The Rev. Al Sharpton is ready for a Rush to judgment.
The civil rights leader, typically impervious to insults, said Saturday that he will sue Rush Limbaugh for defamation unless he gets an apology from the right-wing radio host.
Sharpton was outraged by a Limbaugh op-ed piece in The Wall Street Journal that blamed him for the 1991 Crown Heights riot and a 1995 killing spree at a Harlem store.
"I am definitely going to prove he makes reckless, unaccountable statements," Sharpton said. "Which is why he was forced out of buying an NFL team in the first place."
Limbaugh lashed out at Sharpton over the right-wing radio host's failed attempt to purchase a piece of the St. Louis Rams. Sharpton, among others, blasted Limbaugh's bid for NFL ownership.
Limbaugh replied in his op-ed piece that Sharpton "played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot ... and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot."
Seven people were killed by a gun-toting man who set a fire in the Freddie's Fashion Mart. A Jewish scholar was stabbed to death in Crown Heights three hours after a 7-year-old black boy was fatally struck by a car.
Slanderous, according to Sharpton, who denied both allegations.
"He doesn't have the right to lie and accuse people of crimes," Sharpton said. "He wants to criminalize me.
"That's what got him in trouble. He tried to criminalize the NFL players, calling them Crips and Bloods."
The hard-line conservative also mentioned Sharpton's wrongful accusations in the Tawana Brawley case, and the reverend's "blind hatred" - although Sharpton took no issue with those remarks.
Limbaugh was unavailable for comment Saturday.
Sounds like somebody can dish it out but can’t take it, eh?
(Except the stuff about Sharpton is true!)
Pre-emptive strike. Sharpton and his lawyers realize that Rush has grounds for a lawsuit for damages against him.
Paybacks are hell.
Only you can lie right Al??
It is time to start dealing with tyrants like Sharpton, who may be the first domino to fall.
Hey, Al. Tawana lied.
When was this editorial written?

It would be interesting to see how many other writers have blamed Al Sharpton.
Go to it race you race hustling pimp.
Let him try.
Sharpton actually REPEATED the lie that Rush said anything about the NFL being between the Bloods and the Crips.
Oh man, Rev’rund, BRING IT.
Al better shut up while he can! He is heading for really deep water!
Do it Al, I dare ya.
Reverend Al is more full of crap than an outhouse.
I hope Rush drags this pig into court and sues him until he squeals. Maybe we can get lucky and Rush sues him into silence.
Karma is a bitch, Al.
Oh, I WISH this would go to court!
Bring it on, race baiter, you might not like the result.
“Al better shut up while he can! He is heading for really deep water!”
Sadly, when Al ran for president, I thought he was the best of the Dem’s candidates.
1991: A Hasidic Jewish driver in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights section accidentally kills Gavin Cato, a 7-year-old black child, and antisemitic riots erupt. Sharpton races to pour gasoline on the fire. At Gavin’s funeral he rails against the “diamond merchants” — code for Jews — with “the blood of innocent babies” on their hands. He mobilizes hundreds of demonstrators to march through the Jewish neighborhood, chanting, “No justice, no peace.” A rabbinical student, Yankel Rosenbaum, is surrounded by a mob shouting “Kill the Jews!” and stabbed to death.
1995: When the United House of Prayer, a large black landlord in Harlem, raises the rent on Freddy’s Fashion Mart, Freddy’s white Jewish owner is forced to raise the rent on his subtenant, a black-owned music store. A landlord-tenant dispute ensues; Sharpton uses it to incite racial hatred. “We will not stand by,” he warns malignantly, “and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business.” Sharpton’s National Action Network sets up picket lines; customers going into Freddy’s are spat on and cursed as “traitors” and “Uncle Toms.” Some protesters shout, “Burn down the Jew store!” and simulate striking a match. “We’re going to see that this cracker suffers,” says Sharpton’s colleague Morris Powell. On Dec. 8, one of the protesters bursts into Freddy’s, shoots four employees point-blank, then sets the store on fire. Seven employees die in the inferno. Jeff Jacoby, 2/23/2003
Actually Sharpton is the guy who ought to be nervous. He is really ripe to be sued off this latest episode of lies.
