Have you heard the news? President Obama inherited an economic mess from the Bush administration. You say that's hardly news? But it's been the message sounded over and over by the White House.
Top Obama adviser David Axelrod said on one of the Sunday news shows, "He walked in the door, we had the worst economy since the Great Depression." In San Francisco, Obama talked of being "busy with our mop."
White House heavy hitter Rahm Emanuel used the worst-economy-since-the-Depression line on a public TV news show. You'd think it's October 2008, the final month in the Obama presidential candidacy, rather than October 2009, nine months into the Obama presidency.
Yet the Obama White House is in full campaign mode -- maybe because it needs to mask the shortcomings of the Obama presidency. Take, for example, all the talk of inheriting the worst economy since the 1930s crisis. That came in response to the news that the federal deficit hit $1.4 trillion.
Yet just a few months ago, the Obama camp was singing a little different tune. It was under criticism for the $787 billion stimulus package it bulldozed through Congress on grounds that massive spending was needed to keep the unemployment rate from breaching 8 percent.
When joblessness hit 9.5 percent in June, Vice President Joe Biden said, "We misread how bad the economy was." They inherited the worst economy since the Great Depression, or the economy turned out to be worse than they thought. Which is it? It can't be both -- unless your brain is completely addled by the Obama charisma. Obama is still popular, but polls show the public losing faith in his policies.
Another indicator was a ''Saturday Night Live'' skit lampooning Obama for the major accomplishments of his administration -- "jack and squat." If the honeymoon is ending with the American voter, it isn't for obsequious elements of the mainstream media.
CNN prostrated itself by fact-checking the ''SNL'' comedy skit.
But that's harmless compared to the virulent campaign against Obama critics carried out by the denizens of MSNBC. Its Obama acolytes seek to demonize opponents of Obama's policies by focusing on most marginal corners of right-wing politics like, for example, the "birthers" who deny Obama is a natural born citizen.
The larger scheme is to imply Obama critics are racists. That's the backdrop to the story of Rush Limbaugh getting booted from a group bidding to buy the St. Louis Rams. He was smeared on CNN and MSNBC with false accusations of making two racist comments. He is an abrasive critic of Obama, so he must be racist, or so goes the left-wing story line. I wouldn't defend everything Limbaugh has ever said, but lies were used to blacklist him from professional football for his political views.
Recently an MSNBC personality accused the U.S. Chamber of Commerce of lobbying for policies that amount to being "treasonous to this country." Remember how liberals roared in outrage at any hint of their patriotism being questioned for criticizing the Iraq War? Well, it's the left that doesn't shy from attacking the patriotism of those it dislikes.
Recall the repulsive Moveon.org "General Betray-us" ad against Iraq commander Gen. David Petraeus. Recent opposition to Chicago's Olympic bid was cast as a sign of a lack of patriotism among Obama critics. The MSNBC blast against the chamber appears to dovetail with what the Politico newspaper reports is a White House and Democratic effort "to marginalize" the business organization.
That echoes the administration assault on the Fox News Channel: It says Fox isn't a news organization. The White House trying to dictate who's a news organization.
Democrats out to gut a business group. Obama media allies damning Americans as racist, unpatriotic and treasonous. Is this the America Obama promised when he campaigned to end the cynical and divisive politics of the past? Related Blog Posts What is Patriotism? The views expressed in these blog posts are those of the author and not of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Buried in the administration's multiple inflammatory statements on Fox News may be their strategy...... Anita Dunn, David Axelrod, and Rahm Emanuel hint at it in their statements.
The strategy is this: WH attacks indicate Fox News is having a devastating effect on those watching Fox news -----they mean "their vote"---Democrats and Independents (they've already written off Republicans). The WH slyly indicates FOX is an arm of the Republican Party ONLY BECAUSE they want to poison FOX in the minds of Democrats and Independents who warch Fox News. The incompetents in the WH can't even get this right----the more they attack FOX the more people tune in. Here's what FOX's Glenn Beck did (they are not all Republicans):

The massive crowds (9/12 pics left) are VERY significant---b/c the LSM measures crowds by the
size of civil rights protests (right pic); which LSM points out extended AROUND the Reflecting Pool.
WOW!
...Bravo, Mr. Huntley...

