WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The group most threatened by swine flu and most in need of the new vaccine, world health authorities say, is that of pregnant women.

For example, Aubrey Opdyke.

On June 27, Opdyke, a 27-year-old waitress and former high school swimmer who weighed 135 pounds before her pregnancy and had no health risks other than a smoking habit, came down with mild flu symptoms.

She just came home from the hospital three weeks ago.

That seems like a pretty big one, especially in the light of a pregnancy.

If this were true, then last year when the Government was saying Swine Flu, Mexican Flu or H1N1 is no big deal. Were they lying then or are they lying now? Or in the alternative, is the Government implementing a program of infanticide as a form of forced birth control. And as a side note, what of birth defects associated with this Flu?

When I was in the military and pregnant in the fall of 1973, I did not get a flu shot...

They were suppose to be mandatory for enlisted people, so I asked my doctor whether or not he could affirm the ingrediants would hurt my unborn baby...

When he admitted that he didnt know, I told him that I would not be getting a shot...

I never got the flu...

The situation was much the samer then...people anxious to get a shot so they wouldnt get the flu...

And no proof that the shot would not be worse...

Yup. Pregnancy changes everything in your body, including your lungs. This is one reason pregnant women are at special risk for this flu. Throw in smoking and you've got a big ol' target on your forehead. Pregnancy is one of the few reasons I might take the H1N1 shot. But, this old brood mare has hung up her hooves, so no H1N1 vaccination for me.

I like this form the article:

As they said this, Aubrey Opdyke was doing her daily physical therapy, struggling to lift one-pound weights. Her therapist interrupted to announce that she opposed flu shots. "Have you ever read the labels?" she asked. "They're so full of toxins."

Asked if she realized that a shot, had it existed in June, might have saved her client and her baby, she frowned and went back to her clipboard.

I had another article posted today about the Mumps outbreak in New York and New Jersey, I tell ya these anti-immunization nut jobs are going to get us all killed.

My earlier Mumps post.

Have you read this blog by a New York pediatrician about anti-vaxers? He compares the upper-class urban liberals he treats with the lower class residents of NYC. The lower classes are under vaccinated, but the upper classes are increasingly unvaccinated. Undervaccination among the poor is an obvious result of poor education, lack of money, and shor-sighted lifestyle. But what explains the complete lack of vaccination among the upper class? He believes the combination of cynicism and empowerment in the upper classes breeds anti-vaccinationism. We see some of this on the right, too: Witness the many people on this forum who say they will refuse the vaccine because Obama is president. (Evidently, one election retroactively changes years of medical data and non-political institutions.)

The blogger also makes the point that vaccines are culturally self-defeating. Within a generation of the introduction of a vaccine, people will forget how bad a disease was. The voices of those that remember the disease will fade, and those that died of the disease are left voiceless.

This blog also has an interesting theory, interpreting anti-vaccinationism as a New Age vitalism. I've seen some of this on the right, too. There are those who would prefer to see disease spread vs. vaccination, because the survivors will have "natural" immunity. Those that die are quickly dismissed as suffering from "risk factors" or "complications," as if that obviates the utility of vaccination.

If she’s really worried, maybe wear a mask, stay out of large groups of people especially children or parents) and wash her hands very often.

Here’s an e-mail I got from my Father about prevention.

The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat.
In a global epidemic of this nature, it’s almost impossible to avoid
coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact
with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.

While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of
H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of
symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple
steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be
practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):

1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official
communications).

2. “Hands-off-the-face” approach. Resist all temptations to
touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap).

3. *Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if
you don’t trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in
the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic
symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling
with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that
Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don’t underestimate this simple,
inexpensive and powerful preventative method.

4. *Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once
every day with warm salt water. *Not everybody may be good at Jala
Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga asanas to clean nasal cavities),
but *blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with
cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing
down viral population.*

5. *Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in
Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement
with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost
absorption.

6. *Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you
can. *Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in
the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the
throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do
any harm.

There was no H1N1 vaccine in June so, that's irrelevant.

IMO, there is plenty of reason to worry about vaccines in general especially ones using thimerasol. The stuff has been banned everywhere but here. Here's some intresting info on the ingredients in the vaccine. http://www.pregnancy.org/bulletinboards/showthread.php?p=7263807

Well it will not depopulate the planet. Unclear whether this was ‘flu’ or she just had flu like symptoms. The lethal portion of whatever she had was the pneumonia ( lungs filling and then collapsing) causing a cascade effect on other organs

I have read all the stuff on Thimerasal, I have a nephew who has autism, it's bunk as the original study it was based off of has been proven to be bunk:

MMR doctor Andrew Wakefield fixed data on autism

He lied on his research to gin up funds which was discovered after all other studies that attempted to duplicate his results failed.

