Dems see path for Deeds in Virginia

With just over two weeks left until Virginia’s gubernatorial election, Democrat Creigh Deeds is left with a narrow path to victory, one that hinges on energizing key demographic groups and the durability of the Old Dominion’s new politics.

Even as Deeds trails Republican Bob McDonnell by eight and nine points in two of the most recent polls, his campaign and other analysts can still envision a comeback made possible in no small part because of the state’s political turn leftward.

Virginia’s Washington, D.C. suburbs, where one-third of voters reside, have gone from being a battleground region to a Democratic bulwark in recent elections, making it dangerous to write off Deeds just yet.

“The demographic shift of the state combined with what we have done as a party allows us to have air in our lungs,” said Deeds campaign manager Joe Abbey.

Deeds, a state senator, represents the first true test of just how much the tectonic plates of the commonwealth’s political culture have moved.

The immigrants don’t vote in large numbers in NoVa. What has really turned places like Loudon and Fairfax County (the two wealthiest counties in the United States) left has been the influx of gubmint employees and folks from places like New York and New Jersey.

Watch the video if possible. I dont remember the full exchange but at the end McAwful tried to drop in a line about Deeds and Corzine and Rove whipped out a newpaper article from his folder quoting exactly the opposite of what McAwful said. it was funny, Rove knew he would pull that line and had him in checkmate before he even went on the show. It was a Rovian moment, where Rove is 9 thoughts ahead of McAwful.

Virginia’s Washington, D.C. suburbs, where one-third of voters reside, have gone from being a battleground region to a Democratic bulwark . . .

Pigs feeding at the government trough. When the country collapses and its various regions regroup, who gets these people?

McAwful probably thinks Deeds is losing, because he, not McAwful, won the primary.

I love the internet. I found a part 2 of 2 that would play. Rove had a quote from the Richmond paper where McAuliffe said in the democrat primary last spring that Deeds can’t win because he’s in favor of raising taxes. I’ll try again later and maybe the ‘error occurred’ message will be resolved and I hear the whole exchange.

That was it. You could see McAwful at the end try to spin it as “that way the primary” but Rove knew he had him.

"The demographic shift of the state combined with what we have done as a party allows us to have air in our lungs

I'm pretty sure what he means by "what we have done as a party" is code for "get ready for voter fraud on a scale never before seen."

VA Democrats are worried about a collapse of down ballot races from a 1994 style disproportionately Republican turn out.

They may even be right.

Congressional Democratic leaders are acting like there is a Republican land slide coming in VA & NJ Governors races.

Wishful thinking.

For whatever reason, blacks and the 18-29 year old age group just aren’t motivated to back Dems in Jersey and Va. If they aren’t motivated now, then they won’t be motivated by Nov 3rd. Obama, Biden, and other Dem celebrities have visited Jersey & VA countless times during the summer.

“The demographic shift of the state”

That’s exactly how the left will make conservatives politically irrelevant.

It’s surprising how unmotivated the democrats are. Last spring in their primary there was only a 4% turnout for governor and two other statewide races. That’s unbelievably low. It was even high profile with McAuliffe spending lots of $$ and three men in the race making lots of noise.

The problem is the suburban ditzy women who decide NJ elections will either go for Corzine or Third Party Daggett.

Yes, that "path" would be lined with ACORNs, namely copious amounts of voter fraud. The GOP had better be prepared to fight, but that is never a sure thing.

Saw where Deeds was throwing in the kitchen sink. Clinton and Obama are coming to NOVA to campaign next week. Obama may hurt more than it would help, but I guess when you are desperate you have nothing to lose.

Also saw an interview with Wagner where she was trying to defend her horrible revenue forecasting which has driven the state into a huge budget deficit. Who do you thank she blamed? Global recession which constrained revenues brought on by none other than President Bush.
