It was an added cruelty that Katie’s world had revolved around her beauty. She modelled for catalogues and magazines, presented television programmes and had dreamed of a full-time career in the media.
But on March 31, 2008, the old Katie Piper disappeared for ever. The acid, hurled into her face on a busy London street, disfigured her beyond recognition. Some slipped down her throat with further terrible consequences.

I once saw a lady in the grocery with a very attractive body wearing shorts and a sleeveless top but whose face had been horribly burnt. She appeared Asiatic and I wondered if something similar had happened to her since her arms and legs were unscarred.
In WWII, the Hawker Hurricane, a British fighter had a fuel tank immediately forward of the instrument panel. I once saw a television program about the Battle of Britain and it addressed what happened to hurricane pilots when the forward fuel tank caught fire. It was unpleasant to watch as survivors were interviewed. They all had horribly burnt faces. They formed a survivors group and held regular reunions.
What really pleasantly surprised me were these mens wifes. From a photo from an early reunion, all the wives seemed like supermodels. Even to this day, some of those women interviewed looked like they got off to a good start in life and the years had been kind.

In looking through the prior comments, it appears that a FReeper commented on this young girl's looks, and/or propensity to plastic surgery. A tasteless comment, but one that I understand. When society trivializes the important (truly violent crimes) and prioritizes the trivial ("he looked at me wrong, fire him!")...I can see how an attitude like that could develop.
Note that I didn't say that I approved. I just understand. Whatta upside down world that we live in.
In China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, etc... acid attacks by jealous lovers, and “loner/losers” going-after random women on the street happen quite often.

What I see with this chick is a player, not little red riding hood. She boosts her clevage (no problem with that) and then hooks up with a black guy recently out of prison. I have seen this type, they like the dangerous ones. When it bites her in the ass she plays little miss innocent. Do I think she deserved it - no. Is it horrible - yes. Getting violently raped for eight hours just a few weeks into the relationship might've clued her in. And let's be honest. Raise your hand if you think she picked this guy because she seemed like a warm-hearted, responsible provider headed for a bright future? I doubt that. I doubt she ever dated a "nice boy" in her life. She probably liked the urban, bad-boy, "gangsta" image that he projected and I'll further bet that her past boyfriends fit this image as well. And keep your hand up if you think she might've suspected something of a criminal past in her boyfriend but either denied it or was attracted to it.