Aint diversity just grand; a tune played by Al Sharptone and his Ethnic Pimps, while don the race shuffle.
Al is what Black Rappn is always talking about; just bein one oda brothers don and puttum up as fast as he can. Although, I am sure Rush will stuff Als three pounds of worthless human debris in a two pound brown bag, demonstrating one fact; That Al is not worth putting in a three pound bag...mmm-mmm-mmmh.
I don’t think Rush is worried.....
Al is hoping for an OJ jury trial.
Bring it on, Al. One of the two of you is a racist and it isn’t El Rushbo.
On Rush’s show the other day former NFL Ken Hutcherson called Jackson and Sharpton ‘race pimps’. Then he was the O’Reilly segment with Juan Williams. He was fuming!
I think Limbaugh’s lawyers would love the chance to get Al under oath. Maybe find out how Al financially supports hisself...
Reverend my Ass!! sheeeze what a mo!
“reckless ,,, unaccountable statements”
Isn’t this who rev. al is ???
Bring it on, punk. Rush will pulverize you.
And how is Rev. Al going to prove those statements false?
At first I thought this had to be from The Onion!
Rush has a plan and this might be the first salvo. His goal is to force the DBM to “disown” Obama. It may be a while in development and some of Rush’s moves might not make sense at the moment, but give it time.
Maybe the idea is to just tell the truth about them, and lure Sharpton and other race baiters into suing him. Then what side will the DBM take - the side of the one telling the truth or the side of the one telling lies?
FOX needs to FIRE HIM....PRONTO!!
As I have said repeatedly, I do NOT think Rush wants to get involved in any legal actions against anyone. During the deposition process, it’s too easy to introduce irrelevant questions that might come back to haunt Rush (re: drug stuff). I keep thinking of Alger Hiss, and how he sued for libel and ended up exposing HIMSELF to real charges of perjury related to his treason. In short, I think Rush wants to stay as far away from a courtroom as possible. Obviously, if he wants to bait Rev. Al into this, he has a strategy to expose Al in the same way, and Sharpton would likewise be a fool to get anywhere near a courtroom.
Sharpton was licensed and ordained a Pentecostal minister by Bishop F.D. Washington at the age of nine or ten.
He attended Brooklyn College, dropping out after two years in 1975.
What school did Bishop F.D. Washington graduate from before becoming a Bishop. These facts are sort of sparse on Wikipedia.
Rush said early last week that he would consider bringing legal action. didn’t hear him say that again, though, for the rest of the week. Maybe he weighed the pros and cons and decided against that option.
the side of the one telling the truth or the side of the one telling lies?
Knowing the media and the democrats they will take the side of the liars. Then attempt to spin it for votes for sommunism.
Exactly. Roy Black probably called and said, “No you won’t!” Roy knows that anything can happen once you get into these situations, and you don’t want Sharpton’s attys to begin bringing in the housekeepers and yardmen, and so on from the 1990s.
I am still perplexed that the Twana Brawly hoax gave Sharpton prominence as a black spokesman. Sharpton knew all along it was a hoax and it was proved in court that he was part of the conspiracy to make these false accusations.
So far, everyone who has gone after Rush has come away licking their wounds.
Yeah, it could turn into a real mess I guess. What was interesting is that on Friday (I think it was) he talked about how grateful he was for all the emails of support, and he said that people were encouraging him to do two things — to sue the media people who used the quotes, and to go after Sharpton. He went on for a few minutes about Sharpton — he basically said to be patient — but he was conspicuously silent on the question of whether he planned to sue. He brought it up but never addressed it. Rush never does anything without a reason, especially after he’s had a few days to think about it, so I’m guessing he let the possibility that he’d sue stay “out there” — kind of as a threat, maybe to scare people into issuing retractions — but with no intention of actually doing it at that point.
Al is all about face time . I doubt Rush will go any further with this.