I do not see another way at this point than to pay twice our tax money to the fed. The government is a disaster and all my tax money has been spent till my great-grandchild so let’s get in there and dig more. You should pay more . It will be good for you. You usually waste a lot of your money on tobacco. The confiscative tax was not enough. Now the gov takes over tobacco. They just did $6.79 a pound to $28. This is the bags I buy in the store. Yep, I think all you ( oh wait he doesn’t like the flag ) stupid taxpayers better get paying more. My neighbor has a new truck. I don’t. Give it to me obama.......
Shades of Hugo Chavez! Obama is following down the same path.
There’s nothing that facilitates change like a crisis; Obama and his minions seem intent on utilizing this fact to transform the United States as quickly as possible into a secular, socialist crap hole on the model of Central America.
Their specious comparisons are baloney, of course; however, there is yet another fact these characters seem intent on exploiting, first noted by P. T. Barnum, I believe, and that is there’s a sucker born every minute.
The American public, by and large, seem too intent on their television shows and their pastimes to notice that the characters in power are rapidly transforming the nation on the model of the former Soviet Union.
One begins to wonder if this Obama person is a. deliberately sabotaging the country; or, b. simply an imbecile, ignorant of the lessons of history.
Somehow, he doesn’t seem like an imbecile.
I think Brett Hume is closer on the WH’s Fox strategy. Their goal is inhibit other news outlets from picking up on stories that originate (in the mainstream) at Fox. Such as Van Jones and the Acorn tapes.
They can’t stop Fox, they want to limit its impact.
Liz, that pic on the LEFT is NOT from 9/12. I was there, the grass from the capitol to the Washington Monument was NOT filled. There were multiple tents there for a Black Family reunion...
The CENTER picture IS CORRECT, that’s me in the middle waving.
>>”In San Francisco, Obama talked of being “busy with our mop.”<<
A few seconds later he described it as “our SOCIALIST MOP”. I swear I heard him say that.
Correct, left pic was from the 2006 Promise Keepers if I remember myself being previously corrected. Our crowd only went to 4th Street, but fanned out several blocks north and south from the Capitol steps.
Wish I knew where I filed the 9/12 panoramic pic that was taken from the Capitol steps.

The Official White House Blog reports:
Another way of putting it is when, you know, Im busy and Nancy busy with our mop cleaning up somebody elses mess - we dont want somebody sitting back saying, youre not holding the mop the right way. (Applause.) Why dont you grab a mop, why dont you help clean up. (Applause.) Youre not mopping fast enough. (Laughter.) Thats a socialist mop. (Laughter and applause.) Grab a mop - lets get to work.
He did, but in the context of criticism to his ‘policies’. “You can’t use that, it’s a socialist mop,” in essence. He also criticized people who said he’s holding the mop wrong.
Rush then said that when you hold the mop upside down, you are in fact holding it incorrectly. Wonderful line.
You’re correct. The center photo is from the march on 9/12.
The panoramic photo from the Capitol can be found here:

Thanks for locating the picture. Now I need to find enough work to buy it.

“The WH slyly indicates FOX is an arm of the Republican Party ONLY BECAUSE they want to poison FOX in the minds of Democrats and Independents who warch Fox News.”
Well, I can understand why they would try it, since fully one half of the country is so hot damn stupid.
“One begins to wonder if this Obama person is a. deliberately sabotaging the country; or, b. simply an imbecile, ignorant of the lessons of history.”
He is both, but “useful idiot” seems more appropriate.
Aw come on. We all *know* that picture has been Photoshopped. 'CNNMSNBCABCCBSNBCNYTLATWAPO' (aka: Drive By Media) said there were only 10,000 'protesters' there (Violent Gun-toting, Right-Wing, Racist Neo-Nazi, Militia Groups).
So that must be so.
It was in 'the news'.
Mr. Huntley, crybaby Axe is on line one ... URGENT!
Beck discussing this article on his radio show this morning.
Good grief, our MSM quislings have transcended disgusting and pathetic at the same time.
And that ain't an easy distinction for anyone or anything.
Then again never before has the Republic so many educated nonentities in charge of our information highways as is the case, today.
OTOH if anyone ever wondered WTH the thousands & thousands of people spewed out of the indoctrination centers sporting graduate & post graduate paper were *doing* with all that junk?
Wonder no more, they're "working". LOL
Great article.
I think you've got a tagline there...