It's a lie and all those whom keep repeating this lie are getting people killed.

It's relevant in that her baby died because she got H1N1. Now if you want to debate whether or not her baby would have died with the vaccine, well we have to try to find out after this is all over the rate of loss of pregnancies among women whom came down with H1N1 vs. the rate with women whom did not come down with H1N1 after receiving the vaccine, notice this not a comparison between women whom did not receive the shot, that would not be valid since you and others are attempting to imply that it is the vaccine that is causing harm.

“since you and others are attempting to imply that it is the vaccine that is causing harm.”

No, I posted this thread because of the illness not, the vaccine.

I have a stinkin suspicion it was manufactured.

Fact is, I haven't done enough research on these flus or vaccines but, have heard extensively from others
.

All I know is I have daughter who is expecting in the next couple of weeks.

Needless to say, the conversation about *vaccines* HAS COME UP!

Her baby died from a drug given to keep the mother alive, not the flu. (couldn’t open airway lived 7 minutes)

I can see you have a debatable agenda here but, we’ll need to talk about that at another time.

“…might have read this wrong…”

My take on this is a bit different, although I do have sympathy for her loss and related problems; my point is prior to being pregnant the Government was pooh-poohing public concerns and doing nothing other than talking stupid across the board about threat, impact and public preparedness. That was the time for her to have gotten a shot, that no one else wanted to take then and now based on the publics perceived conflict which the Government and “Friends of Government” have fostered. In fact, in Germany, the Political Class is getting a different version of the Flu Shot than the one being pushed upon the public.

Swine flu vaccines discarded
BY CATHERINE KARONG’O
Update 7 minutes ago

http://www.capitalfm.co.ke/news/Kenyanews/Swine-flu-vaccines-discarded-6241.html

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 23 - The World Health Organisation (WHO) says that scientists have discarded a first set of vaccines that had been developed for the prevention of H1N1 influenza virus commonly known as swine flu.

WHO Country Director Dr David Okello said on Friday that this was because of the dilemma there was a possibility of the highly contagious virus mutating into a more severe form.

“The scientists have moved to the second level because of the dilemma we are all facing,” Dr Okello said.

He said if the virus mutated, the people who are developing the vaccine would have to advance their technologies to address the problem.

“There will be a continuous re-checking of the vaccines even after development. Probably we will get a first phase of the vaccine and then a second phase and so on depending on the nature of the virus,” the WHO representative said.

He said the international health body was working closely with the manufacturers and expects the issue of mutation to be addressed.

He assured that Kenya was on the priority list to access the vaccine once it was available and clarified that the vaccine was yet to be released contrary to reports in a section of the press that a vaccine was already in the country.

Public Health Minister Beth Mugo said she had requested for an extra allocation of Sh270 million from Treasury to deal with the disease in case it became more aggressive.

“We have prepared a Cabinet paper and we hope the government will respond to our request because it is a need and we must be prepared for worse times to come. We cannot say exactly how much we will get at this time but we have requested for those finances,” she said.

They were addressing a press conference where the Minister also said Kenya was set to host yet another major international conference on health promotion in the coming week.

She said this was the first time the 7th Global Conference on Health would be held in the African continent.

Mrs Mugo said the Nairobi conference would discuss ways to seal the gaps in implementation of evidence based health promotion and weak health promotion capacity.

“The Health Ministries, WHO country office and the other stakeholders are working on a document that will provide direction for Kenya in bridging the implementation gap in health promotion,” the Minister said.

“This document will be part of the global call to action that will be discussed at the conference,” she added.

The Minister said the conference which comes at a time when the world is grappling with major health threats like the H1N1 Influenza pandemic and cholera outbreaks in Kenya would be graced by President Mwai Kibaki.

WHO Coordinator of Health Promotion Dr Gauden Galea said although a lot of understanding on how to reduce major health problems had been gained from previous meetings, there was need to implement the decisions that had been made.

“The problem that we are seeing is that not enough has been gained. We have Millennium Development Goals that we are struggling to attain but the lack of implementation of these basic areas of action results in a score card that is quite low,” he said.

They had to give her the drug to keep her alive, hence it was the flu that killed the baby, if she dies from the flu the baby is also dead.

My “agenda” is to educate the public against the witch doctor, herbal remedy, anti-vaccination crowd so they will stop killing their and our children with their pseudo-science and possibly send us into the next 1900’s pandemic, which could kill 50% of the population or more.

A large percentage of today's medicines come from or were developed from NATURAL sources.

Your over-generalization about people who seek something other than what comes in a doctor's prescription is alarmingly misinformed.

What if it's the same scientist/doctors who think were in the midst of global warming? Still gonna take that shot/pill?
