By MICHAEL BARBARO and DAVID W. CHEN Michael R. Bloomberg, the Wall Street mogul whose fortune catapulted him into New Yorks City Hall, has set another staggering financial record: He has now spent more of his own money than any other individual in United States history in the pursuit of public office.
Newly released campaign records show the mayor, as of Friday, had spent $85 million on his latest re-election campaign, and is on pace to spend between $110 million and $140 million before the election on Nov. 3.
That means Mr. Bloomberg, in his three bids for mayor, will have easily burned through more than $250 million the equivalent of what Warner Brothers spent on the latest Harry Potter movie.

It’s his money and he can spend it anyway he wants. It’s not like he asked for a bailout.
I remember in the wake of 9/11 the idea of Rudy running for a third term was floated and quickly shot down but when they get a Marxist in there, oh, no term limits are needed.
Another rich limo-lib Demwit who happens to have switched parties.
An ivory tower Marxist
Yea it cost $250,000,000 but it’s peanuts considering the power he now wields.
odumbo spent 750 million of other peoples money
Is he even facing serious opposition? $85 million?
Please stop by the FReepathon thread and give it a bump. If you haven’t donated yet, please give it some thought.
Thank you!
And the FEC still won't tell us how much of that was FOREIGN money. Reports are 12 months late, and still missing.
more amazing is what hes spent in what should be an easy win.
You finish the sentence./
...again...
I heard the government is taking over his opposition and making it solvent again to make the election fair.
The man is worth 9 BILLION DOLLARS. $250 Million is less than 3% of what he has. Bloomberg can in fact, lost 90% of his wealth and still remain a billionaire. Tough duck for those who want to run against him.
BTW, if the electorate needs a politician to spend millions of dollars simply to get to know what his policies are, that simply shows that there is a problem with the electorate.
I usually have my mind made regarding a candidate up a week after he declares his candidacy.
“Its not like he asked for a bailout.”
We’re currently running 9 years from joke to law. That puts self-financed dem politicians being reimbursed by the taxpayer at 2018.
“odumbo spent 750 million of other peoples money

Ahem....Obama’s ENTIRE LIFE HISTORY is still missing.
Thank you. That is why I called the situation pitiful.
I’m concerned that the same thing will also happen at the federal level.
“Isn’t it pitiful that one cannot get a message across unless one blasts the populus with TV commercials?”
Mrs. Palin is doing a d@mn good job of it. I haven’t seen one commercial touting her ‘message’ as it would be a waste of dollars. Anyone with half a brain and a good heart and common sense KNOWS Good from Evil...which is where idiot RINOs like Bloomberg get confused. ;)
Stand for nothing, fall for anything.
That you and I heard her and understood proves nothing. See whether she wins.
And, conversely, of those who won the races in the last 20 years, see whether anybody spend less than $50M.
"Anyone with half a brain and a good heart and common sense KNOWS Good from Evil..."
Well, commercials are run for those that don't. Have you noticed the results of the last presidential election?
Fine. You win. Long Live Bloomberg. *SNORT*
Oughtta put Bloomberg and Soros in a cage together and force them to fight to the death.
I did not think we were in a contest, Diana. No victories here.
Have a good one.
Sorry. You are out of date.
The gentleman is worth a cool $17.5 Billion as at the end of September. Probably worth more now with the rise of the stock market since the start of October..

Nope. His opposition is one William Thompson Jnr , the New York City Comptroller (a black guy). He has about as much chance of winning, as me winning the lottery for a $100 million Monday morning, which is zero.
The latest polls have Bloomberg ahead by a massive 16%.

As if Thompson didn't have enough troubles, he has had a pretty nasty public spat with his ex-wife(which the New York Post gleefully reported in all it's grisly details).
One of the screaming headlines from that fight:
“BILL JILTED ME - AND MARRIED WEDDING GUEST: EX
SYLVIA KINARD once vowed to love Bill Thompson for ever.
But while married to Thompson — who's now the city comptroller and presumptive Democratic mayoral nominee — she didn't expect him to suddenly say he wanted to date other women, let alone go on to marry one of their wedding guests.
And she certainly didn't think he'd later set her up in a bizarre “Three's Company” situation — making her live under the same roof with his first ex-wife for nearly a year — while he divorced Kinard.”

Poor guy.
He might as well give up, but of course he won't. He is going to lose and lose badly.
