The locally based AIDS Healthcare and Pink Cross foundations have organized a boycott of Marriott hotels over porn. The protest is not about the Mormon-founded chain's in-room, X-rated offerings. No, that's just fine. The problem, according to the groups, is the hotel company's palette of on-demand smut that features actors who do not use condoms.
"Marriott is certainly not alone among major hotel chains that promote and profit off the sale of unsafe, condom-less adult films to their hotel guests," AIDS Healthcare Foundation president Michael Weinstein states. "However, we want to highlight the brazen hypocrisy--the Mormon Marriott's moral masquerade--of such a so-called family-oriented hotel chain profiteering off adult films that endanger the lives of the performers acting in them."
The groups organized a "porn-in" last night at the Marriott on Figueroa Street downtown to launch the boycott. As we speak, the organizations contend, some businessman in a dark Marriott room somewhere across America is watching Just Explicit Sex, Naughty Office Workers, Mothers Do It Better, or Daddy's Girl Takes it All -- titles they say are offered by the chain, titles that feature condom-free sex.
The groups have been emboldened by two HIV outbreaks in the industry in 2004 and last summer. The former outbreak was likely facilitated by condom-free sex during film shoots in Brazil. The isolated incidences have inspired state and county health officials to threaten to force the industry require condom use in the name of health and safety, but so far they've shot blanks.
The San Fernando Valley-based industry, however, has made pains to virtually require regular HIV tests among its actors, and boosters claim that its HIV rates are much lower than those of the general public.
Former porn actress Shelley Lubben says that's not good enough. She founded the Pink Cross Foundation to help "victims" of the industry -- the talent -- "recover." Pink Cross claims that, while HIV might be under control in the industry, chlamydia and gonorrhea rates among performers are ten times those of 20- to 24-year-old in Los Angeles County.
"I fully support the campaign to require condoms in all porn production, and believe putting public pressure on middlemen such as the Marriott--latter day purveyors of porn who are profiting richly off the depiction of unsafe sexual activity--can only help the health and safety of performers who are forced to work in unsafe and hazardous work conditions every day," Lubben states.
Mitt Romney left the Marriott Board while he was campaigning, but then returned.
According to a press release of this protest -- MormonMarriottsMoral Masquerade:HotelChainProfitsoffofUnsafePornSaysAHF :
9:15pmPress Availability and PORN IN (Penthouse Suite #1427) Officials from AHF and Pink Cross Foundation will speak to the media while a porn in showing the Marriotts unsafe porn (films without condom use) will stream on the hotel room television in the background
So they showed actual porn films that the Marriott, as an active business w/in the porn industry, profiteers off?
Also from this linked news release: GO LIVE at 10 pm or 11 pm from CONDOM PROTEST in front of Marriott L.A. Downtown - Protesters will be carrying signs, banners and three foot wide condoms
i thought hotel porn was the version where they didn’t actually show genitals. what do I know.
It is beyond belief how far this nation has sunk in the last 20 years.
“Protesters will be carrying signs, banners and three foot wide condoms”
Hey, finally one big enough to fit over POtuS...
If these rump-rangers and carpet munchers parents would have used a condom, we wouldn’t have to put up with their crap.....
Eventually people have got to get sick of smut, don’t they?
When the full story is known, it will be said that Russia tried for several decades to destabilize the United States; that Russia supported and convinced many people to act in its interest without their knowledge; that Russia seeks — continues to seek — military advantage by sowing economic and social discord here.
I say we respond, in kind. Fifty-fold.
I figured they were boycotting because they didn’t offer gay porn, in addition to regular porn (and I’m not talking about just the chick-on-chick kind of porn)
Ditto.
...(and Im not talking about just the chick-on-chick kind of porn)...
Plenty of that around...
The Ventura Beach Marriott doesn’t offer any adult movies.
Apparently the owners (some are franchised, some are owned) are rather devout.
But they do offer HBO, so it isn’t all that bad.
I don’t bother with those movies anyway — after 10 or 15 seconds the titillation wears off and it is just boring and a bit sad.
It’s amazing isn’t it? These people aren’t upset about poornography as such, and they are not really upset about hotels showing it. They are upset that a hotel would show it without use of condoms.
So if the hotel showed this with the use of condoms, then everything would be ok.
Amazingly sad reasoning.......................
I agree. America’s slide into the sewer continues.
We are succeeding in keeping up with the rest of the world.
It is beyond belief how far this nation has sunk in the last 20 years.
Actually it has been better. You don’t need porn in your hotel room...just take the laptop. /sarc. I think the country is the same as twenty years ago. I think the worst time in America was the 50’s only because of the sneaky ways that husbands bashed their wives heads in...people were molesting children...alcoholism was hidden...drugs were hidden...etc. Nothing is good in putting your head in the sand.
Porn pimp:
Its a great privilege to be asked to rejoin the Marriott board and I look forward to serving once again in that capacity.
- Mitt Romney, January 2009

