A 27-year-old man from Sudbury has been arrested on charges he planned terrorism attacks inside and outside the United States, according to a spokeswoman for Acting U.S. Attorney Michael K. Loucks.
The man was identified as Tarek Mehanna, who was arrested in November of last year for allegedly lying to authorities about a man who trained with al Qaida, federal officials tell the Herald.
Loucks and Warren T. Bamford, special-agent-in-charge of the Boston FBI field office, have called a 10 a.m. press conference to discuss the arrest.
The announcement will be made at the federal courthouse in South Boston.

The plot included plans to fire at emergency responders, but was abandoned because the men could not obtain the weapons.
Prosecutors also allege the men discussed participating in violent Jihad against American interests and their desire to die on the “battlefield.” The crimes are alleged to have taken place between 2001 and 2008.

Tarek Mehannah, of 6 Fairhaven Circle, is accused of conspiring with Ahmab Abousamra and others to obtain the automatic weapons needed to carry out a mall ambush in which they planned to open fire at random, said Acting U.S. Attorney Michael K. Loucks.

Perhaps it is just me, but there seems to be a lot of reporting of terrorist arrests lately via MSM.
When Bush was in office we really had to dig to find out things or if something did surface CAIR was right there charging racism.
Is this MSM reporting a strategy for the elections in 2012? Look how many prevented attacks during the last 4 years.

Even if they were non-citizens with criminal records they did not try very hard if they could not come up with at least some rifles and shotguns. Maybe they were holding out for full auto but perhaps they enjoyed talking and planning more than doing.

Federal authorities say they have foiled plots to launch terrorist attacks inside and outside the United States with the arrest this morning of a 27-year-old man in Sudbury, who they said had discussed with conspirators attacking a shopping mall with automatic weapons.
Tariq Mehanna, 27, is facing charges of conspiring to provide material support to terrorists. Authorities allege he conspired with Ahmad Abousamra and others to provide material support to terrorists, US Attorney Michael Loucks said at a news conference today in Boston.
Mehanna was first arrested and charged a year ago with lying to FBI agents in a terrorism investigation. “Today’s arrest, done in conjunction with a search of his home, involves broader and more serious charges,” Loucks said.
Mehanna and co-conspirators allegedly had multiple conversations about obtaining automatic weapons and shooting people in a shopping mall, including discussions of the logistics of the mall attacks, assaulting from diferent entrances, obtaining the automatic weapons, and possible attacks on emergency responders.
The conspirators were inspired by the DC sniper shootings of 2002 and viewed civilians as fair game because they were taxpayers and non-believers, Loucks said. The plot never materialized because the conspirators could not obtain weapons.
The conspirators also discussed attacking two members of the executive branch, Loucks said. Those people are no longer in the executive branch, Loucks said. “Neither were in any danger at any time from Mehanna or his co-conspirators,” he emphasized.
Abousamra has left the United States. Loucks said.

There does seem to be an increase in the level of activity, though.
You see, this is what I don’t get. I want to see Islam defeated around the world. There there is no way I would go live in an Islamic country, no way, no how, under any conditions. I might visit some of them, such as Morocco or Turkey, but can’t imagine living among people like that. They want to come her for the sole purpose of overthrowing our government, enslaving us and changing our way of life. The big question is, why do we allow them to?

Not too smart of em. They send up red flags by seeking Class III weapons when the tactical dif between semi-auto and full auto is not so decisive.
Heck even a double barrelled shotgun can fire off 25 rounds of buckshot in less than two minutes. And a typical scope sighted deer rifle is indeed a sniper rifle if put to that purpose after practice and attention to precision.
