[history]
Considering the name of this blog, we took great concern with the left Eye of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, which appeared puffy on Wednesday while she testified to a Senate committee.
Sebelius had a basal cell carcinoma removed from her forehead on Tuesday during a successful standard outpatient procedure, according to HHS spokeswoman Jenny Backus.

basal cell carcinoma removed from her forehead (read: 666)
To: Quilla
Shouldn’t she have waited in line a few years for that cancer procedure?
They do in Britain.

With the positioning of the pen in her right hand, it reminds me of one of my old aunts with that scrunched up face and gravelly voice telling you about the evils of tobacco while chain-smoking.

I wonder if she has myasthenia gravis. That disorder will cause an eye to droop.

I was wondering what the heck was wrong with her. I was watching the live stream, a short while ago. I didnt notice any bandage under her bangs tho.
The surgery is swelling the eye. Thats a very sensitive area.

Yep. Once that bandage is removed, we’ll see the real reason she had an operation........... a real 216 = 6*6*6 mark.

Actually, I thought the condition reminded me more of a certain sailor man than a pirate. But her behavior is more like that of the Sea Hag.

I don’t get it - why would a numbing of her forehead cause her eye to look like she had a stroke? They weren’t cutting on her eye socket - they were completely above it on the forehead...... makes no sense to me.

Yeah, the eye is definitely swollen, but look how
she is holding her pen, looks like a smoker to me.
The eye lid droop could be from the anesthesia, it
takes a little while to leave your system and her
lid might be slow to respond.

I dont get it - why would a numbing of her forehead cause her eye to look like she had a stroke? I think what you're seeing is the edema/swelling and bruising that tends to pool at a site lower than the actual surgery or injury. If you look below the eye and at the cheek, there really isn't any sagging of the skin like one sees in a stroke. The swelling has come close to closing her eye but isn't readily apparent because of the camera angle.

FWIW, whenever my dad has a skin cancer removed from his forehead (& it's happened more than once) he will get one or two black eyes and a huge amount of swelling...
..so if that's what happened (really, truly) ...it would be within the norm.

If you look really closely, there’s a skin-colored bandage almost immediately above her eyebrow just above where the bridge of the nose starts.

It's a pretty sizable bandage. Most people I've known who had cancers removed from their faces have had Mohs surgery, which is very precise. Typically they have little more than the round dot bandages afterward. From the size of the bandage, I'm not surprised by the swelling around her eye. These tissues are delicate, and the fluids tend to accumulate there.
I had a black eye this summer from a blow to my cheekbone. I was amazed at the swelling (even with ice), and watched over several weeks how the colors drifted lower onto my cheek.
I don't wish her ill, but I wouldn't be disappointed if she decided to retire and enjoy her remaining years of good health - be they few or many.
