David Harmer and The National GOP's Screwed Up Priorities
RedState.org ^ | Oct 16, 2009 | Erick Erickson

There could be a serious upset in a congressional special election this year and it is going under the radar. John Fund took notice of it yesterday.

David Harmer is the Republican running in a special election to fill Ellen Tauscher’s seat in Congress. The Democrat, Lt. Governor John Garamendi, is favored to win, but is only polling 41% to Harmer’s 34%.

Interestingly, poling in the area shows the favorability of the GOP is skyrocketing in that district. Nonetheless, the GOP would rather support a pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion, pro-union, ACORN supported Dede Scozzafava in New York’s 23rd Congressional District than spend any time or money on David Harmer’s race.

Having dug into the race, I can’t really add to what John Fund reported. The district is a Democrat leaning district, but the negativity toward the Democrats in the district is overwhelming.

David Harmer is a good candidate, but he needs money to get across the finish line. With the NRCC anticipating a black eye in New York’s 23rd, they won’t fully engage this race because they are fearful of two black eyes. Don’t get me wrong — the NRCC has done some work helping the candidate get up to steam, but right now the focus and money is going to Dede.

Polling, however, suggests this might really be the upset John Fund thinks it is. If you are a California Republican or anyone else who wants to take credit away from the GOP establishment by helping get a good guy elected without their help, you might want to consider sending David Harmer a few bucks or go lend a hand.

I KNOW EVERYONE IS FOCUSING ON NY-23 RIGHT NOW (and they should be), but I found out about this "little known" race which, if we help the Candidate David Harmer (yes there was a "Primary" in this Congressional District), if we all give a little bit David might win!! I KNOW THE NRCC doesn't deserve MUCH credit these days, however we can put a "Serious black eye" on Obama if we win this one (for the "Gipper")

Although the National GOP has been doing little things for years, it was clearly evident of collusion between the Nat’l GOP and Nat’l DEM parties than last years Primaries.

Screwed the voters royally and have no plans of fixing it. Openness and cross-party voting (pollination) gave us an unelectable candidate on the Pubbie side.

It will not quite anytime soon unless the ‘nuclear option’ is exercised by the voters ... Term Limits at the ballot box. In other words all incumbents OUT!

The we might start taking back our government, our country and the citizens rightful place as BOSS, not subservient to politicians.

A couple of things to consider seriously ~ this ol'gal, Dede Scozzafava, looks a lot like that former mayor of Portland Oregon who had all the AlQaida boyfriends, AND, worst of all, she sounds like she shares in Anita' Dunn's love of Mao Tse Tung.

Just where does New York find these people ~ I've been there ~ there are millions and millions of people around ~ certainly there's someone around who is decent, intelligent, and able to get beyond slogans. Why don't we search for such candidates.

Not one slim dime.

New Yorkers need to ‘speak up’ at the polls.

The rest of us can only talk about it.

Wish other New Yorkers would add their 2 cents worth here with examples. Maybe the word could get around.

Good news!!! Maybe Fund read my post from Tuesday about Harmer on one of the Scozzafava threads.

I've been posting about this race for a few months now. It's about time somebody paid a little attention to this.

The CA-10 used to be one of the more conservative Bay Area districts in the 1980's and 1990's. Tauscher won by using a stooge to heckle the former congressman Bill Baker. The heckler goaded Baker into jumping off a stage at an appearance in Danville, and then Tauscher used that to claim that Baker was unstable and not fit to be a congressman.

This district started shifting left after Tauscher won. The 2000 reapportionment moved the CA-10 north and east towards Davis, while leaving the southern residential communities and business parks to the CA-11, and Richard Pombo. In 2006, Pombo was ousted and replaced by Jerry McNerney.

One thing that Harmer likes to say on the radio is that Garamendi doesn't live in the district he's running for, so he can't even vote for himself in this election.

Pete Sessions should give him some love instead wasting his efforts on Scuzzobama.

This seat is not unwinnable.

I just became aware of this race today. I sent Farmer $9.12 (my standard minimal donation in honor of the 9-12-2009 march on DC). Being unemployed, I can’t afford much, but I wanted to help.

Please JSDude1 (and anyone else on this thread), keep us up to date on this race.

From the desk of
cc2k:
Candidates I support: Doug Hoffman for Congress, NY 23rd (PayPal), David Harmer for Congress, CA 10th.

Please, spread the word about these important special elections on November 3, 209: New York’s 23rd congressional district and California’s 10th congressional district.

Sorry. My congressman is Steve King and there is no way in you-know-where I’m voting for the RAT who will run against him. I may be dumb, but I’m not stupid.

I understand, but that attitude is exactly the attitude that ensures “CHANGE” will NOT occur.

Term Limits are needed in this country on local, state and
national levels.

Our Forefathers never imagined that the job would become a life-time position. The idea is to come from the People, serve the People and return to the People in a relatively short period of time. A short period is not decades.

Not all politicians are bad (bad for the country) or greedy self-promoting b*stards ... just 97% or so of them.

>> but I found out about this “little known” race

This is the kind of grassroots activism the Country needs, but it’s ultimately up to the folks in that district to reach out to one another.
