Gingrich: Liberal Republican 'dramatically better' than Democrat [stands by Scozzafava]
OneNewsNow ^ | 2009-10-23

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is defending his decision to endorse a liberal Republican candidate in the special election for New York's 23rd Congressional District even though she is a Margaret Sanger Award winner and supporter of same-sex "marriage."

New York Republican congressional candidate DeDe Scozzafava not only has the backing of Planned Parenthood and The Daily Kos, but her campaign has also received financial endorsements from the Republican National Committee and Republican leaders such as House Minority Leader John Boehner, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Gingrich recently said Scozzafava's election could be the start of a "new Republican Revolution" that mirrors the "1994 Republican Revolution." On the Andrew Wilkow Show Wednesday, Gingrich explained his endorsement of Scozzafava.

"She's dramatically better than the Democrat. She's not the person I would have nominated [and] she's not the person who fits my values 100 percent, but she is a heck of a lot better than the liberal Democrat," stated Gingrich. "And if you want to have a conservative majority in Washington, part of that majority's going to make you uncomfortable."

Why should we even consider a liberal republican when there is a clear conservative in the race?

I’ve really gotten to where I despise Newt. I mean, he’s helping to destroy our republic by saying WE need to move to the center. Dear Newt, go f#$& yourself you filandering scumbag.

I pointed out these and other issues to his press secretary this morning. The one thing that got me was his appearance on BOR a few nights ago when he said he had just been made aware of the Rasmussen Daily Tracking Poll only two weeks before. Callista must be keeping an awfully tight rope on him if he didn’t know about that poll.

GINGRICH: Well, Rasmussen has a very interesting number, which I had never seen until a couple weeks ago. He takes strongly favor and strongly unfavor. http://newt.org/tabid/102/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/4607/Default.aspx

Has Newt forgotten the days when a true conservative won 49/50 states in the electoral college?

Exactly.

If we don't vote for a Conservative we'll never elect a Conservative.

The Fall of Newt Gingrich is one of the biggest disappointments in my political life.

It’s a no-brainer. How Newt can run around pretending to be a conservative after this and after doing the “Green” ad is beyond me.

Scozzafava's electionresounding defeat could be the start of a "new Republican Revolution" that mirrors the "1994 Republican Revolution."

Fixed it for ya, Newt.

Has everyone seen this: “The Most Important Number in Politics Today.”

Doug Hoffman is the Conservative alternative in this race (or Hoffman by PayPal).

Markos Moulitsas, founder of The Daily Kos has endorsed Scozzafava. Dede Scozzafava has also been endorsed by NYSUT, the largest labor union in New York, and an affiliate of the National Education Association.

Scozzafava also holds these positions:

Scozzafava has also run in past elections on the Working Families Party (a progressive party associated with ACORN) line on the ballot.

This lady isn’t a RINO, she is a big “R” libeRal democRat. Mark Steyn has coined the term DIABLO for her and others like her. Democrat In All But Label Only.

There are also at least 17 unprincipled DIABLO enablers in the house who have donated funds or otherwise supported to this LibeRal democRat's DIABLO’s campaign. They include Boehner, Cantor, Sessions, Hensarling, Brown-Waite and McCotter. I don’t have a full list, but I will be looking for it. These unprincipled enablers should be targeted for elimination in the primaries next year. Also, perhaps those of us who donated to the RNC or RCCC should ask for our money back so we can support the conservative candidates of our choice.

More threads ...
From the desk of
cc2k:
I support Doug Hoffman for Congress (PayPal).

Please, spread the word about this important election on November 3, 2009 in New York’s 23rd congressional district.

I’ve been turning the dial whenever I hear Mr. Gingrich. He’s not high integrity, imo. Part of the party, and sharp, but let’s try to build from a foundational mix with higher integrity. Dubya was high integrity, Cheney, Reagan, all high integrity. Palin also. Bachmann.

Seems like Gingrich does not even remember his own revolution. The 1994 class was brought in with a clear conservative platform. Not some middle of the road crap.

What really hacks me off, every single Republican candidate for Congress, House and Senate that year signed on to the Contract With America, yet wayyyyyyyy too many proved in subsequent years that they were not sincere in its goals, ideals, it was proven very quickly that they had only signed on for the PR value. And just look how much power the MOR-Republicans in the House had over the majority-Conservative GOP members in 1995 and onward, that was as frustrating as anything else.

To have the man who conjured up the document, someone I watched for years as a back-bencher who gathered like-minded true Conservatives around him now try to tell me that really, a woman who is more left than the Dem candidate, not only receives but approves ACORN endorsement is the best candidate for the seat, "dramatically better" solely because it would add R's to the House is as betraying as anything done to the former spouses.

Politician, thy name is Gingrich.

Liberal Republican 'dramatically better' than Democrat

It's exactly that kind of club-footed thinking that gave us McCain and put Obama in the White House.

How did THAT work out for you, Newt?

Newt is completely wrong on this particular race, but he is right in general that we are not going to get a House of 300 pure conservatives. There is a time and place for more moderate members. Neither party is 100% ideologically pure.

It is important that we have people with a set of core principles and commitment to the ideas of limited government and such in every place we can. There are also some districts and states where we will need less than 100% pure conservatives to get a majority. In those spots we still need loyal candidates who will not damage the party like McCain, Snowe, Lindsey, and Spector have done to get in good favor with the cocktail party crowd.

In this particular NY district there is no need to select a radical leftist like the party did, and there is no reason for the voters to line up behind her just because she has an R next to her name. This is going to be an interesting battle. My guess is the D wins or the I wins, depending on how many voters become informed.

Newt Gingrich has joined Eric Cantor’s new effort to remake the GOP for the future, a Cantor spokesperson confirms.

“Speaker Gingrich will be joining the National Council for a New America as one of the members of our national panel of experts,” Cantor spokesperson Joe Pounder tells me, confirming a Chris Cillizza item based on anonymous sources.
