A team led by scientists from The Scripps Research Institute has developed a method that dramatically improves the efficiency of creating stem cells from human adult tissue, without the use of embryonic cells. The research makes great strides in addressing a major practical challenge in the development of stem-cell-based medicine.
The findings were published in an advance, online issue of the journal Nature Methods on October 18, 2009.
The new technique, which uses three small drug-like chemicals, is 200 times more efficient and twice as fast as conventional methods for transforming adult human cells into stem cells (in this case called "induced pluripotent stem cells" or "iPS cells").

How long do we wait for the MSM’s apology to the Bush Administration for not wasting our time and money on embryonic cells?
It is my hope that (far down the line, but I may live to see it) autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) may be used to cure my Rheumatoid Arthritis: not just manage the symptoms, but cure it. That is, IF medical innovation is “allowed” to continue in our “reformed” “health care future” :o/

What's so interesting to me in all of this is that the "ethical concerns" are readily acknowledged -- and many folks are quite willing to override them in any case.
It's human nature, I suppose -- to trade life for life. But (as if we needed more proof), it turns out that the trade was unnecessary to begin with.
It highlights one of the key dangers of technology: the potential for achieving desirable results tends to mask the difference between "can" and "should."
The demorats are against adult stem cell research because it does not involve killing.
Huh. So, just like they twist everything else, for them "No blood; no foul" gets twisted into being an expression of profound disappointment.
