White House Vs. Fox: Chairman Mao (ANITA DUNN RESPONDS) (VIDEO)
The New York Times ^ | 10-16-09 | Sheryl Gay Stolberg

The war of words between the White House and Fox News is intensifying — and getting personal.

* * * * * *

In an e-mail message, Ms. Dunn said, “My source for the Mao quote was actually the late Lee Atwater, either in an article or bio I read after the 1988 election. Now that I’ve revealed this I hope I don’t get Keith Olbermann angry with me. Let it be noted that I also quoted Mother Teresa, but no one is accusing me of being a saint!”

Exactly unless she can show Lee Atwater also said Mao was one of his favorite political philosophers, she has no defense. If she can show Lee Atwater admiringly quotes Mao, then she has a weak defense.

That’s quite an image. The idea behind it would also make a great bumper sticker: “If Che Guevara were alive today, he’d be wearing an Obama T-shirt”.

Soooo...she often turns to Lee Atwater for her political compass? I thought she said that about Mao.
Maybe I was distacted by the way she talks.

It never ceases to amaze me that the left, which supposedly “gets” the Internet, continues to act as if it doesn’t even exist.

Just how many nanoseconds did this commie ditz think would go by before her own exact words are thrown back at her? Her new statement is 100% belied by the plain words of her original statement.

Sauce for the goose.

You are right!!! The way she constantly licks her lips really reminded me of the Joker. Coincidence?

Is it just me, or did her constant and weird lip licking remind anyone else of The Joker in that last Batman movie?

The lip licking was a great observation. Sounds like she went to Barney Frank’s speech therapist.

Just added my comment hope every one else will also;

“So if Beck is wrong how come she has not called his direct hot line?
Oh Ms. Dunn, since Fox is as you say the “research arm of the Republican party” what are the other stations.then...HUM let me see, Pro Democrat voice only....
To all you FOX bashers, you have had the media coverage slant for so long ....now that there is an alternative to the ABC, CBS,NBC,CNN only way a person is supposed to think propaganda, you are upset and think it is all lies. Maybe you should do a little research on your own instead of what you have been feed for years. Beck just might be correct! Scary thought to you isn’t it. “

She's the villain for the next Batman movie: The Smacker.

The issue isn’t the source of the quote. The issue is that she said Mao was her favorite Political Philosopher.

Her response was a complete red herring.

She also doesn’t mention Lee Atwater at all in her speech, so he is irrelevant to the issue.

Ms Dunn, now you say the quote didn’t really illustrate your philosophy. So what you are is even worse - someone who quotes a communist mass murderer to appear “cool”.

My gut feeling was right when I first heard her, and I posted this quote from CS Lewis’s “Great Divorce”:

“Do you really think there are no sins of intellect?”

“There are indeed, Dick. There is hide-bound prejudice, and intellectual dishonesty, and timidity, and stagnation. But honest opinions fearlessly followed—they are not sins.”

“I know we used to talk that way. I did it too until the end of my life when I became what you call narrow. It all turns on what are honest opinions.”

“Mine certainly were. They were not only honest but heroic. I asserted them fearlessly. When the doctrine of the Resurrection ceased to commend itself to the critical faculties which God had given me, I openly rejected it. I preached my famous sermon. I defied the whole chapter. I took every risk.”

“What risk? What was at all likely to come of it except what actually came—popularity, sales for your books, invitations, and finally a bishopric?”

“Dick, this is unworthy of you. What are you suggesting?”

“Friend, I am not suggesting at all. You see, I know now. Let us be frank. Our opinions were not honestly come by. We simply found ourselves in contact with a certain current of ideas and plunged into it because it seemed modern and successful. At College, you know, we just started automatically writing the kind of essays that got good marks and saying the kind of things that won applause.

When, in our whole lives, did we honestly face, in solitude, the one question on which all turned: whether after all the Supernatural might not in fact occur? When did we put up one moment’s real resistance to the loss of our faith?”

Is there anyone with medical training who can explain her frequent and very unusual tongue flicking? It’s really very odd.

That vile woman was clearly trying to establish a moral equivalence between Mao and Mother Teresa. Her simplistic version of Mao’s “taking control of China” neglected to mention how Mao was helped by Owen Lattimore and Communists in our State Dept. like John Service and even Soviet Agents like Deputy Secretary of The Treasury Harry Dexter White. People very much like Anita Dunn.

Every blog, every news organization is now desperately digging to find some link between Lee Atwater and Mao.

Here is the illustration of how our MSM licks the backside of liberals and works hard for their defense while accepting wiki articles at face value about Rush.

can anyone explain why Media Matters..who dug up quotes from Republicans about Mao.. couldn’t seem to find one from Atwater?

“Bush recommended Mao bio to adviser Karl Rove”

Uh, reading about Mao and his rise to power and his killing sprees is not the same thing as thinking Mao is your favorite philosopher.

The “quote” is not the problem. Who cares who she stole it from. The problem is that she stated that Mao is her favorite philosopher.
