The chairman of the House Republican Conference says its hogwash that GOP leaders are worried about what Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and the Tea Party movement are doing to their partys image.
In a story headlined Conservatives Roar; Republicans Tremble, POLICO reported Thursday that many top Republicans are growing worried that the partys chances for reversing its electoral routs of 2006 and 2008 are being wounded by the flamboyant rhetoric and angry tone of conservative activists and media personalities.
But House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) says its not so.
You know, the American people cherish their freedom of speech and a free and independent press. That's why I found this morning's headlines so troubling, Pence said Thursday. Goaded on by a White House increasingly intolerant of criticism, lately the national media has taken aim at conservative commentators in radio and television. Suggesting that they only speak for a small group of activists and even suggesting in one report today that Republicans in Washington are worried about their electoral effect.
Well, that's hogwash.
To suggest that men and women that are taking a stand for fiscal discipline and traditional values in the national debate today only speak for grassroots activists is absurd. As evidenced by the hundreds of thousands that filled town hall meetings this summer and the nearly a million Americans who gathered here in Washington in September. Millions of Americans, Republicans, Democrats and Independents are worried about liberal social policies and runaway federal spending, deficit and debt.
So to my friends in the so-called mainstream media I say, conservative talk show hosts may not speak for everybody but they speak for more Americans than you do.
Now if Mike Pence would refine his thinking just a bit, he would be worth voting for in for President.
“Christian, Conservative, then Republican..in that order” as Mike Pence likes to say ;)..!
He doesn’t need to refine his thinking, in my opinion, Mr. Pence needs to become MORE agressive in pushing leadership CONSERVATIVE than he has been!
By the way: I’ve changed the name of the Mainstreme Media; they are NO longer MSM, they’re now known as: MSP: The Mainstreme Propoganda!
The more I hear Mike Pence, the more I like him.
Absolutely, me too.
Mike Pence is maturing and learning from his past mistakes...
Showing up at the DC March - mostly just talked to people was a great gesture ...
However, keep watch - his silly mistake back in 2006/2007 was to carry Bush’s water on Amnesty with a goofy proposal to allow illegal aliens to step back into their own country for one day and then return to be processed for Amnesty...
I was very upset at Mike Pence then... He got a lot of flack from many Conservatives ... but I believe Pence is now on the right track (sorry for the pun)...
I’m not sure what the intent of you post is... but I happen to agree with the content of your post and that Mike Pence is showing to be a great representative. Mr. Pence has grown to show ‘he gets it’.
