WASHINGTON Democrats lost a big test vote on health care legislation on Wednesday as the Senate blocked action on a bill to increase Medicare payments to doctors at a cost of $247 billion over 10 years.
The Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, needed 60 votes to proceed. He won only 47. And he could not blame Republicans. A dozen Democrats and one independent crossed party lines and voted with Republicans on the 53 to 47 roll call.

What will other prospective suckers of the federal teat think?
Bill Nelson is reading the Florida Senior Citizens’ emails!
I thought the plan called for $500B in Medicare cuts
Any idea which of the Nay Dems are up for reelection?
I don’t think know what they’re going to do- except take our money.
The Dems they lost on this are all senior members of the Senate Dem establishment.
It’s tea leaf reading time.... and they will be!
ain’t that the truth
Nelson for one is not. The Dems they lost on this are all senior members of the Senate Dem establishment.
Its tea leaf reading time.... and they will be!
Battle shaping up in the Democrat Party, you think?
North Dakota, I can understand, given the conservative leanings of the state. But Wisconsin?
Ping...
I see Byrd voted nay. Is his health back or did somebody else pull the lever for him?
I am also shocked to see my home state’s worthless puke (McCaskill) voted Nay.
And American wins!
America had better keep calling, demonstrating, writing and threatening job loss on the dems. This is not time to rest.
I had to check twice to make sure I was seeing correctly. Nelson isn’t even up for election any time soon, so I really can’t believe his vote here.
It is amazing though. Both dem senators from North Dakota and both dem senators from Wisconsin also voted against this. I’m thinking we may have gotten through to some.
Nelson is my senator and I called him up last week. I wondered what his vote would be on this.
There seem to be a few more intelligent dems that may be thinking their agenda might not be as important as the will of the people.
Visions of 94’ dance in their heads...
Two of the worst people in Congress.
Prayers for the "Land of Pleasant Living."
Everybody on Medicare should want Obama gone.
Don’t his just make you smile?
It sure does me!!! After seeing these prigs head after Medicare Advantage as if it was "fraud, waste and abuse!"
Obomba's union prigs just don't like it because unions hate any employer "contracting out" to make the employer's money stretch much farther while improving the benefits for the customer!!!
My personal plan is being improved still further this year by cutting my annual deductible in half!!!
The fraud, waste and abuse is without the "Medicare Advantage" plan for Medicare coverage as it requires the typical Medicare Beneficiary to pay a substantial monthly premium for a much more limited "Medigap/Medicare Supplement" policy, plus another monthly premium for Part D for prescriptions, along with the annually increasing premium for Part B. It's a mess!!!
In other words, you can trade in your government motors chevy for a private sector Lexus with NO monthly outlay (except for Part B) that even includes a complimentary membership to a gym based on the money the government gives the private contractor!!! That's the farthest thing there is from supposed "fraud, waste and abuse!!!"
I'll never forget old Dem CONgressman Claude Pepper from FL bellerin in his quavering voice... "You keep your miserable hands off our Medicare!" The young punk Democrat POTUS needs to take his advice!!!
The price for medicines is going from up, and the first 5 days in the hospital is going to cost $50/day, free after that where it is no charge now.
I haven't got all the way through the book yet but it looks like everything is going up.
Good rant and just remember, “Old age and treachery will triumph over youth and exuberance every time.”
As you said earlier... "Don't this just make you smile?" (grin)
With all that’s going on, I’m glad some of us try and retain a sense of humor. :)
The price for medicines is going from up, and the first 5 days in the hospital is going to cost $50/day, free after that where it is no charge now.”
Free? It’s not “free”. We pay for it with our taxes, right?
