WASHINGTON House Democrats are aiming to scale back the cost of their health care bill to well below President Barack Obama's preferred price tag by giving the government a strong hand in selling insurance in competition with the private market.
Obama has sought to spend no more than $900 billion over a 10-year period. The initial cost of the House bill was more than $1 trillion. On Tuesday, House Democratic leaders received a new cost estimate of $871 billion from congressional budget umpires who measured a robust version of a so-called public option for health insurance, according to a Democratic aide.

At 871 Billion, it is only 147 Billion more expensive than the all so popular Medicare Part D that was passed in 2003.
Yeah well I heard on Fox they are going to raise Medicare premiums through the roof.
I hope Seniors are FINALLY will see how much Dums hate them.
This article doesn't tell the real story.
The American Medical Association's asking price for supporting ObamaCare is scrapping the SGR ["sustainable growth rate", which would require cuts to doctor's fees next year]. House Democrats did just that, but it pushed the total cost of their bill above $1 trillion, a political red line. The Senate Finance Committee chose the subterfuge of fixing the problem for only one year, which is how Chairman Max Baucus could claim he had done the miracle-work of designing an entitlement that reduces the deficit over 10 years. The AMA wasn't pacified.
So now Democrats are simply going to "untether" this spending on doctors from ObamaCare, hiding even more of its true costs. At a meeting on the Hill last week, Mr. Reid and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel made the quid pro quo explicit, telling the AMA and about a dozen specialty societies that in return for this dispensation they expect them to back ObamaCare, no questions asked.

Who knew that donkeys could grow fatter than elephants.
The AMA does not even represent a majority of medicos.
This crap is stinking worse and worse. Someone please pull the flush handle.
Yes, we can only hope this whole thing is flushed.
Now it’s over 1500 pages. Rangel said he needed two lawyers to read it for him when their version was ‘only’ 1,000 pages.
Now, if they can trim another 870,000,000,000 we might have something to work with.
Enough money to make nearly ONE MILLION people Millionaires. Enough money to give every man, woman, and child in the state of PA $80,000.00. Enough to give every man, woman, and child in the USA about $3,000.00.
