Oprah Winfrey, on a campaign to climb back from last season's ratings slump, will attempt to kiss and make up with conservative viewers on Nov. 16 when she has Sarah Palin on her syndicated talk show .
You may have noticed that the appearance by the former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate is happening smack dab in the middle of the November ratings derby.
It's also the day before Palin's new book, "Going Rogue: An American Life," is scheduled to hit bookstores.
Oprah's production company, Harpo, claims it will be Palin's first interview about the book. We'll see about that.
More important, Harpo also claims it will be the first time Oprah and Palin will have met, and Harpo should know.
It's not just another show booking for Oprah. She's going whole hog this season to try to recover from the ratings tumble she took last season when her audience slid to under 7 million viewers. And, during one awful week in July, "The Oprah Winfrey Show" suffered its smallest ratings since its debut way back in 1985.
Industry navel gazers speculated Oprah had turned off some of her conservative viewers -- or, more accurately, they had turned her off -- when she not only endorsed then presidential candidate Barack Obama but even campaigned for him. (Palin, of course, was the running mate of Obama's rival, Sen. John McCain.)
It was the first time Oprah had stripped off her apolitical veneer and publicly endorsed a political candidate. At the time, Oprah told CNN's Larry King she did it because "what [Obama] stands for" was "worth me going out on a limb for."
And her ratings took a tumble, though hers was not the only syndicated show to lose audience

I’m really torn . . . I respect Palin . . . I don’t respect Oprah.
Don’t show Sarah! Do the Marsha Brady on her: “Something suddenly came up...”
Oprah, I would like you a lot better if you’d stay out of politics and stick to what got you rich and famous in the first place.
Has Sarah or Meg even confirmed this is even true
He, heh, heh... Be careful what you wish for, Oprah!
Dont show Sarah! Do the Marsha Brady on her: Something suddenly came up...
Sounds like a setup to me.
I won’t watch it.
I'll be d*mned if I give that interloping traitor and her advertisers one minute of my time....
+1
I'm thinking tho that this could be interesting... what if the audience is soooo huge that she HAS to cover conservative topics in the future? etc... Thoughts?
I no longer watch programs I normally don’t watch because a conservative is on it. After Sarah was on 20/200 last year, and they led off her “hacked-up” interview with a 5 minute hit-piece on her, I was done with that garbage.
Oprah’s had 25 years of success. The run has to come to an end sometime.
Set up or not, I won’t watch. I like that oprah and others attribute her slump in ratings to Conservative viewers turning off her show. Let’s keep it that way.
Why is Palin throwing Oprah a life vest? Let her sink or swim with that Obama albatross around her neck on her own.
On the other hand, if Oprahs’s ratings for that episode are through the roof, Obama and his minions will be wee-weeing all over themselves with fright. Wouldn’t that be a fun sight?
I will watch to show support for Palin. Giving Oprah a one day bump will only prove that we like Sarah but the next day, Winfrey will be back to her self important, Jesus bashing, celebrity worshipping, ratings hungry self.
Don’t forget, she’s a cultist.
Ah! Oprah has much to gain. Does Sarah?
Never watched her before, won’t watch her now. Will she or any other Obamanite, ever admit they were wrong?
TO HECK WITH OPRAH.
I WILL NOT WATCH REGARDLESS OF WHO IS ON.
OPRAH IS DESPERATE FOR BUZZ.
Not watching.
Merely and simply a move by Oprah to capitalize on the ‘star power’ of Palin.
Not watching.
Doing the Marsha Brady again is the last thing Palin needs!
I bet Oprah does want to win back some of her lost audience and that that’ll temper her interview with Palin just fine. And no matter how rabid Oprah’s audience they follow her cues with perfect docility.
They’ll spin it as astroturf- the GOP hired millions of viewers to watch; or they will focus on twisting Palin’s words out of context, then hype up any controversy that might come from that.
Why Sarah? Why?
Sarah Palin simply will not go there, and it will be interesting to see when Oprah tries to evoke some self pity from her, I promise you it will not be what the Oprah-bots will be looking for.
For once they get to see how a strong woman reacts to adversity.
Sarah is so irrelevant that the liberals Queen Goddess Ophrah is desperately trying to hitch a ride on her coattails.
Absolutely right - set up from the get go!
I would advise Mrs Palin not to do the show. Oprah is 100% Obama licker. The snub during election season should be a warning. Do not help the queen of daytime boost her ratings on your back.

As much as I love Sarah, she is not enough to get me to watch Oprah.
she's a pig.
Sarah is the antithesis of most of Oprah’s viewers. She’s a smart, successful, beautiful, self-made woman with a great husband and family. Most of Oprah’s viewers are whiny, miserable flops who sit on the couch all day and who need Oprah to tell them how to think.
The last daytime show I recorded was when Laura Ingraham guested on The View.
Oh, meant to say this will be the next.
I stand by my comment....Oprah will be both gracious and fair and she and Sarah will get along just fine.....AND
Oprah will invite her back.
Hope to see some highlights on youtube.
I will definitely watch YouTube, I just won’t give Oprah the ratings boos of my mere 1 tv
If you're a Nielson household you speak for a mere 5000 TVs.
If you're not a Nielson household, nobody knows what you are actually watching (unless your TV was built sometime after passage of the Patriot Act - then they do.)
If Palin is serious about being a candidate in the future, she has to appear on the 0bama loving media, and this is as good a place as any to start, and probably the best place to start as far as book sales go. You can bet that the viewership will be two or three times larger than normal, mainly women, a demographic that has not completely warmed up to Palin. I suspect that a significant percentage of the viewership, who would not have normally bought Going Rogue will find themselves in their nearest bookstore on Nov 17th buying a copy.
0prah aliented a large segment of her viewers by endorsing 0bama over Hillary, followed by her refusual to have Palin on the show during the campaign. I suspect 0prah doesn’t really want that to happen again, so she will probably not be friendly towards Palin, but won’t go out of her way to attack her either. Palin will handle it well, and sales of her book will increase because of it.
