw, who telegraphed his intentions by starting his Freedom First PAC while everyone else plays coy. This move was hardly unexpected, as he had declined to run for a third term as governor, gave a well-received speech at the Values Voters Summit, and appeared so often as a McCain surrogate during the last election that sometimes I thought he was the one running for president. After McCains defeat, Pawlenty appeared anywhere and everywhere, including several appearances on MSNBC, seen as the likable conservative that even Rachel Maddow didnt mind conversing with.
Pawlenty was smart to make an obvious move toward running for president early. As time goes on, people will pay more and more attention to every step that more high-profile potential candidates like Palin, Romney, Gingrich, and Huckabee take. He had to do something so that his name would be mentioned in every 2012 discussion and he succeeded, even scoring the top headline on the Drudge Report. Now his every move will be closely followed, generating a steady stream of coverage that will be necessary for him to get his name recognition up...

Sizing up Pawlenty: Stiff, RINO, milquetoast, establishment sellout, more of the same.
That about covers it and that’s about all we need to know.
Mac II
Not in a million years will I forgive that traitorous act.
Amen,brother!!
Isn’t he a RINO and pussy both?
Well, when you get right down to it, can a guy named “Tim Pawlenty” be a real man? I know, it’s not his fault. But it’s kind of telling.
In other words, he lacks conviction and is plentiful with self promotion.
Well, signing and doing are two different things.
He did give Minnesota the right to carry. (open and concealed)
For this achievement I must give him a lot of credit considering the political foe he faced in achieving it.
He’s a RINO. Do we need to know more?
I'm sure that Pawlenty is a nice guy and was a good, center-right Governor of a liberal state who would be more than welcome to run any state. But if he doesn't have the passion, that "fire in the belly," then he's basically a non-starter. Experience, and the traditional background to be President, as we can all point to Obama, has been thrown out the window, and voters aren't going to accept that same old warm milk statism where the candidates talk about "improving" Medicare and creating "green" jobs.
My support, donations, and vote goes to Governor Palin.
You got it.
Yawn.
Weak ... RINO!
If anything, we could have used his help making it even easier to get a carry license, or even helped push through a measure restoring us our FULL RKBA under the Second Amendment.
He's a RINO. Full stop. Period.
Where did you find argument with your mindset?
It's a hot button topic with me. Sorry...
Sadly enough it is the trend of the GOP in total of late.
Where was Pawlenty when the Democrats were stealing the US Senate seat in Minnesota? Now he has hired on a number of former McCain staffers?
That’s enough info for me, he is unsat.
Jorge Bush, Juan McCain & now PawPaw - all RINOs. And all losers who betrayed America.
Put me down as a Pawlenty fan. There is something genuine and likable about him. He may not always be a “check-list” Republican, but I do see him doing well.