Well!
Isn't THAT special!!
For the first time, I agree with you on a Mormon issue. Mormon owned businesses should not offer porn in any form.
I do hope that the boycott extends to other major hotels that offer the same. It seems odd that they singled out Marriot...? They’re still ticked off by the huge success in defeating Prop. 8, I guess.
In what sense? That porn video is now available in hotels or that the porn shown in hotel feature 'unsafe' sex?
Does this mean that if I stay at that Marriott I will have to wear my socks in the shower?
I wonder, are these folks who belong or worse sit on the boards of these organization born laughing stocks, or do they work hard at becoming laughing stocks? Same question could apply for the current administration and congress.
Cool beans
I can stay at a Marriott property
and not have to see any fags.
What a great marketing strategy!
“Marriott - we’re queer free.”
I can’t resist. Meant for comedy only. No offense is meant. Here it goes. Any other reason your done with the movie in 15 seconds.
Not being familiar with porn other than I know I dont ever want to watch it...
I dont know what porn in a so called “respectable” hotel is suppose to be like.....
I dont stay in hotels that show porn...
They can tell the guy is naked ???
What filth...
What 50’s did you live in?
>>I cant resist. Meant for comedy only. No offense is meant. Here it goes. Any other reason your done with the movie in 15 seconds.

Man, did I walk into THAT one!
OTOH, my wife said “why do you last 50% longer with the movies??!”
LOL
In what sense? That porn video is now available in hotels or that the porn shown in hotel feature 'unsafe' sex? [Paudio]
I'd say in the following senses:
(1) That a porn prostitute and her allies -- all of whom want "condom-correctness" in the part of the porn industry they still endorse-- are more riled up over some aspects of the porn industry and its distributors (i.e. Marriott Hotel chain) than conservatives and conservative Republicans!!! [Have we seen many conservatives, FReepers, or conservative Republican boycott this part of the porn industry???]
(2) While the Lds Church-owned Deseret News took Mitt Romney to task a couple of years ago for his board member connection to porn-laden Marriott, note that the Mormon leaders in this way were hypocritical: IOW, while the "journalistic" side of the Lds church took a swing @ Mitt, how did the Lds church itself approach this issue? (Why, they promoted Marriott owner Bill Marriott within the church hierarchy of leaders -- assigning him to be an Area Seventy and a member of the Lds Church's Sixth Quorum of the Seventy -- among the top 70 leaders in the Church. This, despite the fact that the Marriott hotel chain has been in this porn biz for at least 20 years now!!!)
(3) I haven't seen FR Romney supporters or other conservative Romney supporters publicly critique Romney for being a long-standing (briefly interrupted) Marriott board member -- tying him to the porn industry.
Seems to me that the porn industry has become part of the Republican "Big Tent," the conservative coalition, and is more acceptable to many FReepers than it is to ex-porn prostitutes who still "high fives" much of the porn industry!

What's Latin for BRIEF?
Porn is OK but not using condoms isn’t.
Something is soooo wrong with this picture.
Maranatha, Jesus. Time to call it quits.
Yes and far more. Pick a subject; crime, morality, knowledge, manners, decency, truthfulness, etc. I can't think of anything better today than in 1964 or before. Beyond that I am more concerned by your question. Do you think the situation in this nation and the world is OK?
I grew up in the 50s and 60s. What you cited was considered abnormal. Even degenerate. And those activities were not anywhere as wide spread as your comment suggests. People today that argue things in the 50s and 60s were as they are today are the ones putting their heads in the sand. Perfect no, far better yes. No animosity intended.
Good Post.
